Horror Movie Night

Join Matt, Scott and Kyle each week as they suffer through horror films both forgotten and beloved. The trio capture the excitement and the disappointment of renting movies in the 80’s and 90’s. For every surprising thrill like American Gothic the trio suffer through there's 10 disappointing flops like Terror Toons. The show combines the nostalgia of renting videos with a snarky comedic blend that will make you feel sentimental while simultaneously putting a smile on your face. So dust off your VCR, make some popcorn and check behind every door because it’s… Horror Movie Night.

Killer Crocodile (1989)

More killer animals this week, now with added radioactive waste! We’re heading to the tropics to investigate rumors of a KILLER CROCODILE (1989) and likely lose some limbs in the process. This Italian mess really shines when the ADR is off, the acting is over the top, and the croc animatronic is front and center (which is, thankfully, pretty often). The plot beats aren’t anything you haven’t seen before, but man, that croc looks awesome when it’s chowing down on people who didn’t take Matt’s advise to STAY OUT OF THE DAMN WATER. Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Demonwarp (1988)

Summertime calls for a trip out to the woods for some good old-fashioned Bigfoot hunting! You wouldn’t think a movie called DEMONWARP (1988) would be about killer sasquatch, and on a certain level you’re not wrong - calling this a Bigfoot movie is a simplification of the other absurd stuff that goes on here. There are also zombies and aliens, and yes it’s all supposed to connect. Is it a good movie? Absolutely not, but it does star George Kennedy. Take that as you will. Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Underworld (2003)

Fresh from our trip to the hot, dry outback, we return to the city where it always rains and find ourselves in the middle of a centuries-long war between vampires and werewolves. UNDERWORLD (2003) is the story of a hot lady vampire who hasn’t been happy in a long and the werewolf who also never smiles but somehow melts her icy heart without a single drop of on-screen chemistry. Tale as old as time! Who wouldn’t want to be the middle of a vampire/werewolf love sandwich? Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Razorback (1984)

Matt’s unquenchable need to see giant animals absolutely destroy unwitting humans has brought us to the lands of bloomin' onions and deer that hop on two legs (aka kangaroos). We’re deep in the ozploitation outback with RAZORBACK (1984), a nasty little film about a massive boar with a tendency to rip shanties and their occupants to pieces. Who’s to blame the boar, though? They say people taste like bacon. Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. The House on Sorority Row (1983)

This week Kyle gives us a real deep cut slasher film with 1983's The House on Sorority Row. This movie is more famous for it's name and the 2009 remake than any of it's plot line but it's full of crazy dialogue, a clown killer and really strange kills. Basically, it's perfect for our show! Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Silent Hill (2006)

Last week, we braved radioactive waste in Tromaville, only to find ourselves up against underground coal seam fires in SILENT HILL (2006). Now, none of us played the video game, so our enjoyment of this one is subjective, but if you look past the absurd runtime and some poorly-aging CGI, there’s a lot of fun to be had in a little pocket dimension town in West Virginia. And there’s a cult, what more could you ask for? Maybe not being stuck in Silent Hill forever, but that might not be an option once you find your way there… Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Class of Nuke Em High Part 2 Subhumanoid Meltdown (1991)

The end of the school year is closing in so we’re headed back to Tromaville High for another round of toxic tomfoolery with CLASS OF NUKE EM HIGH 2: SUBHUMANOID MELTDOWN (1991). An obvious favorite in the Kelly household, this excursion finds a himbo reporter falling in love with a science experiment and the entire school battling it out with a squirrel kaiju - seriously! You know we love Troma round these parts, and this week isn’t some sort of turnaround on that sentiment. Blade (1998)

We’ve been holding onto this one for a decade and finally decided to run a stake through the heart of our dreams of a new addition to the franchise, so it’s finally time to ice skate uphill with the baddest vampire hunter of all time, BLADE (1998)! Now, it might be the nostalgia talking, but this movie has aged like a fine, blood-red wine. Is it overly long? Yes! Is it a lot of martial arts fighting and gun violence? Also yes! Is the CGI kind of terrible? Ok we get it, it’s not winning any awards but dammit, it’s a fun ride. Get in the car, Traci Lords is taking us to the blood rave! Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Dolly Dearest (1991)

You’re not gonna believe this, but we’re talking killer dolls this week and it’s not a Matt pick. After years of will-they-won’t-they, we are finally discussing DOLLY DEAREST (1991), brought to us all by Kyle of all people. It’s got a possessed doll, it’s got an ancient curse, it’s got bad acting, it’s got Rip Torn as an archeologist - some might say it’s a perfect movie for this show. Why we took over a decade to tackle it is anyone’s guess, but here we are and we may not make it out of this toy factory alive… Help! Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. The Sect (1991)

Do you think we’ve watched enough Argento this spring? If you said no, then you’re in luck, because we have another dose of Italian weirdness with 1991’s THE SECT (aka THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER)! Co-written and produced by Dario Argento, this also taps another HMN favorite, Michele Saovi, as director - and as an added bonus, stars Kelly Curtis. If you knew that Jamie Lee had a sister who was also an actor, then you’re smarter than us. It’s a Satanic cult movie, you know we had a good time with this one. 976-Evil (1988)

It’s the late 80s and Robert frickin' Englund is coming out with his directorial debut, there’s definitely no way this movie can be boring, right? Well… may we point out the slog that is 976-EVIL (1988)? While there are some fun scenes to be had, the movie is kind of a bland retread of EVILSPEAK but with the computer swapped for a demonic phone service, and no badass sword. You do still get some fun quips with your evisceration though, so it’s not a total wash! Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Suspiria (1977)

It’s our 550th episode, time to class up this joint a little with a genre favorite - Dario Argento’s SUSPIRIA (1977)! Who doesn’t love a little giallo action about ballerinas and witches, with a side of maggots and some barbed wire tumbling? The plot may be inscrutable at times, but what it lacks in logic it more than makes up for in style. Crimson Peak (2015)

Based on its title, it may be inferred that CRIMSON PEAK (2015) is about vampires - the logic is sound, if somewhat flawed. This was Kyle’s logic when he chose it for us to discuss, as he had never seen it before, so he was quite perplexed when the bloodsucking never happened and ghosts are floating around instead. Can you imagine how sick this movie would be if it WAS about vampires, though? Join our Patreon Buy Some Merch Join our Facebook Group Follow us on Instagram Check our Letterboxd Learn more about your ad choices. Scream 4 (2011)

Nailing the coffin shut on Franchise February, we make our way back to a beloved series to see how it’s aged. The answer? Better than most of Sidney Prescott’s friends and family but honestly, that’s not too hard because most of them end up skewered.
