Taylor's Year

Taylor Swift is ending her year with another accolade: The pop superstar was named Time magazine’s 2023 “Person of the Year,” beating out Barbie and King Charles III. “While her popularity has grown across the decades, this is the year that Swift, 33, achieved a kind of nuclear fusion: shooting art and commerce together to release an energy of historic force,” the magazine said. Rihanna and Drake’s sultry “What’s My Name?” music video has officially reached one billion YouTube views, 13 years since its release in 2010. In the clip, the rumored ex-couple gets cozy in a convenience store, before cuddling up in a New York apartment, drinking wine, holding hands and even having a little pillow fight. RiRi and Drake’s collaboration topped the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart upon its 2010 release, and also hit No. 1 on Digital Songs. Over the years, the two R&B powerhouses have collaborated a number of times on songs like 2016’s “Too Good,” 2016’s “Work” and 2011’s “Take Care.” Rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyme that comes at the end of each verse or line in poetry. In other words, it is the structure of end words of a verse or line that a poet needs to create when writing a poem. Many poems are written in free verse style. Some other poems follow non-rhyming structures, paying attention only to the number of syllables. The Japanese genre of Haiku is a case in point. Thus, it shows that the poets write poems in a specific type of rhyme scheme or rhyming pattern. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/derrick-smith017/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/derrick-smith017/support

Artist Spotlight Immortal Tehnique

Felipe Andres Coronel (born February 19, 1978), better known by the stage name Immortal Technique, is an American rapper. Most of his lyrics focus on controversial issues in global politics, from a radical left-wing perspective. Immortal Technique seeks to retain control over his production,[1] and has stated in his music that record companies, not artists themselves, profit the most from mass production and marketing of music. He claimed in an interview to have sold close to a combined total of 200,000 copies of his first three official releases. Processing what happened to Take-off (RIP)

Takeoff has reportedly been killed in a shooting in Houston, Texas. According to TMZ, the Migos rapper (real name Kirshnik Khari Ball) was gunned down at 810 Billiards and Bowling in downtown Houston in the early hours of Tuesday (November 1). He was 28 years old. Takeoff and Quavo were partaking in a dice game when an altercation broke out and shots were fired, striking Takeoff “either in the head or near to his head.” Despite initial rumors suggesting he was also shot, Quavo was not injured. On Friday (November 4), multiple videos of an intimate candle-lighting ceremony began circulating online. In the short clip, the deceased Migos rapper’s loved ones congregate around each other as they chant TakeOff’s name and release a set of balloons spelling out his stage name high into the sky. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner was determined to defend the Hip Hop community following his death. While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Finner addressed Hip Hop getting a bad reputation and revealed he wants to meet with local rappers to discuss gun violence in the city. He also paid tribute to Takeoff, explaining how everyone had good things to say about the late Migos rapper as a person and musician. Artist Spotlight Jam Master Jay

Jason William Mizell (January 21, 1965 – October 30, 2002), better known by his stage name Jam Master Jay, was an American musician and DJ. He was the DJ of the influential hip hop group Run-DMC. During the 1980s, Run-DMC became one of the biggest hip hop groups and are credited with breaking hip hop into mainstream music Jason Mizell was born in Brooklyn, New York City,[3] the son of Jesse Mizell and Connie Thompson Mizell[4] (later Connie Mizell-Perry)[5] whose other children are Marvin L. Thompson and Bonita Jones.[4]  At age three, Jason began playing trumpet. He learned to play bass, guitar, and drums. He performed at his church and in various bands prior to discovering turntablism.[4] After he and his family moved to Hollis, Queens, New York City, in 1975 at the age of 10, he discovered the turntables and started DJing at the age of 13.[3][4] He was high school friends with Wendell "DJ Hurricane" Fite, known for his 13-year collaboration with The Beastie Boys.[6]  As a teenager, Mizell was involved with a group that committed residential burglaries.[6] An encounter with an armed security guard frightened him into stopping the burglaries, and as an adult he was known for discouraging criminal activities among his friends and family.[6]  For a time, he lived in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where turntablism pioneer DJ Def Lou Hauck [3][7] taught him to crossfade.[3][7] He caught on quickly because of his musical experience and after a year of DJing he felt that he was good enough to play in front of people.[3][7] Originally calling himself Jazzy Jase, he attended high school at Andrew Jackson High School in New York City's Queens.[4] Video was made possible with #Movavi Video Editor   For Prices and services contact me through E-mail or social media by clicking the links below http://www.unlimitedv3rses.com https://www.instagram.com/unlimited_v3rses https://www.facebook.com/unlimitedv3rses Grow your channel with tubebuddy click the link below and get a discount https://www.tubebuddy.com/ulv3 Control your own music through distrokid, click link  below and get a SPECIAL 7% DISCOUNT https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/1598589 https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/3304346 Independent Artist Podcast https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017 https://youtube.com/@unlimitedv3rses https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/unlimitedv3rses1/cant-stop-my-grind https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/unlimitedv3rses1/among-the-stars https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/unlimtedv3rses1/broken-ceilings --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017/support

Structure of a Song

The structure of a song refers to the way a songwriter arranges their composition. They use a combination of different sections, varying them depending on what works best. A typical commercial song usually has a duration of 3–4 minutes, and the different sections fill up this space. Intro This is the first part of any song, and it sets the listener’s expectations by establishing important elements like the tempo, key, rhythm, and even the “feel” of the song. Usually, the intro is made up of the same chord pattern as the chorus or verse, but without any lyrics sung over it. Verse The verse is what establishes the theme of the song, or tells the story. A song usually has at least two verses; Pre-chorus Not all songs have a pre-chorus, but for those that do, this part serves as the build-up towards the actual chorus Chorus The chorus is usually the most “singable” and memorable part of a song, hence the name “chorus,” Bridge The bridge is the part of the song that helps break the monotony and repetition of the verse and chorus. Outro The outro is the end of the song, and it signals to your listeners that the song is coming to its end. 4 songwriting tips

The 75/25 chorus rule dictates that roughly 75% of your songs should BEGIN with the chorus. When we say begin, we mean that the chorus should be the first vocals that the listener hears. There are three main reasons this is a crucial songwriting tip for rappers who want to make catchy songs: 2-For-1 Melodies refers to the idea that you should practice having two separate melodies in one section of the song, as opposed to having one melodic phrase be the entire section (such as the chorus) of the track. Most amateur rappers think that a “catchy chorus” simply means one melody repeated 4x-8x over and over again until the hook is done. That’s a 1-for-1 melody and while it works, it’s often not as catchy of the 2 melodies in 1 chorus method. Now that you’ve seen you can both start the song with a catchy part to keep your streams up AND you can stack more melodies than you even thought possible… Don’t be afraid to go for “extra credit” by adding even a THIRD melody to start the track to serve as a vocal “intro” that can also serve as a “bridge”. To go back to 50 Cent as an example because this is the easiest way to understand what a “vocal intro” is… take a second and think of how his biggest hit “In Da Club” starts. Now, so far we’ve given you a lot of songwriting tips for rappers that have to do with how you create a songwriting structure that appeals to a broader audience… …But what about how you actual organize your songwriting session to make the most effective use of your time? Again as we said at the beginning, we’ve been coaching 100,000s of rappers on this channel for years now and we’ve got to say… One of the biggest issues amateur rappers face is that they never have a system for sitting down and completing a song from start to finish that they can repeat over and over. Therefore, we have devised this songwriting tip for rappers as a reminder that it’s much better to get into the habit of writing a song from start to finish in one sitting rather than stopping-and-starting to writing sessions. Your goal as a rapper should be able to down to a stopwatch’s tick know how long it takes you to write a track. Hip hop news and headlines 10-3-2022

Lil Baby has finally turned in his upcoming album It’s Only Me to his label, and he’s shared some crucial details about what fans can expect. On Monday (October 3), the 4PF boss took to his Twitter to announce his album had been submitted while letting fans know it will have 23 tracks along with a total of seven guest features. According to Baby, he doesn’t plan on unleashing a deluxe version this time, either, bucking a trend that has become commonplace among many artists in the streaming era. “Finally Turned My Album In,” Lil Baby wrote. “23 songs 7 Features No Deluxe.” Kanye West surprised fans by presenting the YZY Season 9 experience in the 8th arrondissement of Paris this week. Taking place on Monday evening (October 3) in front of about 50 guests, Kanye got his Steve Jobs on and made a speech prior to the start of the event in which he addressed how fashion has been “classist” and targeted his former manager Scooter Braun for forcing him to continue touring after Kim Kardashian’s 2016 Paris robbery. “I just wanted to go to Japan — I just needed a break. And he said, ‘No, you need to go make more money. So we need to do a second leg of the tour.’ And that tour lasted four days and I went to the hospital,” Ye recalled. Hip Hop News and headlines (9-19-2022)

LOS ANGELES, CA – Tee Grizzley is speaking out following reports of his Los Angeles mansion being robbed of over $1 million worth of jewelry and cash. The Detroit native took to Instagram over the weekend and instead of complaining about his situation, he chose to spotlight a few things weighing heavy on his heart, including the tragic loss of his close friend PnB Rock. “I appreciate everyone reaching out and checking on me and shit,” he began. “I’m good and my family good, thank God! I just need y’all to do one thing for me though, man, send a prayer up for PnB Rock and his kids, King Von and his kids, and all the kids that gotta grow out here without their pops. And I had to grow up without my pops because he was killed and that shit ain’t easy at all.” PnB Rock‘s body should be heading back to his hometown of Philadelphia, but according to his brother PnB Meen, Los Angeles officials have made it difficult to recover it. PnB Rock’s brother took to Instagram a few days after the rapper was shot and killed in Los Angeles and claimed getting his brother returned to his Philadelphia hometown had been a strenuous process. “We been having trouble getting my brother back to Philadelphia,” PnB Meen wrote on Instagram. “The state of Los Angeles claiming they have some type of law, going against our as Muslims. Now I have no clue when his Janazah. It’s not right, yo. It’s goin on a week. Prayers up. I got you bro an ya daughters.” Joe Budden is the latest person to get hit by Ice Spice’s “Munch (Feelin’ U)” punch after the New Jersey native recited the infectious chorus with a bit of flair during an episode of his podcast. Footage of Budden’s impromptu karaoke session surfaced online, and it was nothing short of comical for fans who felt the former rapper added a little too much spice to his performance. “‘Oh, you thought I was feeling you? That n-gga’s a munch. N-gga a eater, he ate it for lunch,” Joe Budden said with a huge smile slapped across his face as his cohosts laughed at him. Budden’s cohort Ish replied with more laughter: “You said that a little too spicy, my n-gga.” The “Pump It Up” rapper seemed confused over why he was being ridiculed as he explained: “I like that song, and I like her. That song is better than alright. ‘Oh, you thought I was feeling you?'” Video was made possible with #MovaviVideoEditor  For Prices and services contact me through E-mail or social media by clicking the links below http://www.unlimitedv3rses.com https://www.instagram.com/unlimited_v3rses https://www.facebook.com/unlimitedv3rses Grow your channel with tubebuddy click the link below and get a discount https://www.tubebuddy.com/ulv3 Control your own music through distrokid, click link  below and get a SPECIAL 7% DISCOUNT https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/1598589 https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/3304346 Independent Artist Podcast https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017/support

Contracts and Music Deals

A music industry contract is nothing less than the Holy Grail for musicians. However, its complexity keeps the musicians in dark and they decide to keep themselves away from even the basics of contracts and agreements. Unfortunately, this ignorance of theirs leads them to the world of chaos. In order to help you understand and navigate the music industry, we have collected little details that you must go through before getting a contract. To begin with, you need to understand the different types of contracts.1. Project/band contract The kind of contract you should enter depends on the type of work you want to do. For instance, if you are not a soloist, you should go for brand contracts. Some of the terms you might need to be aware of would-be Distribution of income, band name rights, distribution of jobs, and withdrawal of band members, insurance, fatality, and possession of instruments. 2. Contract with publishers and collection societies This contract is especially for lyricist and composers. All you should do is get in contact with the local collection society under the contract of Assignment. GEMA, SUISA etc. takes the custody of the song, collects the payments and keeps merely 10% of the price. Eventually, you get quite a fair percentage of the profit. 3. Transfer of rights to musicians If you are to hire musicians from outside, better get into a contract that authorizes the “transfer of rights”. The main idea behind this contract is to get to use the performances just the way you want. It also helps in regulating the profit sharing and fees. 4. Record deal A classic record deal is your thing if a label is interested in your work. The great part of this deal is the label will take care of everything starting from the manufacturing to the marketing of the label. Some of the major parts covered by the record deal are Volume, Exclusivity, Format, Production, Sub-license rights, Sync and Merchandising rights. 5. Distribution contracts Distribution contracts are between distributors and record labels. With this “Distribution Contract,” you are not bound to transfer all or any right to the recording; instead, you give a particular right to the partner shop of the distributor. 6. Producer and remix contract The producer and remix contract are made directly between the major labels and the producer. The responsibility of the royalties and their affiliated compensation are bound by this contract. Further, if you are making external remixes, it includes one-off payment for the commission plus transfer of rights, royalty shares, and adaption rights. 7. Administration Contract The administration contract gives an exclusive right to the publisher to administer the composition for a specific period of time. This includes collecting royalty for DVDs, and the song used in TVs, and commercials. Almost 25% of the earning goes to the publisher under the administration act. So, these are the types of agreement that you one day would be getting into. Using these contracts, you can be sure of controlling all the three variables of an exclusive music contract. Those three music variables would be The Property, Extent, and Money. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derrick-smith017/support
