IndieFaith Podcast is back and we have a lot of stories to cover! We were hoping to be back in the studio but the lockdown in NSW kept getting extended, so we decided to just suck it up and start doing our episodes remotely. To cover all the major stories last month, we made Stories of the Month as our Main Topic. As their were heaps to cover, our episode was over 2 hrs long!! So we decided to split the episode into 2 parts. In this part we celebrate our 1 year anniversary with reflections - what were our highlights? what did we learn? etc. Then we got into the topic that most New Zealanders were talking about... Probably the most controversial topic of all - Money. Jules & Mary discuss another common struggle we face as Pacific Islanders and that is juggling our culture with money. - Should we have to pay for being born? - Is it okay to ONLY give what we can? - Is it okay to go into debt because we have to support our family's cultural obligations? i.e. fa'alavelave's - Is it okay for early retirement for our parents? - Is it okay for children to be the source of income for our parents? - Are the demands of money, setting our children up for failure? There are high depression and suicide rates with our Pasefika youth. Is money the cause of it? So many questions, but it is forbidden to ask these aloud. Whether everyone agrees or disagrees, Jules & Mary are breaking that cycle and normalising these conversations. Let's open our hearts and our minds to at least talk about these issues in the hopes that all generations can come to understanding. HAPPY PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH!! In celebration of Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Jules and Mary honour the cultural etiquettes and mannerisms that they've learnt and how it's contributed to who they are and what they do.

For many Pacific Islanders, sex is a topic that is culturally and religiously taboo. Our beliefs and the awareness of the space/vā between sexes make approaching this topic even more uncomfortable. In this episode Mary and Jules create a space to have an open-minded discussion around sex. Talking about their experiences, as well as their concerns on how we as a community have become too complacent in our ignorance of this topic that there are less resources, support and knowledge for our youth, especially regarding teenage pregnancies.
