ANTHONY NIX is an country artist crafting songs without compromise
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
Anthony Nix is not a country musician. He's a country artist. He works his craft and shares his heart through the majority of his songs. He works hard to deliver original and honest performances both in the studio and on stage. He's diligent at what he does because he knows it doesn't just mean something to him, but to his fans. He's uncompromising about laying out who he is as a musician and as a person. Although he spends time in and around Nashville, he's proud to be rooted in the Wisconsin music scene and it's evident in original songs like "Around Here." Anthony's original music has two foundations—country and honesty—and it makes for one heck of a listen. Find out why on this episode of Into The Music!

MILES NIELSEN reflects on three decades in music and how he is still growing as a musician
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
To say Miles Nielsen has seen and experienced a lot over his three decade career in music would be an understatement. Let's cut to the chase... when your dad is Rick Nielsen, guitarist for Cheap Trick, you get inspired to follow in his footsteps but you do it your way. Miles has done just that. Over his three decade career he not only has grown as a music maker, but as a devoted husband, father, and friend. He's gone through the heartache of losing one of his closest friends and musical partners to cancer. He's played the roles of a support player and leader in bands that garnered national attention. Yet he remains grounded knowing he's fortunate to be making music with people he loves. Listen to Miles's story, his music, and even a little nugget that bridges generations.

MATHEW HAEFFEL is a songsmith with a unique musical signature
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
There are singer-songwriters and then there is Mathew Haeffel. It is truly hard to pin the singer-songwriter label on him because his original compositions go well beyond what you'd expect from an artist in that genre. Mathew is a songsmith who creates music in a way that a visual artist might create a striking painting. He specializes in juxtaposition, combining dark and light elements that contrast each other whether that be in his lyrics, instrumentation, or both. Often you will hear him sing pensive words over a lively beat, but listeners are often left with a bit of encouragement because of the way Mathew is able to bring the light out of the dark in his songs. A truly unique artist that is worth discovering.

ELYSIAN STEW creates captivating finger style acoustic soundscapes
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
Patrick Zyduck, also known as Elysian Stew, is a finger style guitarist who writes in the moment. The bulk of his originals are instrumentals that paint soundscapes that draw in and envelop the listener with rich acoustic textures and moods. His inspirations for writing range from a rain storm to owls to backpacking on Mount Rainier. On top of that, he is an avid cyclist and knows firsthand how physical activity and musicianship work with each other to improve one's playing. His style draws on past guitarists like Merle Travis and Chet Atkins as influences, but also acknowledges current artists like Kaki King, Mike Dawes, and Gwenifer Raymond. It's time to get lost in the soundscapes of Elysian Stew!

THE MASCOT THEORY is back to take you on a journey with their best album yet
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
To say that The Mascot Theory created their new album, Cosmic Hit and Run, under pressure would be an understatement. They set out to create a concept album about helplessness, loss, grief, healing, and hope and in the process they lived it all. The finished product is nothing short of brilliant. Although each song can stand on its own, within the narrative of Cosmic Hit and Run they make for an incredible listen from beginning to end both musically and lyrically. Taking what they learned from working with producer Terry Manning and building on that, they have released what could be their—dare I say it?—masterpiece. Cosmic Hit and Run isn't just an album, it's a journey—one that you'll want to repeat often.
This episode features an Into The Music first! Part of this show is an on stage interview with the band recorded at the Cosmic Hit and Run release gig in front of a live audience at Gibson Community Music Hall in Appleton, WI on October 3, 2025.

TIM CASE: A singer-songwriter with a uniquely Wisconsin take on folk and Americana music
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
It's pretty clear when you listen to Tim Case's music that his Wisconsin roots go deep into his soul. Many of his songs have at least references to people or places around the state, but they serve as devices to tell a narrative rather than promote Wisconsin outright. It's just what he knows through his life experiences and observations, so he weaves these elements into his thoughtful lyrics. His 2025 release, Hall of Mirrors, is an album that is influenced by artists like Bob Dylan and John Prine with a sound not unlike albums produced by Daniel Lanois. Call it atmospheric Americana if you like. Tim is creating some beautiful music and using it to give a down-to-earth observations of life.

KOSTIA is a treasured musician, composer, and human being
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
Kostia is, in a word, special. He's not only a prolific composer and pianist, but one of the most genuine human beings you could ever know. Born and raised in St. Petersburg in the former USSR, Kostia made his way to the United States in 1989 and within a week of arriving he had his first recording deal with Narada Records. Over the years he has been active in the Milwaukee music scene accompanying vocalist Carmen Nickerson and playing keyboards for guitarist Daryl Stuermer (Genesis, Phil Collins). He is a Grammy nominated artist whose compositions are easy to get wrapped up in and a gentleman in every sense of the word. His heart comes out in all the music he brings into being and that is what makes Kostia special.

THE TUNES are one of the hottest bands going in the NE Wisconsin scene
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
The Tunes came on the scene only two years ago in 2023. From the start, this band was put together to be something bigger than the sum of its parts. Woodie Larsen (guitar), Jon Wheelock (vocals, bass), and Adam Hatton (drums) are the nucleus of The Tunes and when playing live they include players like Joe Sly (keys), Tyler VanderHeiden (bass), Malakai Flynn (guitar), and Jordan Miles (keys, bass). This band has a lot of fun doing what they do and the proof is in their music. Combining elements of 1960s soul, funk, classic rock, and a healthy dose of the 90s, The Tunes' sound is unique and riveting and leaves audiences wanting more. Check out The Tunes on this episode and when the music plays, crank it!

THE TOURMALINERS & KELA SAKO are teaming up for a special retro-styled release
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
Into The Music listeners are by now well acquainted with San Diego's award winning surf band, The Tourmaliners. Guitarist Deven Berryhill returns to the podcast to talk about a special retro-styled single they've recorded with vocalist Kela Sako. When we say retro-styled, we're not kidding! Two songs—Rosie and the Originals' "Angel Baby" from 1960 and Kyu Sakamoto's "Sukiyaki" from 1961—, 7-inch vinyl, 45 RPM. Want more retro? The 1955 Fender Telecaster used on the original "Angel Baby" is on this new version. More? How about an homage to those great AM radio DJs who spun these 45s? It's all here with the charm, warmth, and character of those great classic singles. And we have the world premiere of "Angel Baby" right here!
"Angel Baby" performed by The Tourmaliners with Kela Sako
written by Rosie Hamlin & David Ponci, arr. by Deven Berryhill
This version ℗ 2025 Pacific Records. Used with permission of Deven Berryhill
"Sukiyaki" performed by The Tourmaliners with Kela Sako
written by Hachidai Nakamura (music) & Rokusuke Ei (lyrics), arr. by Deven Berryhill

THE SWONGOS are taking surf music into other dimensions
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
The Swongos (Thomas Mangelsen - guitar, Lisa Mangelsen - bass, Brian Liggett - drums) are a surf band from NW Wisconsin (what?!) with a twist. Make that many twists. The foundation of their music is surf, but from there they add layers of exotica, spy, psychedelic rock, metal, alternative, and even jazz (thanks to vibes player Thomas Mattioli) for sonic creations that can be described best by just looking at their album cover art. The colors, textures, and shades that inhabit their original instrumentals is unique and will have you becoming the titular Curious Tourist from their first release. Get ready for something refreshingly different—it's The Swongos!
"Swampie Invasion," "Drunk On A Carousel," and "Wanderoo" written and performed by The Swongos
℗ 2022 The Swongos. Used with permission of The Swongos
"Mr. Pole's Revenge" and "Shayla Shadows" written and performed by The Swongos
℗ 2022 The Swongos. Used with permission of The Swongos

JACE K. SEAVERS of MEET THE SEAVERS on not fitting in and liking it that way
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
Meet The Seavers is perhaps the most unique musical act in NE Wisconsin and the bio on their website states They don't fit in and they like it that way. Their music has been dubbed "New Avant Garde Swing" and when you give it a listen you understand almost immediately why. However, that description doesn't mean it isn't accessible to the general listening public. Jace K. and Dorothy G. Seavers have crafted an act that's equal parts jazz, swing, Vaudeville, rockabilly, spacey, and humor. They're set apart by just about every aspect that makes them Meet The Seavers and it's a refreshing change of pace for those that have discovered them. Do yourself a favor and discover them too!

STEVE MARCH-TORMÉ and MICHAEL MURPHY introduce "Dalton Diamond"
Episode in
INTO THE MUSIC
Text us about this show.
Steve March-Tormé and Michael Murphy return to Into The Music to introduce you to the title character of their new album, Dalton Diamond. This is an album just over four decades in the making having originated in a West Los Angeles bedroom as the idea of Steve along with his friend, Craig Copeland. In the mid 1980s, nine of the album's were written by Steve and Craig and two additional songs that round out the narrative were written forty years later by Steve and Michael. The feel of the album harkens back to the 1970s southern California country rock of the Eagles, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, and The Flying Burrito Brothers to name a handful of Dalton's influences. This episode serves as a preview of the album and Steve and Michael throw in a live performance for good measure. Enjoy!

Pop y Muerte
STAY WEIRD. Updated
