Ep.226 | Lowry the Offaly Jesus caps off fortnight of a lifetime for Irish golf
Episode in
Irish Golfer Podcast
On this week's edition of the podcast Peter and Ronan sit down to take stock on what a glorious fortnight for Irish golf it has been and for the county of Clare after Lahinch and Doonbeg were the stage for two famous days.
Shane Lowry rewrote the narrative of his season with a clinical thumping display of front running as he pummelled the field into submission to win his second Irish Open and his first victory since 2022. Just south in The Netherlands, Leona Maguire also changed the fortunes of her year as she played a key role in helping Europe win back the Solheim Cup with a thrilling win over the USA. The touch paper was lit though by one of sport's greatest comebacks as GB&I downed the USA in Lahinch for their first triumph since 2015.

Ep.224 | Walker Cup team reaction & Women's Irish Open on horizon
Episode in
Irish Golfer Podcast
On this week's edition of the podcast Peter and Ronan chat about what appears on the face of it to be an underwhelming Walker Cup after only Stuart Grehan was part of Dean Robertson's ten man GB&I team to face the USA in two weeks. Thomas Higgins and David Howard are both first and second reserves but should Robertson have added one more Irishman to the team?
The KPMG Women's Irish Open is also just around the corner and there are a handful of Irish players showing some good signs as we look for a first ever Irish winner of the event at the K Club South Course. You can get your tickets HERE.

Irish Golfer Podcast

The lads would like to see some aligned thinking between Golf Ireland and the PGA in Ireland where our aspiring professionals get some tournament exposure at home instead of being thrown into the deep end on the mini tours abroad.
We also wax lyrical about Beth Coulter's one and hopefully back to back wins on the LET Access Tour while they give full backing to Leona Maguire's Solheim Cup wildcard selection for next month's contest as she makes her fourth appearance against the USA.

Ep.222 | South of Ireland Recap & Positives for Maguire & Power + Jackson Koivun masterclass
Episode in
Irish Golfer Podcast
On this week's edition of the podcast Peter sits down with Ronan who is fresh off a week in Lahinch for the South of Ireland Championship where a week that started with glorious sunshine turned sour with squally showers and an all Welsh final proving an anticlimax. Meanwhile, GB&I Walker Cup captain Dean Robertson is none the wiser as to which Irish players, if any, he will add to his ten-man squad to face USA in Lahinch this September.
On Tour, Leona Maguire and Seamus Power both boosted their seasons with top-10 finishes with Maguire bouncing into the AIG Women's Open on a golf course that should suit her while Power's hopes of earning a full PGA Tour card for next year are looking more promising. We also witnessed a new star arriving as Jackson Koivun put on a clinic to win the 3M Open on the PGA Tour.

Ep.220 | Irish hopes alive at Open + Bryson penalty
Episode in
Irish Golfer Podcast
On a day where the major championship scoring record was equalled twice, day two of the Open Championship was all about Bryson DeChambeau who was assessed a two shot penalty for inadvertently improving his lie on the fifth. That caused a debacle not seen for many a year and it remains to be seen whether the American will tee it up tomorrow.
This was all happening as David Howard narrowly missed out on making the cut and winning the silver medal as Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy remained on the fringes of contention heading into the weekend.

While Hoylake was gripping, Shinnecock Hills simmered but never got to the boil as Wyndham Clark held off Sam Burns, Scottie Scheffler and co to win his second US Open title.

Ep.213 | Masters memories, LIV future & Heritage recap
Episode in
Irish Golfer Podcast
There was a lot to pack in after two weeks which saw Ronan take in his first Masters and deliver an Irish winner in Rory McIlroy. There was no sense of a lull after the first major of the year as the golf news space was rife with rumours of LIV Golf's demise.
Peter and Ronan dive into Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and where LIV Golf goes from here after bizarre reports that PIF was going to pull funding for the Saudi-backed Tour.

Ep. 210 | Tiger Woods reaction + West of Ireland Preview
Episode in
Irish Golfer Podcast
On this week's edition of the podcast, Peter and Ronan react to the good news and the bad news in America. Gary Woodland produced the comeback story of the season with his sensational and inspirational win at the Texas Children's Houston Open for his first win since 2019 and his first win since coming back to the PGA Tour after brain surgery. Unfortunately, his exploits were overshadowed by the antics of Tiger Woods who is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons after being charged with another DUI offence in Florida.
Meanwhile, the clocks have sprung forward in Ireland meaning it is championship season. First up is the West of Ireland and we have a full preview in the second half of the podcast.
