Season Two Episode One – Welcome back to the IrishGameDev podcast and we’re starting this season with someone I love talking with and hearing what he’s up to, Colm Larkin from Gambrinous. In this episode he talks about forming a company, releasing a game, being a first time father, and the landscape of the Irish game development community.

This week it’s the Dare to be Digital Special and I talk with James Sadlier (@SpoonTheGreater) and Alan Boyce (@GetMeBoo) from NeverMind Games (@NevermindGames). The talk about their application to Dare, the trip over to Abertay Dundee, meeting the other teams, how fast the time flies and how they used the knowledge they learnt during the time to start their own studio, NeverMind Games. We also get slightly off topic about how there are lots of programming students in Ireland today applying for jobs but not a lot of animators and artists. In this episode I chat with Diarmuid Murphy from Microsoft about developing and publishing for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and varying size devices, including 88″ touch screens. We also chat about Gaming Reimagined & GIG 2013 at the Aviva on 28th February with talks from the likes of Andrew Spooner. Also possibly an awesome Atari arcade setup. Diarmuid will travelling around Ireland talking to folks about Windows 8 development in Sligo, Galway, Cork, Belfast and Dublin later this month and in March.
