Starmer Clinging On and "Project Snowflake" at Church of England General Synod

Church of England vicars with a difference Jamie Franklin and Daniel French talk about the big stories in Church and State. This time: Keir Starmer is clinging to power as folly of Epstein-linked Mandelson decision (and many other decisions) is being made increasingly apparent. It's the Church of England's General Synod and the new Archbishop Sarah Mullally promises to support the local and deprioritise central initiatives. But will she follow through on this promise and why is she still supporting £100 million slavery reparations initiative Project Spire? Project Spire itself takes a battering in question and answer session at Synod and should be renamed "Project Snowflake" as those working on the scheme are said to need special support because they can't handle questions and criticism. And the Living in Love and Faith gay relationships project is officially cancelled after years of fruitless toil...and then restarted again with a new "working group" to look at the same issues. We answer some questions on talking Bibles and the link between Lockdown and the Quiet Revival, plus a few other things as always. All that and much more as always. Please enjoy! "Is this really the best use of our money?" - Church of England finds even more cash for anti-racist diversity

Church of England revs with a difference, Jamie Franklin and Thomas Pelham sit down to talk about the biggest news in Church and state. This time:  The Prince of Darkness, Peter Mandelson, is in the news with further revelations of the leaking of confidential files to Jeffrey Epstein during Mandelson's time in government. It's a toss up for Plank of the Week between Zack Polanski - who wants to reform NATO whilst leaving it and creating something new - and Leo Varadkar - who wants to return Ireland to its traditional feminist pagan roots by merging the feasts of St Brigid and Imbolc. (No, this is not a joke.) Meanwhile, in the Church of England, the Diocese of London have somehow found the best part of a million pounds to start a new antiracist diversity drive whilst Sarah Mullally is confirmed as Archbishop of Canterbury. Mullally has also thrown her weight behind the controversial £100 million slavery reparations scheme, Project Spire, claiming that it is congruent with the Church's true mission. We review these claims plus commentary on the best way forward for Mullally regarding the vexed question of human sexuality. All that and much more as always. Please enjoy! Will AI Take Over Christianity?

Church of England Revs with a difference Daniel French and Jamie Franklin sit down to talk about the big stories in church and state. This time: WEF stooge Yuval Noah Harari says that AI will overtake religion because it is better at putting words in order. Also at Davos this year, the WEF advance plans to control global water supply. In Church of England News, a diocesan consistory court orders parish church to rip out gas boiler to adhere to Net Zero policy AND the General Synod is to debate the banning of flowers and floral foam containing microplastics in parish churches. Good to see they've got their priorities right! All that and much more as always. Enjoy! You make this podcast possible. The X-odus: Church of England Comms Abandon Social Media Giant

Church of England revs with a difference Daniel French and Jamie Franklin sit down to talk about the biggest events in church and state. This time: Church of England communications teams are leaving X en masse: but is this principled resistance or performative politicking? BBC News presenter hisses when hearing young rapper refer to Jesus Christ as his hero. Will Reform be a fascist government? Labour MP Lisa Nandy certainly thinks so. And Trump, the new global order, and the significance of the international realignment of nations. All that, reflections on the Scriptures, a question on Bible translations, and much more as ever. Revs with a difference Jamie Franklin and Tom Pelham sit down to talk about the biggest events in church and state. This time: Controversy around incoming Archbish Sarah Mullaly: did she follow up safeguarding dossier sufficiently before London priest committed suicide? The Church of England says Christmas is not cancelled in new promotional video. But who was saying it was? Tommy Robinson carol service in London. We bring you eyewitness reports from progressives who actually went along to see for themselves what it was like. Reform open “Christians for Reform” group with service at London church. "Tommy Robinson is NOT racist" with 'Green' Climate Sceptic, Brexit Rev Sam Norton

Church of England rev with a difference Jamie Franklin sits down with equally out-of-step cleric Sam Norton. Rev Sam is a "green" climate sceptic, a former Brexit MP candidate and advocate for what he calls "civic nationalism". In this special interview we cover the following topics: Sam's early work for the Department of Environment and how he became a "Green" Sceptic. Peak Oil and Limits to Growth. Left-Hemisphere Capture and how to break out of it. The interplay between politics and religion. Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) and why the IPCC's approach is fundamentally flawed. Sam's involvement in the Brexit Party. "Civic Nationalism" and the difference between Steve Laws and Tommy Robinson. CofE Bishops Bosh Tommy Robinson's Christmas Carol Bash

Church of England revs with a difference Thomas Pelham and Jamie Franklin get together to talk about the biggest and most interesting issues in church and state. This time: CofE bishops bash Christian Nationalism AGAIN and start a counter-campaign against Tommy Robinson’s Christian carol service. Pope Leo says people who think Islam is a threat to Christianity are really anti-immigration and want to keep other people out. And Chris Whitty appears to have suppressed an ethics advisory group that was giving him advice he didn’t like at the time of the Covid lockdowns and vaccination programme. Quelle Surprise! The Wednesday Edition - Lessons for the Postcolonial West with Dr. Alexander Chula

Church of England rev with a difference Jamie Franklin sits down with author, classicist and medical doctor Alexander Chula to talk about his most recent book Goodbye, Dr Banda: Lessons for the West from a Small African Country. In the book and conversation, Chula argues that the legacy of colonialism in countries like Malawi, although flawed in some respects, was overwhelmingly positive and including the eradication of various types of indigenous and Arab slave trading.  The conversation also touches on the reasons for the surprisingly high levels of happiness and contentment in materially poor non-Western countries and why Western people appear to be so estranged from the social, material and spiritual landscape. The Mad "Your Party" Conference; Dean says, "God has no taste"; and Is the Quiet Revival being stole

Revs with a true difference Jamie Franklin and Daniel French sit down to talk about the most interesting stories in church and state this week. This time: The hilarious Your Party conference shenanigans: they couldn’t organise a bun fight in a bakery and yet they want to take over the whole economy! The Dean of Salisbury says wear tacky Christmas jumpers because God is “tasteless” and “doesn’t make cultural or aesthetic judgments”. The Covid Enquiry; Rev Kate Bottley in the Headlines; The Christian Nationalism "Dilemma"; and More!

Church of England revs with a difference Daniel French and Jamie Franklin sit down to talk about a packed couple of weeks of news. This time: The Covid Enquiry says it should have all been harder, faster and quicker. Guess what our reaction is? Rev Kate Bottley hits the headlines for saying she watches reality TV and has doubts. But is this the best approach to ministry today? Christian Nationalism is all the rage in the media. Why now and how should the church respond to the resurgence of interest in Christianity? And the right to jury trial is being curtailed by David Lammy, who only five years ago was saying that it was a cornerstone of the British constitution. What is going on? The Case AGAINST Slavery Reparations with Nigel Biggar

The Church of England's Church Commissioners are ear-marking £100million (or is it £1billion?) for slavery reparations. Emeritus Professor of Moral Theology and Member of the House of Lords, Nigel Biggar says that this idea is ethically dubious and amounts to thinly-veiled self-flagellation in an effort to appear relevant to a post-Christian society in the face of the Church's dwindling numbers and influence. CofE rev with a difference Jamie Franklin sits down to talk with Lord Biggar about his new book and related issues: The shady world of the Church of England's Project Spire: its methodology, processes and rationale for reparations. Historical arguments for and against reparations by the Church of England. The wider context of the ethical debate around reparations including the ubiquity of slavery, British abolitionism and the suppression of slavery, and the "riotous jungle of history". Why arguments for reparations are based on a lack of understanding of, and sympathy for, our forbears. What is the relationship of Woke orthodoxy to Christianity. The Early Church and slavery. The legality (or not) of reparations. Hopes for the new book and the future Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, vis-a-vis this issue. Pompous Church Leaders Opine on Unite the Kingdom; Digital ID; Theology of Climate Change Activism; and reaching the Isl

Church of England rev with a difference Jamie Franklin is joined by the Rev'd Dr Duane Miller, missionary to the Islamic world and scholar in contextual theology with a particular focus on Islam. They talked about the challenges with demographic change and Islamic political theology, how Christianity offers a distinct vision for politics than Islam, how to share Christ with Muslims, what Muslim background believers to Christianity should do and Duane's involvement with International Muslim Outreach (https://www.imuslimoutreach.com). Franklin also gives his thoughts on further pompous ostensibly Christian intervention in the Unite the Kingdom rally debate, digital ID cards, and an interesting article on the theology of climate change activists. Updated
