JLPT N5 Episode 1

Episode in JLPT Grammar
the first 3 grammar points are essential to Japanese. In fact they are probably the first words you learned, or are about to learn in Japanese. Todays grammar points are:   ?? ? ? ?? literally means (is, are, to be, or am) when added to the end of a sentence it creates a declarative statement.  ?, is whats known as a particle, this particle’s purpose is to mark the topic of the conversation at hand. ?, this is also a particle, like ?, however this one has 2 usages. the first usage is as a possessive particle, meaning it can be used after a noun to show ownership, like my bag or your laptop. And the second usage is also used after a noun in whats called a modifying particle. why? well, because its modifying a noun. So what does that even mean anyway? What’s the difference? Well lets go to some examples to help better explain. example 1: Newbie’s to Japanese get ready for your first vocabulary words. Try saying these out loud with me: ?????????????????(watashi wa Ayumi desu) ? (??? watashi) means I,Myself, or me. So putting together what we had before, this sentence means I am Ayumi. example 2: ?????????????????????????(watashi no namae wa Ayumi desu). This is the first usage of the “?”(no) particle, which shows possession, like MY name. ?????????????(watashi no namae) the last example will be talking about the second usage of the “?” (no) particle, the modifier: ???? ????????(mahou no yume) “??????(mahou)” means magic! and “?????(yume)” means dream, and the no particle in this case modifies the noun. This sentence means “magical dream”, and although its not wrong to think “magic’s dream” since this case, we can assume the word “magic” is being used to describe the other noun “dream”. another example would be ???????????????(basuke no shiai), a basketball game, basketball in this case is describing the kind of game. As you can see “basketball’s game” just doesn’t make sense here. Your most interesting word for today is ????????????? (ji-ko-sho-u-kai) this means self- introduction, which is what you learned today. So go do some ????! Thats all for today! Thanks for joining us and don’t for get to subscribe! An again if you have any questions, concerns, or qualms feel free to check out our website at www.jlptgrammar.com. We hope to see some of your own ???? on our site! Until then! ???!
