In this episode, our guest is Başak Etkin. She first gives us a brief description about her professional life in Paris. She then shares with us her opinion on indigenous rights in light of the views published by the UN Human Rights Committee. Finally, she comments on the problem of gender equality in international law and promotee solidarity among female international lawyers. Başak emphasises that this is not women’s issue, but this is all humans’ issue.

In this episode, our guest is Hannes Jobstl. As a Ph.D. Candidate in International Law at the University of Oxford, he gives us an insight on his career journey and his research area concerning the law of armed conflicts, by also putting a particular emphasis on his experience in the Austrian Parliament. Finally, Hannes shares his opinions on the future of international law after the Covid-19 pandemic.

In our fourth episode, our guest Ilayda Eskitascioglu will tell us about her story, how she has become passionate about international human rights law and how she ended up in a PhD program and creating her own initiative: “We Need to Talk”. İlayda will also enlighten us by sharing her struggles as a young internationalist in women's rights as a representative of UN Women Beijing +25 Youth Task Force.

In this episode, Tan Albayrak first tells us about his academic and professional career path, with a particular emphasis on his WTO experience in Geneva. Then, we discuss the current developments on the emerging trade wars, especially with respect to the national security justifications under Article XXI GATT, considering the US Section 232 case as well as the recent panel ruling on DS512. Finally, Tan shares his opinions on the future of WTO, assessing what kind of alternatives member states can find to WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body, in case the current discussions and disagreements on abolishing the WTO system would lead to a deeper crisis in multilateral trade.

Then, we discuss the current challenges and developments of the reforms being made in this field, especially in its dispute settlement dimension. After having elaborated the fundamental differences between ISDS (investor-state dispute settlement system) and ICS (international court system proposed by CETA), we further assess the proposed regime from the EU perspective, considering the autonomy of the EU legal order.
