Skier and artist Chris Bentchetler stopped by KHOL to discuss the screening of his new film, "Mountains of the Moon." The screenings at the Center for the Arts featured an immersive art installation in the lobby and a live scoring of the movie by Ross James and members of the Terrapin Family Band. Bentchetler and James discussed their connections with members of the Grateful Dead, the underlying artistic vision that influences backcountry skiing, and how the film evolved into a multi-media visual and auditory experience.

The “Scream” movies are on a 30-year cinematic run and have become one of the slasher genre’s most recognizable franchises. KHOL film critic Jeff Counts just saw No. 7, out now in theaters, and gives us his report on the state of the series.

From the quiet hills of Topanga Canyon to the bustling streets of Mexico City, the music of Friends Of seeks to bridge the gap between the honest simplicity of country music and the effervescent ethos of disco. Zeke Reed set out to become a neuroscientist, but quickly realized his true calling was to uplift voices of his community. As a reporter at KCRW in Los Angeles, he finds a fulfillment in journalism that allows him to engage with his diverse interests. Reed came by KHOL while on vacation to discuss his songwriting process, the universal appeals of disco and country, and the critical need for public radio.

The 2026 AlpinFilm Festival will occur on January 16 and 17 in Jackson at Black Diamond and The Center for the Arts. This annual celebration of mountain storytelling is produced by the Teton Climber’s Coalition. KHOL film critic Jeff Counts got a chance to preview the entire slate of films and speak to the Coalition’s founder and Executive Director, Christian Beckwith.

From ice pick to guitar pick, 93 year-old local legend Bill Briggs still seeks perfection. From his formation of Sunday Service at the Stagecoach to the Hootenanny at Dornans, Briggs has been carving his own niche in Jackson for decades. The “Father of Extreme Skiing” came by KHOL to talk about playing with Bob Dylan, his historic first descent of the Grand Teton, and if there’s anything in his career he would do differently.

The 2025 Jackson Hole International Film Festival will take place December 11-14 and feature over a dozen movies from across the creative spectrum. KHOL Film Critic Jeff Counts got a chance to talk to the creators of three of the films about their projects and what it means to be part of the Festival.
