You’ve probably heard about “Oriented” by now. It’s the 89 minute, charmingly entertaining peek into the real lives of three gay Palestinians who found the courage to “come out” while living in Tel Aviv.
I sat down for a chat with the film’s straight, Jewish director, Jake Witzenfeld. We talked about how political homosexuality in the face of conflict can be, what Jake learned about himself while directing it, and I got some insight into the creative process he went through along the way.
Oriented is now available on iTunes!
Hope you enjoy!

E06 – Jonny Stark & Secret Tel Aviv
Episode in
Kipp Kong
It’s rare to find an English speaker in Israel who hasn’t heard of the Facebook group Secret Tel Aviv or the man behind it, Jonny Stark. Jonny joined me on Kipp Kong to talk about how he turned a group of a few friends into an over 107,000 member group and Tel Aviv’s online cultural center… if you’re an English speaker, of course.
^ Check out the interview highlights here! ^
Jonny and I talked about how and why he created the page, what they’re up to now, cyber bullying, and all the drama he’s had to face for managing a group that he says is meant mainly to help internationals settle in Israel.
You can check out his page for yourself by searching Secret Tel Aviv on Facebook or clicking here. To listen to the show on iTunes, click here, or right click this link and click “save link as” to download the mp3.

E03 – Jews, Jesus, and the hipster hotspot of the Middle East…
Episode in

Tel Aviv is known for many things. It’s the artsy Euro-esque enclave amidst Israel’s raw desert machismo, the gay capital of the Middle East, and a firm mix of modern yuppie chutzpah, old time goodness, and laid back beach life. What one might not anticipate to find tucked away in one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods is a newly renovated, open urban space dedicated to spreading the message of Jesus.
This week, I sat down with Eli Birnbaum, the youth and young adult ministry director for Jews for Jesus Tel Aviv. We talk about his organization’s mission, their methods, and what it means to him to be both a Jew and a follower of Christ. You can right click this link and click “Save as” to download the mp3.
Whenever I tell someone I was raised as a Messianic Jew, they usually have a whole spectrum of questions, and I’m happy to answer. Yes, Messianic Jews are Jews who believe in Jesus. No, it’s not the same thing as Jews for Jesus. Yes, I was circumcized. No, my family didn’t celebrate Christmas…
Now I’m secular. I no longer hold to the religious doctrines my parents taught me, but I still really enjoy dialoguing about it. For me my talk with Eli was like rehashing old times and getting to hear how the faith has been managing without me
