24: #profitseries 7 tips to Improve Your Sales Skills
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
Who else gets all icky and flushed in the face when it comes to actually SELLING the thing we do?! We know we both do and we confess in the episode some of our not so #ladyboss behaviours around avoiding that bit altogether. But we can’t be in business if we don’t sell anything SO here are our 7 tips to help you improve your sales skills – and we know they work because they are what we both used to better our skills in the area.
This is episode Six and our final episode in our #profitseries and WOW what a series it’s been!
So before we get into the SELLING we wanted to do a quick overview of the whole series!
In this series on PROFIT, we’ve talked about a number of ways to increase our profit. We looked at building a profit mindset, reducing our expenses, adding new profitable streams of income to our business model. We talked to special guests Laura Elkaslassy and Denise Duffeild Thomas. And we got real and honest with you about where things are at in our businesses (and you did too in our gorgeous online community).
Today we are talking about the VOLUME dimension – making more sales!
An increase in sales won’t always mean more profit, so you really need to understand your numbers before assuming that selling more will make you more.
But we can safely say every ladyboss needs to work on her sales skills. Here are our top 7 tips:
Tip 1: Mindset Shiz
Stop thinking of Sales is a dirty word. Selling is about relationships. So focus on how to build and grow strong relationships with your ideal customer. The selling then comes more naturally.
Tip 2: Have a funnel strategy
This is about having something at every level of the mountain/funnel, and having those things nurture people towards your premium product (which we talk a little about Episode 20).
Tip 3: Tracking your leads
How do you manage your leads? Having hot lists, customer vision boards etc Don’t go and spend big on a fancy CRM – simply think about how you track your customers and potential customers and how you could improve that process in your business.
Tip 4: Bosses follow up!
The fortune is in the follow up! Don’t be shy about re-sending that invitation or asking if that potential client is still keen to work with you.
Tip 5: Understanding the lifetime value of a customer
It’s easy to get stuck chasing the next new customer – but how can you love on the ones you already have!
The 80/20 Rule Book
If 100 people pay you $100, 20 (20%) people will pay $400, 4 (20%) people will spend $1600
Tip 6: Sales conversations
Whether on a webinar, writing an email, speaking from stage or having a 1:1 conversation – let’s talk about how we sell/talk sales. Practice it and see how you can improve.
Tip 7: Review and take note of CHANGES for next time.
Don’t forget to take stock and take NOTE of what you want to do differently next time!
Remember above all else, people want to know how to work with you so stop being so shy about telling them! #yougotthis

22: #profitseries Create a Passive Income Product
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
Today in the #profit series we are focussing in on developing passive income products to develop our positive money mindset and add more profitable products to our business model.
Passive income is NOT the silver bullet in six figure business, it’s not a build it and they will come strategy. BUT having a product that can be leveraged and sold without additional effort from you IS really good, for mindset, business AND Profit.
A well executed passive income product will take time in the initial stage to develop, but then it can be sold over and over again
Can also be great value-adds for the other work you do, ie. adding value to a VIP client package
Examples of passive income products in our #ladyboss community:
Claire Barton has a planner (http://www.clairebarton.com.au/shop/the-recovering-perfectionists-2017-planner)

16: Expanding Your Reach and Growing Your Influence
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
As we grow our businesses we go through stages, sometimes we need to knuckle down, focus on our current clients and nurture our exisiting networks. Other times however we want growth and expansion. We want to find new communities to connect with, new people to share our message with and ultimately new clients.
How do we do that?
We are both big believers in the social marketing of Facebook Groups and tribe building through our own content and connections. But what about when you want to go beyond your circle of influence and find new people to connect to?
If you do want to expand your reach and pitch yourself you MUST check out Katie’s webinar tomorrow – JOIN HERE!
Why Expand Your Reach
There are lot of benefits to reaching out beyond your current networks such as:
Up-leveling your business
Accelerate your growth
Find new inspiration and ideas from outside your industry
New clients and therefore more income
Sharing your message further and wider can help you get clarity on your own message and see your own value
So, How do you go about it?
Think about all of the one off encounters you have had, twitter connections with people you thought seemed interesting and follow up on this. Connect again with people you knew a year ago and find out what they are up to now. Find out how you can add value and support them, foster the relationship and see what grows from it.
Seek out totally new environments – go to events outside your core industry. Katie meet so many new and exciting entrepreneurs by heading to We Are Podcast a few weeks ago and now has a long list of new business connections.
Remember to follow up on new connections and if you aren’t sure how, try asking “Is there anything I can HELP you with right now?”
Host your own events such as coffee meet ups, Christmas catchups etc and invite your tribe and ask them to invite their tribe.
Seek out events in your local area and make the time to get along to them.
Pitch yourself – share your wisdom with new audiences by pitching guest posts, podcast interviews and speaker gigs.
Building your influence on your own platforms is a really important step in the process so think about your own social media, newsletter list and Facebook groups etc – building influence here will give you the confidence and the currency to reach out wider.
You have to make time for connecting and relationship building – and you have to know it is a LONG game.
What about the challenges?
The fear of rejection is so innate for us human beings right? Many of us have seriously limiting beliefs about the value of our knowledge and the angst of sharing that with new people – what if they don’t like it?
How do you overcome that?
Practice! You do get better and it the more you do it.
Don’t take it personally (easier said than done we know!) but know a NO is not actually a rejection of your or your values!
Until it’s a NO it’s not a NO! If you get a “Not right now” then follow up! Pitch again.
Try and be more transactional about the situation.
Don’t discount the value of your work if you do get a No – but also don’t let YES be what validates what you have to offer. You need to believe in your work BEFORE you take it out in the world. This will make the reactions much less personal.
Just start! Pitch one podcast, reach out to potential connection and just see what happens.
Thanks again for listening and loving the show – be sure to leave us a review!!

13: Spring Clean Your Biz Series – Email List and Opt Ins
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
Email marketing is such a valuable tool in your business and that means it is VERY worthwhile taking the time to clean up the process and start really nurturing your list. Opt Ins are a great list building tool but you need to make sure they fit your biz and that they are working for you. Today we talk about lots of actions you can consider to Spring Clean your list and boost your open rates and
Oh my WOW! We have had such a wonderful response to our last episode and it’s really exciting to hear people share what they taken action on and tidied up on their websites and social media profiles. Today we are digging a little deeper and looking at your email list and opt ins. Are these things really working for you and how can you clean them up and give that fresh spring feel!
What are you currently doing and how is it going?
What list-building activities are you undertaking?
Inventory. Podcast content upgrades, website opt in, blog post content upgrades, webinars, etc
How are they working for you?
How are your open rates, are people staying subscribed, what is the growth like and what are the current numbers?
Do an inventory list of all the Opt Ins you have out in the world currently.
How can you spring clean your opt ins? Think about your opt ins as part of FUNNELS.
Do you still love them? Are they relevant to the work you are doing in your business now? Are they converting for you? Are they a sensible lead into a funnel that leads to clients? If not, it’s time to let them go (put them in your FB group for your peeps to take for free – #freelove)
Can you repurpose old ones into something new and better (ie. a webinar recording chopped into a mini course)
Do your funnels / products / services require a new opt in? (in Part 3 of the Spring Clean series we will get you looking at your products and services)
How will you identify the RIGHT opt in (ask your list, ask your clients, ask your target market. DON’T just crowdsoruce in FB groups as they won’t all be your ™)
Schedule whatever actions you need to take on your optins and give them a gorgeous launch and promo period
What email marketing are you doing and how is it working?
Can you repurpose old ones into something new and better (ie. a webinar recording chopped into a mini course)
How do you actually to spring clean your list of email subscribers?
Segment your list and email people who have not opened an email in 6 months >> invite them to opt out, or if they are not opting out, ask them to tell you what they’d like to hear from you – this can reduce your subscribers, but that might save you money and also heartache as your open rates will likely increase.
What about the Automated Welcome Series?
Go through your own process and make sure it is still up to date and relevant.
Check that the Welcome Emails match up with the opt in that got them on the list.
Give SUPER awesome value and set clear expectations around what people can expect.
Let people get to know YOU and share some of your story.
Katie’s HOT TIP
Set this stuff up as a draft in a word processing program and THEN move it over to your email program, this lets you play, change and edit with a lot more ease.
How do you find the right Opt In
Target Market Research – we talked about this a lot in our Ideal Client Episode
ASK your list, give them a chance to let you know what they want to hear from them
Don’t crowd source this in big groups which are full of people aren’t your IC
Ask your own group or your clients – you might be surprised what value other people in the work you offer
Elle’s HOT TIP
Set out a content plan so you know in advanced what you are going to say in the next few newsletters. Don’t put pressure on yourself to come up with an amazing topic on the day you want to send your newsletter out.

Our Biggest Top Tip
Just pick ONE thing that we talked about and start there. Don’t be overwhelmed by the long list of actions you may want to take now. Just do ONE. Come back and do another later if you want to but just start.

12: Spring Clean Your Biz Series – Website and Social Media
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
Spring has sprung here in Australia and what better time to look over all the aspects of your business and do a freshen up!
For the next few episodes we are going to go through a list of helpful actions you can take to give your business a Spring Clean. It feels good when you do it to your wardrobe right? So why not your biz too.
Take a listen to the episode to hear all our tips and advice for sprucing up your website and social media platforms.
Website
How up to date are your pages, contact forms, etc?
Is your about page update and talking to your Ideal Client?
Do you have opt ins and lead boxes on your blog posts and other important pages?
Should you create a Start Here menu option?
When was the last time you ran a back up or updated your theme and plugins?
What are you currently doing and how is it going? Look at your analytics and start tracking your numbers.
Do a more complete Website Review
Come in front end with your Ideal Client Avatar in mind and look at all your pages. Write a list of everything that needs changing, don’t get overwhelmed by it, simply jot it all down and prioritise the list. Then set aside a little time each week to work on through the list. Does the site flow and the information make sense for a brand new visitor- is it clear who you are and what you do?
Social Media
Take stock of what platforms are you on and how is the follower growth, engagement and your own interest in the platform – don’t get stuck in the numbers but tracking can be very helpful.
Review your About sections and Profile Info – again making sure that contact information and business details are up to date.
Maybe trim down the number of platforms so you can focus on the ones you like and your Ideal Client engage most with.
If want to still have a presence on some but not focus on them, automate the content and make it clear where people can find you to properly engage.
Top 3 actions to move forward
Website
Review your About Page and make sure your Products and Services and Lead Magnets are up to date and looking swish.
Social Media
Feel permission to automate one or stop focussing on it if it’s not inspiring you or paying dividends. Schedule your time on the platforms where you want to be more present. Allow yourself time, ie. an hour a week, where you are SOURCING or CREATING content for your social – batch the task.
Come and join our fun and active #Ladyboss Project Facebook Group to share your progress and stay accountable while you work through your Spring Cleaning tasks. And tune in next fortnight when we look at Spring Cleaning your Email List and Opt Ins.

Today we’re talking all things scheduling … like a ladyboss! We have very different schedules – Elle works full time in her business and Katie is side hustling around a full time job and now twins! Today we are breaking down what we do, what works and what you can do to get some more productive scheduling into your boss life!

Elle shares her “wishlist” which helps her fill unexpected gaps of time wisely
Katie talks about her awesome weekly schedule template she created in Asana with the inspiration from productivity guru Jo Bendle
We discuss the power of intense blocks of time to smash out a task
We each share our morning and evening routines – the ideal and the reality!
Elle’s top tip for wanting more structure in your biz routine? Start small with one thing and play with it, have fun with it.
Katie’s top tip is to get really clear on your ACTUAL capacity and start putting time allotments against tasks so that you can see when you’re fully committed, and also how good (or bad) you are at estimating time!

7: How to Assess a Launch
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
So you've heard all the hype about LAUNCHING and how important it is for online business. You've read the posts and seen the webinars on how to launch and how to launch with style - but what do you do when it's over, you've come down off the adrenaline high and you are trying to work out what's next in your business.
But how do you assess a launch? How do you decide if it was a success, how do learn from the things that went well or not so well?
Today we're chat about our two most recent launches, what worked, what didn't and why the debrief process is SO important for your next launch.
How do you assess the results of a launch? What do you do after?
How to take the results and LEARN from it?
What is the conversation happening around LAUNCHING? Is running a massive, stressful & exhausting launch a badge of honour for a #ladyboss?
It takes a lot of time to build your business up to the bigger launches and people aren't always talking about that.
Launching is tough - no doubt - but you don't NEED to kill yourself to launch a thing.
What measures do you put into place to measure your success, before, during and after?
You measures of success need to be true for you and relevant and realistic for where you are at in business and where you are taking your business.
What metrics can you use outside of straight sales?
How do you measure the more intangible aspects such as the vibe, the conversations about your thing?
Focusing on the PEOPLE who do buy your thing rather than the numbers they you didn't hit can shift your focus to failure to excitement.
What are LEAD and LAG measures and how do to track mid-launch?
Who is your support team throughout the launch process?
How do you make sure you are doing the RIGHT tasks? Katie gives an amazing exercises to make sure you are doing the right tasks with your time to bring in the revenue.
There are no RULES - don't let anyone tell you that you have to do a big, live launch to be successful in business.

5: Run a Facebook Group Like a Boss
Episode in
#ladyboss chats
Today we're talking Facebook Groups! Should you run one, and if so, how to rock it like the boss lady that you are!
Katie and Elle both have multiple Facebook Groups - they share the story behind each of them!
Straight up - should every entrepreneur have a Facebook Group?
It's important to be ultra clear about the purpose of your group and why you're starting - is it community? Building authority? Getting clients?
Knowing your why will keep you focused and committed during the days when it feels like you're in there talking to yourself
Groups take TIME to build, grow and lead - so if you're not ready and interested in doing that consistent work, then maybe it's not right for you
We talk about the specific role that leadership and facilitation plays in building a group that rocks - particularly around elevating others over just yourself
To theme or not to theme? That is the question
And we go on a rant - of course - about the way some group leaders constrain promotions in their group
AND ... we have a new Facebook Group to continue the conversation from the podcast and share our findings on our #ladybossexperiments - Click on Join the Community in the menu bar to come and join the action.
We mentioned a lot of Facebook Groups in today's episode, here they are for you:
