S4E5 : Keeping The Human Touch : Rick Elmore, Founder and CEO, Simply Noted

Welcome to the final week of the #LeadWithYourBrandChallenge! Each week in January, Jayzen is breaking down the Lead With Your Brand system into its five steps. Every Tuesday, listen to the podcast & learn about the next step to build your personal brand and help you toward your next Career Breakthrough!  There are even free downloadable worksheets with each step to help you in the process. Step Five : Promote Yourself You have heard the old saying, “if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it really make a sound?” The same thing is true about your brand. You can do all of the work to put it down on paper and be thoughtful about your actions and your choices. But, if no one is hearing about it, nobody knows about you. There are three ways to really think about this. One is your advertisement. This is what you say about yourself. You control this message. What is your elevator pitch? How do you show up on brand and what do you say in a meeting or on a conference call. Second, is all about your influencers – your SuperFans.  Who are the people that are your brand ambassadors? These SuperFans love you and talk about you when you’re not in the room. What have you done lately to make sure that you are top of their mind? The final element is word-of-mouth. There is no easy solution to this. You must show up on-brand with your actions and behaviors every single day. This is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. This should be an amazing tailwind that helps your brand moving further and faster in the right direction. Without self-management, it could wind up being a headwind that is causing drag on your brand. Jayzen is thrilled to welcome Rick Elmore to the show.  A former player in the NFL, Rick has gone on to be the founder and CEO of Simply Noted - one of the coolest new companies in business!  In this digital age, Rick and his team are recapturing the incredible impact of handwritten notes, only now on a massive scale using the latest robotic technology. Guest Bio Rick Elmore Founder and CEO Simply Noted Rick Elmore is an entrepreneur, sales and marketing expert, and former college and professional football athlete. As the Founder and CEO of Simply Noted, Rick developed a proprietary technology that puts real pen and ink to paper to scale handwritten communication, helping businesses of all industries scale this unique marketing platform to stand out from their competition and build meaningful relationships with clients, customers, and employees. Founded in 2018 and based in Tempe, Arizona, Simply Noted has grown into a thriving company with clients of various sizes across the country including in hospitality, real estate, insurance, nonprofit, franchise, B2B, and others. S4E4 : Commitment to Community : Daphne Kwok, Vice President, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Asian American &...

Welcome to Week 4 of the #LeadWithYourBrandChallenge! Step Four: Keep Up Your Image Now that you have created your five to eight SuperSized brand attributes, you have to live them every single day. The bottom line is a Brand isn’t about words that you put on paper. It’s about the actions and the choices you make every single day. Take those brand attributes and peel the layers back. Imagine that you are on a reality show. We have had a film crew follow you all last week. We are playing the tape back and watching. What are the things that we would see do? What would we hear you say and how would you say it? What are the things you do that we would label as your brand attributes? Ultimately, leading with your brand is about observable actions and behaviors that you must demonstrate every day. Document a list of these behaviors and start emulating them in a consciously, competent way. Great brands think about their brand filter. Create your formula that determines the way that you dress, the way that you maintain your office space, and most importantly, the way you create your signature projects. No matter how boring a project or task you’ve been given, you can do it in a way that brings your brand attributes to life and really promotes you. Jayzen is excited to welcome Daphne Kwok to the show.  Her work as the Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Asian American & Pacific Islander Audience Strategy at AARP empowers Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to choose how they live as they age.  Previously, Ms. Kwok was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2010 to chair his Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.  Guest Bio Daphne Kwok Vice President Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Asian American & Pacific Islander Audience Strategy AARP Daphne Kwok is the Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Asian American & Pacific Islander Audience Strategy at AARP.  Her work empowers Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to choose how they live as they age.  She brings to AARP her experience as a “leader of leaders” through her community service in promoting and empowering the AAPI community.   Ms. Kwok was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2010 to chair his Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Commission served as the “eyes and ears” of the community advising the President and the federal government about the issues impacting the AAPI community.  As Chair, Ms. Kwok met with AAPI communities throughout the country, connecting them to regional federal agency representatives.  This opened an opportunity for the agencies to learn about these communities and to acquaint them with their programs and services.   Ms. Kwok concluded her term as chair in May 2014 but continued as a commissioner until February 2017. Previously, Ms. Kwok was Executive Director of Asians & Pacific Islanders with Disabilities of California.  She was also the Executive Director of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation in San Francisco.  For 11 years, she was the Executive Director of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA), a national membership based civil rights organization, where she addressed:  hate crimes, campaign finance, immigration, Census 2000, English-only, and affirmative action.  She was the first elected Chair of the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans, a network of national APA organizations.  She also served as Executive Director of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies.   A 1984 graduate of Wesleyan University, Ms. Kwok is the first Asian American to serve on its Board of Trustees, is a trustee emeritus and chaired the Wesleyan Alumni Association.  Ms. Kwok’s board service includes: Chair of APIAVote,  a member of the Comcast-NBCUniversal Joint Diversity Advisory Council, Co-Chair of the Nielsen External Asian Pacific Advisory Council and board member of the Asian American Advertising Federation and Future Proof Institute.  Links  To learn more about Lead With Your Brand and the Career Breakthrough Mentoring program , please visit : LeadWithYourBrand.com To book Jayzen for a speaking engagement or workshop at your company, visit Jayzenpatria.com Please connect on Linkedin and all platforms @jayzenpatria

Take those 5 to 8 brand attributes that you came up with in the last step. Go through the McDonald’s drive-through and SUPERSIZE your words and define those attributes as your SUPERPOWERS. Take those words and switch them from being commodity descriptors that everyone uses and make them uniquely you.   Don’t just say, “I’m a good presenter.” Say, “I’m a showman!” It’s not, “hey I’m well networked and have great relationships with people.” it’s, “I’m a super connector!”  Why just be analytical when you can be a Data Guru? If you are organized, are you really a Precision Executor? If you are innovative, are you really a First-Mover who is the first to jump onto new ideas and trends?  These super-charged ownable words now become your word bank for Linkedin, annual reviews, job applications, how you talk about yourself and how you present your ideas.  Jayzen is excited to welcome Robin Singhvi to the show. S4E2 : Creating Your Fresh Start : Galina Cherny, Leadership Coach & Author

Welcome to week 2 of the #LeadWithYourBrandChallenge! What if you were to use a brand marketer’s toolkit to build your own personal brand? What if you thought about yourself as a product? In a world where thousands of people do your exact same job, you must find a way to be more than just a commodity worker. In your career, you must be a Super-Premium Brand that gets people to do more, contribute more, and pay you more – just like they do for great brands that they love. Ask yourself, in your career, are you coffee or are you Starbucks?  Step Two: Know What You Stand For Today Here is the dirty little secret. We can all smell inauthenticity from a mile away and it reeks! If you’re thinking, “I want to be Steve Jobs” or “I want to be Sheryl Sandberg” or “I want to have Oprah Winfrey‘s brand,” the truth is, you are not Oprah, and you’re never going to be her! Who you are is you. What you can be is THE BEST you! Start by thinking authentically what your brand authentically is today. What are those words and adjectives that people have used to describe you, sometimes even since you were a little kid? What do people love about you? Find 5 to 8 words that resonate with you. Maybe you are analytical, organized, and innovative. These become your brand attributes that you lead with all the time and are truly authentically you.  Jayzen is thrilled to welcome Galina Cherny to the show. Speaking very little English, Galina and her family emigrated to the US when she was early in her career. She landed a job as a clerk, and went on to become an early computer programmer. Ultimately, leading technology teams as an executive. She is now a leadership coach founding her own boutique firm, The Cherny Group. She also recently published her memoir, The Last Train to Freedom.   Guest Bio Galina Cherny Leadership Coach & Author  Galina was born and raised in the capital of Soviet Ukraine—Kiev (now Kyiv). In 1979, she emigrated to the United States as a Jewish refugee with her husband and their three-year-old son. Galina was twenty-six.  She began her professional journey in Los Angeles, where the family settled upon arrival. Starting as a simple clerk with very limited English proficiency, she later became a computer programmer and ultimately ascended to technology executive leadership and later became a transformational leadership coach, founding her own boutique firm, The Cherny Group.  Galina is a gracious hostess who loves bringing people together in her home in Encino, California where she lives with her husband John. Galina and John enjoy travel, dancing, and the outdoors. But most of all, they love spending time with their two sons and their families. They have four grandchildren, who are the light of their lives.   Galina is a passionate storyteller whose childhood dream of becoming a writer materialized with her memoir, The Last Train to Freedom.
