Brentwood Academy is a leader among independent schools in weaving Christian values into the fabric of academics, fine arts, and athletics. Led by Headmaster Curt Masters, educators at the Nashville area college preparatory school (grades 6-12) share ideas about how the integration of faith in higher learning affects students’ world views and prepares them to utilize their intellect for the greater good of their culture. Podcast episodes focus on a variety of topics related to the values and leadership that today’s youth are learning as they prepare to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Intellectual Growth Begins With Knowing Truth

In this inaugural episode of the Brentwood Academy “Leadership and Values” podcast, Headmaster Curt Masters shares his perspective on how our pursuit of truth influences the way we respond to our culture and how we influence those around us. “Intellectual growth begins by deciding what is truth. How do we know truth? How do we determine reality? How do I interact with my Creator?” Masters poses these and many more questions that he considers vital as we consider how we define success individually and as a culture. Curt Masters came to Brentwood Academy in 2000 as the second headmaster in the school’s history. His leadership and spiritual guidance continue to direct the 45-year-old independent school in its unwavering mission to “nurture and challenge each whole person—body, mind, and spirit—to the glory of God.” Masters is well known among local and national private educators as a deep thinker and influential leader in Christian education. Masters was mainly raised in Indonesia with his missionary parents. He attended Wheaton College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree and later earned a master of education in administration from the University of Puget Sound and a Ph.D. (ABD) in educational leadership from the University of Miami. Before coming to Brentwood Academy, Masters was headmaster and upper school principal of Dade Christian School in Miami; the dean of students at The Stony Brook School in New York; and assistant principal at Life Christian School in Tacoma, Washington.
