Connected Cars
Episode in
LeasePlan Podcasts
How will connected and autonomous vehicles impact fleets, and what role can data play? In this podcast, LeasePlan’s experts look to the future. Listen now.
Cars are getting smarter. They’ve had some connectivity for years – sat nav, Bluetooth, diagnostics and telematics – but more and more vehicles are part of the Internet of Things through 3G and 4G mobile connections.
Around 4 million vehicles were connected in 2016, 8 million in 2018 and the figure is expected to hit 20 million by 2022.
What’s more, 5G is on the way and should provide massively greater speeds – and, therefore, the scope to do much more with car connectivity.
Matt Walters, LeasePlan’s Head of Consultancy and Customer Data Services, and Andy Rayner, an automotive industry expert, consider the opportunities; all the way to the possibilities of autonomous vehicles. This includes an exploration of the technology and its evolution, plus the role connectivity can play in fleet data and telematics.

LeasePlan Podcasts

Risk management essentially comes down to keeping people safe.

According to Department for Transport figures, 2,631 people were killed in accidents involving someone driving as part of their work, 24,647 people were seriously injured, and 201,137 were slightly injured.
In the context of these statistics, LeasePlan’s Matt Walters, Head of Consultancy and Customer Data Services, and Andy Rayner, an automotive industry expert, consider what fleet managers can do to keep their drivers and other road users safe.

Electric Vehicles Episode 2
Episode in
LeasePlan Podcasts
In the second of a two-part podcast about electric vehicles, two fleet experts discuss the improvements in vehicle and grid technology. Listen now.
In our second podcast on electric vehicles, we take a look at the structural side of the story: what are public bodies doing to make the UK EV-ready?
Whether people opt for pure electric or plug-in hybrids, there will be a huge need for charging – and there’s also significant demand for the vehicles themselves, so manufacturers need to make sure they have enough stock to meet expectations.
LeasePlan, for example, intends to have its entire fleet of 1.8 million vehicles as net zero emissions by 2030.
LeasePlan’s Head of Consultancy and Customer Data Services, Matt Walters, and Andy Rayner explore a range of related topics, including:
National Grid impact
Vehicle to Grid technology,
