Emergency Fund

An emergency fund is an essential safeguard against a loss of income or unexpected expenses (in our earlier article on Why You Need an Emergency Fund, we listed several expenses that can catch you off guard). But an emergency fund will do more than simply prepare you for the unpredictable. In this article, we explore several other ways that an emergency fund can benefit you. We often hear that failing to plan is planning to fail. This is particularly true when it comes to our finances. As humans, we tend to feel optimistic about the future and, as a result, most of us don’t start each year anticipating fender benders, job losses, geysers bursting and medical emergencies – or pandemics, for that matter.  Why have an emergency fund? Where to keep your emergency savings? Review your emergency fund regularly Breaking the barriers and getting started It’s said that money can’t buy you happiness, but that depends on your definition of happiness. If happiness means peace of mind, money certainly is a factor. Having a solid emergency fund can give you peace of mind by reassuring you that you can manage unforeseen expenses. By minimising financial stress, you can even improve other areas of your life; the real value of an emergency fund extends far beyond the rands in the account. Saving when you have no disposable income to save

Most of us want to save money so we can build wealth and plan for the future. We have goals we want to reach (like travelling) or things we want to buy (like a dream home). However, this can seem impossible when you’re surviving on low income. “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. While this quote isn’t about money, per se, it is about taking positive steps to make changes, and that’s what we’re all about. If your finances aren’t where you’d like them to be, now is the time to start making changes. Livhu's Story Budget Start a side hustle  Ask about discounts(and negotiate) Living a little more frugally will make it easier to put away money every month and make it easier to reach your next pay cheque a little more comfortably. You may need to make some lifestyle sacrifices but, in the long run, you will avoid financial stress and secure a better future for you and your family. So please remember that we can all save for as long as we are disciplined and save towards a goal we pretty much win and if you don't have a goal, how about you try saving for a deposit for your house or a car cause when that time comes you already ahead with your savings. No, this quote, by Benjamin Franklin, couldn't be better placed when talking about your finances.” Open a bank account that's tailored for your NEEDS Pay attention to your bank fees  Do your main banking with one bank which will facilitate your transacting and savings. Don’t be enticed by products that want you to spend only When taking out a loan always shop around  Always check your credit report Read the fine print And my favourite one, probably yours to; Do not take out a loan just to “Keep up with the Joneses or the Kardashians” If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/Podchaser?
