LH17 - Chicken Fanatics

Rinda Myers was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and grew up all over the country.  She moved to the Tulsa area in 2000 where she met and married her husband, Lonny, in 2002.  She graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2004 with a BS in Mathematics.  They were living in city limits in 2012 when they first got chickens, what she calls “The Gateway Animal,” and the rest is history.  They now live southeast of Tulsa on 9 acres with their four children, where she runs her poultry breeding business and her husband runs a handyman and lawncare business.  She stays busy caring for the animals and making plans for improving the property.  Being self sufficient and keeping their food source local is important to them. LH16: Living Free In Tennessee with Nicole Sauce

This episode I give you and update on the Liberty Homestead and then we have a conversation with Nicole Sauce of the Living Free In Tennessee podcast. When Nicole Sauce was 3 years old and stole a chocolate egg. Upon arriving home, her mother discovered to her horror that Nicole was a thief. She made Nicole return the egg, apologize to the store owner, AND pay the $.05 that the chocolate would have cost. This early lesson in private ownership and making real amends for damage you cause to others set the foundation for a long career in libertarian public policy. But one day, Nicole realized that if liberty-minded folks only focus on “fixing” government, we lose. While the work that our freedom-minded economists do is important, it is often better to go around the existing government structure, innovate, and render the offensive bureaucracy obsolete. Also important is for our liberty intellectuals and activists to learn to control their inner asshole and become approachable beacons to freedom rather than focus on things like “We have to let addicts choose to kill themselves through drug use” out of the chute. Her professional career includes political activism in the free market arena, executive coaching, business management process, technology innovation and execution, business startup counseling, public policy design and representation, project management, and event management. Nicole is passionate about raising awareness and appreciation for the ideals of liberty, freedom, and self-reliance. Earlier work in the freedom movement include SPN, the Beacon Center of Tennessee, and Cascade Policy Institute. She founded Spark Freedom to shock liberty policy talent into communicating through story first, then following with facts for the win. Her podcast, Living Free in Tennessee, aims to equip people with the tools they need to take control of their budgets, design their lifestyle and establish stability through our changing economy. Nicole also runs a craft coffee roasting business: HollerRoast.com. Nicole has published articles in The Oregonian, The Tennessean, and many other small, local newspapers. Her essay on the importance of community in the quest for liberty appears in the first edition of Forging Freedom, an anthology. Nicole engages in 4-6 speaking engagements per year at events like the Students for Liberty conference and the SPN annual meeting. Nicole functions as CEO, liberty communications advisor and keeper of the Spark Freedom brand. She is also an up-and-coming podcaster on self-reliance, homesteading, and small business entrepreneurship at LivingaFreeInTennessee.com.

FMCSR 49 CFR 390.5 Commercial motor vehicle means any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in interstate commerce to transport passengers or property when the vehicle— (1) Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, of 4,536 kg (10,001 pounds) or more, whichever is greater; or (2) Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or (3) Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or (4) Is used in transporting material found by the Secretary of Transportation to be hazardous under 49 U.S.C. 5103 and transported in a quantity requiring placarding under regulations prescribed by the Secretary under 49 CFR, subtitle B, chapter I, subchapter C. Covered farm vehicle— (1) Means a straight truck or articulated vehicle— (i) Registered in a State with a license plate or other designation issued by the State of registration that allows law enforcement officials to identify it as a farm vehicle; (ii) Operated by the owner or operator of a farm or ranch, or an employee or family member of a an owner or operator of a farm or ranch; (iii) Used to transport agricultural commodities, livestock, machinery or supplies to or from a farm or ranch; and (iv) Not used in for-hire motor carrier operations; however, for-hire motor carrier operations do not include the operation of a vehicle meeting the requirements of paragraphs (1)(i) through (iii) of this definition by a tenant pursuant to a crop share farm lease agreement to transport the landlord's portion of the crops under that agreement. (2) Meeting the requirements of paragraphs (1)(i) through (iv) of this definition: (i) With a gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight rating, whichever is greater, of 26,001 pounds or less may utilize the exemptions in §390.39 anywhere in the United States; or (ii) With a gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight rating, whichever is greater, of more than 26,001 pounds may utilize the exemptions in §390.39 anywhere in the State of registration or across State lines within 150 air miles of the farm or ranch with respect to which the vehicle is being operated.  Who must comply with the electronic logging device (ELD) rule? The ELD rule applies to most motor carriers and drivers who are currently required to maintain records of duty status (RODS) per Part 395, 49 CFR 395.8(a). The rule applies to commercial buses as well as trucks, and to Canada- and Mexico-domiciled drivers. The ELD rule allows limited exceptions to the ELD mandate, including: Drivers who operate under the short-haul exceptions may continue using timecards; they are not required to keep RODS and will not be required to use ELDs. Drivers who use paper RODS for not more than 8 days out of every 30-day period. Drivers who conduct drive-away-tow-away operations, in which the vehicle being driven is the commodity being delivered. Drivers of vehicles manufactured before 2000. Did this answer your question? If not, please email ELD@dot.gov or call 1-800-832-5660 for more information.  The U.S. Agriculture Department (USDA) defines a farm as “any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the year.”  https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/retrieveECFR?gp=1&ty=HTML&h=L&mc=true&=PART&n=pt49.5.390 https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/faq/who-must-comply-electronic-logging-device-eld-rule

LOP68 - Media Mislabeling

Intro:   Hey, how are you doing? Thank you for joining me here at Liberty On Point. This is episode number 68 and I am you host Tony Ray. Man, there has been a lot going on in the news, which has made it hard for me to keep up with the things that I want to keep an eye on, but with that being said, is the first segment we are going to talk about a few things going on in the news and in Congress. Then, in the second segment I want to talk about the executive orders that President Trump has signed since taking office, in particular the one that deals with immigration. We have a lot of ground to cover, so let's go ahead and get on with the show.   SDRN Plug   Segment 1: The first thing that I would like to talk about is, that I have to take my hat off to both President Trump and Vice-President Pence, and the reason is because of these two stories. The first is: President Trump Secretly Flies To Air Base To Meet Remains Of First Soldier Killed During His Presidency | Daily Wire http://www.dailywire.com/news/13067/honor-trump-secretly-flies-air-base-meet-remains-hank-berrien?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_content=013117-podcast&utm_campaign=billwhittle   Pence takes two wounded war veterans to Super Bowl 51 http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/02/06/pence-takes-two-wounded-war-veterans-to-super-bowl-51.html   It is nice to see a President and a V. Pres. that actually respect and honor the sacrifices that the men and women of the military have made. It has been far too long since we have seen a President that actually acts like the Commander-In-Chief. President Trump and V. Pres. Pence are actually showing the American public how to be leaders.   Did you hear about this FedEx Driver in Iowa that stopped some protesters from burning the American flag? There a couple of videos, of this incident, that have made it to the internet and that have gone viral. If you go to the show notes, libertyonpoint.com/068, there is a link to a Fox news story with a couple of clips of these videos. LOP66 - President Trump's Inaugural Address

In this week's episode I talk about former President Obama commuting Chelsea Manning's sentence. I also discuss President Trump's inaugural address, as well as a few other things, like H.R. 193 and H.R. 596 introduced to Congress. Chelsea Manning  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_Manning  http://www.newsweek.com/glenn-greenwald-why-americans-prefer-edward-snowden-chelsea-manning-355644 http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/01/17/will-wikileaks-julian-assange-make-good-on-his-offer-to-turn-himself-in-after-manning-clemency.html   Mr. Trump wasn't my first choice for President, but I am happy to say that he was sworn in as the 45th President on Friday, January 20th. I am overjoyed to say President Trump, instead of President Clinton. I do not believe that our country could handle another four years as bad as the last eight that we have survived. I am glad to see a President in the White House that actually likes the United States and is proud to be an American. For far too long, we have suffered a leader that was not proud to say that and that did not have America's best interest at heart. I cannot read Mr. Obama's mind, but his actions seem to say that he wanted to destroy all the things that make America great, and rebuild it into his concept of America. The following are some of the excerpts of President Trump's inaugural address that I found to be encouraging. Excerpts from Trumps Inaugural Address (with commentary). Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning because today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people. For too long, a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs. And while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land. What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people. January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again. Tony:  (Re-read highlights) This is the way that the Founding Father's intended it to be, that is why they wrote in the Constitution, "a government of the People, by the People, and for the People". The ideals of a government of the people are throughout the Constitution. The government is supposed to be taking its direction from the People, not making laws and then informing the people of those laws. For far too long, many people have wanted other people to make decisions for them. That is how we have gotten the government that we have today. For the ideal of a government of the people to work, the People must be engaged with their representatives. We cannot just elect people to office and expect that they will do the right things, without direction. It is great that President Trump has these ideals, however, he also has to have the cooperation of Congress and the Senate. At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction, that a nation exists to serve its citizens. Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves. These are just and reasonable demands of righteous people and a righteous public. But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge; and the crime and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential. This American carnage stops right here and stops right now. Tony: (Re-read highlight 1) I agree. Most Americans want good schools for their children, safe neighborhoods, and good jobs, but is this an issue for government? The problem with these issues is that government is too involved. At this point in time, all of these issues are centrally controlled through the federal government. If President Trump is talking about getting government out of these issues, then we will be doing good, however, if he is talking about more government interference, then it is only going to be the same old issues. (Re-read highlight 2) Again, I agree with this statement. The cost of education keeps going up, but the quality of that education keeps decreasing. We have high school students graduating that cannot read or do simple math. Some college students aren't much better off. We have people that are spending tens of thousands of dollars on a college education, and then can't get a decent paying job when they graduate. Again, this issue was created by government. Some of the problems include mandated curriculum and government backed loans. Go back and look at the math and the English lessons children were doing in the 30s, 40s and 50s. They were doing lessons in grade school, that our college students are doing. This is the result of a system that is all inclusive, this is the system that created participation trophies, and is trying to eliminate winners and losers. This is not the reality of real life. That is why we are seeing the drama over the election. I have talked before, about the bloated budgets of school systems, but always need more money.   For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry; subsidized the armies of other countries, while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military. We've defended other nations' borders while refusing to defend our own. And spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay. We've made other countries rich, while the wealth, strength and confidence of our country has dissipated over the horizon. One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions and millions of American workers that were left behind. The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed all across the world. Tony: (Re-read highlight). I have been saying this for quite a while now. We spend trillions of dollars every year helping other countries, which wouldn't be that big of a problem if we were flush with cash. However, the country is going broke and our spending deficit (the amount of money that the government has borrowed compared to the amount of money taken in through taxes) is in the tens of trillions of dollars. How about instead of spending a couple of million dollars helping somebody rebuild a mosque (yes, that has actually happened, and no we weren't the ones who damaged it) we spend that money on our own infrastructure or to help pay off the debt that we owe. We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it's going to be only America first, America first. Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs will be made to benefit American workers and American families. We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies and destroying our jobs. Tony: (Re-read highlight) I couldn't agree more. I want America's interest to be first. I am tired of Presidents and politicians that keep telling us that we have to sacrifice so that some other country can catch up or do better. I they were doing things correctly they would have already caught up. Do we improve competition by taking it easy on our components? It's not competition if we do that. This goes back into the statement about our education system, in real life you don't get a participation trophy. Those that are better equipped or that use their resources more wisely are the victors. We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world, but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first. We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example. We will shine for everyone to follow. (Re-read highlight) This goes back to the previous statement and perfectly demonstrates the America first attitude. It is a nations right to put their interests first. Just like it is and individuals right to put their interests first. That does not mean that we should lie, cheat, or steal to get what we want, but it is our right to put our interests first. The second part of this statement says that, "we do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example". I think that this is something, as Americans, that we have forgotten. We cannot force Democracy on anyone. People have to want to be free, and there are some parts of the world where they are OK with being ruled over At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other. When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice. Tony: Let's break this statement down. First the definition of allegiance is - from Merriam-Webster dictionary - devotion or loyalty to a person, group, or cause. Second, the definition of patriotism is - also from Merriam-Webster dictionary - a person who loves and strongly supports or fights for his or her country. For too long we have watched the loyalty to our country diminish. There are many people who are willing to criticize everything that the U.S. does and try to tear it down. Loyalty does not that we mindlessly follow everything that we are told to do. Being a patriot and being loyal to the U.S. doesn't mean that we don't vigorously debate what is the right course for the nation, but when we all have what is best for the country and its citizens in mind, then we all win. It doesn't seem as if many of our political leaders are loyal to the U.S.    We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable. Tony: I really can't add anything to this. It is stated quite clearly. Isn't that a lot of the problem here in America, we are chastised if we speak our minds openly. People do not debate honestly, they falsify facts, they mislead people, and they flat out lie just to promote their agenda. No thought is given to whether they may be wrong. The end justifies the means. If you cannot win the argument with vigorous, honest debate, then you are wrong. Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger. In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving. We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action, constantly complaining, but never doing anything about it. The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action. Tony: (Re-read highlight) This is why President Trump was voted into office. The People of the U.S. are tired of these types of politicians. In the next segment of the show, I will talk about how this election has seemed to have lighten a fire underneath a few politicians, and others it seems to have emboldened. Still others, seem to be continuing on as if nothing has changed. I hope that President Trump can accomplish this task, but I think that he may get some push back by entrenched politicians. We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow. A new national pride will stir ourselves, lift our sights and heal our divisions. Tony: (Re-read highlight) This statement probably has progressives in a bipolar debate with themselves. "He said harness the energies. He means more drilling, more coal, or possible nuclear, but then he said technologies of tomorrow. That means solar and wind power". They are probably all in a tither about this statement. I believe that what President Trump is saying here is that we will use whatever energy means necessary to push our country forward, and that we are not going to hamstring ourselves by limiting what energy sources that we use.
