#6 Distracted Driving with Vanessa Quiles and Norm Salas
Episode in
Miramar FD Radio
Distracted Driving with guests Vanessa Quiles, Trauma Clinical Specialist at Memorial Regional Hospital and Miramar FD Training Captain Norm Salas.

When you text and drive, you’re 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash.
Texting while driving has become the number one driving distraction for many people, especially young inexperienced drivers. Drivers need to be aware of the dangers and keep their attention on the road, not on their cell phones or other mobile devices.
Broward County and the Broward EMS Council developed the Take 5 To Stay Alive. Don’t Text & Drive campaign to help educate the driving public and stop these preventable tragedies. This public service campaign has been seen in local schools, at government meetings, and on local television. The message is county-wide with a strong message: Educate yourself. Share the message with family, friends and co-workers.
Don’t Text & Drive.
If you must answer a text message, take 5 minutes and safely pull off the road.
Thank you, and Stay Safe!

#5 Halloween Safety Tips with Chief Randy Gonzalez
Episode in
Miramar FD Radio
Planning ahead can help make this Halloween a fire-safe one. Taking simple fire safety precautions, like making sure fabrics for costumes and decorative materials are flame-resistant, can prevent fires. During the five-year-period of 2006-2010, NFPA estimates that decorations were the item first ignited in an estimated average of 1,000 reported home structure fires per year. These fires caused an estimated average of six civilian deaths, 53 civilian injuries and $16 million in direct property damage per year.
Check out this Halloween Fire Safety Tip Sheet from NFPA for additional information: http://www.nfpa.org/~/media/Files/Safety%20information/Safety%20tip%20sheets/HalloweenSafetyTips.pdf

#2 No, you DO NOT have Ebola! (but also how to figure out if you might)
Episode in
Miramar FD Radio
Special thanks to Dr. Mazyar Rouhani and to Miramar FD Division Chief, Randy Gonzalez for their participation in today’s show. With all of the news bombarding our collective senses regarding Ebola, it may be hard to know if you have a benign respiratory or gastrointestinal illness that will completely resolve in the next few days, or you have the beginnings of a deadly, exotic malady that warrants your immediate quarantine. Ebola is a truly devastating and terrible disease, doubly so since it has broken out in areas of the world without a sophisticated healthcare system to maximize containment and treatment. But, there are some facts that you need to know which will keep you better informed so that needless anxiety is kept to a minimum and we can all pull through this with our sanity intact. Now, once you realize that you don’t have Ebola, go here: https://www.unicefusa.org/donate/stop-spread-ebola-west-africa-your-gift-matched/18771?gclid=CJjEv8WfjsECFQMT7AodWRUAEA to see how you can help its victims.
