Episode 10: The 15 Minute Guide to Hefeweizens

Welcome to episode 10! Fun beer fact: a beer “Radler” is the name of a mixed-beer drink, which includes beer and lemonade. …gross? Beer of the week: Bitter Brothers Brewing Co. Golden Child Hefeweizen Some Hefeweizen facts: Hefeweizens are under a 3-part beer umbrella: the American Wheat beer, the Belgian Wit, and the German Hefeweizen. All very similar! Hefeweizens are a gateway beer – easy beer for new craft beer drinkers to start with! Americans don’t make Hefeweizens nearly as well as Germany and Europe. We’re working on it, OKAY. Most popular Hefeweizens: Widmer Hefeweizen Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier 3 Floyds Drunk Monk Sierra Nevada Keleweiss Drink one today! -Anthony

Episode 9: The 15 Minute Guide to Pilsners

Welcome to episode 9! Beer of the week: Lost Abbey’s “Duck Duck Gooze.” Brewed once every 3 years (hence the $45/bottle price tag). Phenomenal barrel-aged sour. Pilsners. WHAT ARE THEY?? In this week’s episode, I take on the impossible again and fit in hundreds of years of Pilsner history into a mere 15 minutes. Some highlights: There are 3 types of Pilsners (in level of bitterness): Czech style, European Style, and German style. Pilsners are perhaps the most POPULAR and common beer in Europe (especially Germany). America doesn’t have a strong Pilsner game (especially compared to Europe), but some popular ones include: PBR, Miller Lite, Firestone Pivo Pils (which won Gold at at 2015 Great American Beer Festival Pilsner category). Pilsners are crisp, refreshing, light, and a good hot-weather beer. Although they’re a little more bitter, it’s another great “gateway” beer for people who want to explore craft beer without attempting to brave drinking intense beers like Triple IPA’s and Imperial Stouts. Food pairings: wings/appetizers, bruschetta, sushi, sandwiches, pesto. -Anthony
