Mount Calvary Church Sermons

Today, in Genesis 41, Joseph's long season of waiting finally comes to an end. After thirteen years of suffering and uncertainty, God brings Joseph the turnaround he has been waiting for, taking him from the prison to the palace and revealing how he has been working all along.

Today, in Genesis 40, Joseph finds himself in another pit—this time in a dungeon—where we'll see how he responds to another round of suffering and waiting.

Today, in Genesis 39, we will see how the presence of God enables Joseph to faithfully navigate the changing circumstances of his life.

Today, in Genesis 39, we will see how the presence of God enables Joseph to faithfully navigate the changing circumstances of his life.

Today, we continue in Genesis 37, where Joseph’s dreams seem to give way to a cruel and unexpected turn. Yet even in the darkness, God’s providence is already at work behind the scenes.

As we follow Joseph's life, we will see the remarkable providence of God working through ordinary circumstances, human decisions, and even great evil to accomplish his good purposes. Today, we begin with Genesis 37, where God gives Joseph a glimpse of the story he is writing.

Today, we are wrapping up our sermon series in the Psalms of Ascent—Psalms 120-134—a collection of songs sung by Israelite pilgrims as they traveled up to Jerusalem to worship during the annual feasts. Throughout Psalm 120-133, and including today in Psalm 134, we have regularly come face-to-face with our need for God and His desire for us to depend upon Him. Today, we will see that our dependence on Him brings Him glory. In worship, we find that we not only express that dependence but also the reasons God is worthy of our trust and faith.

Having reached the summit, Psalm 133 calls us to stop and behold something else God has given his people: the good and pleasant gift of dwelling together.

This morning in Psalm 132, we reach the summit of this group of psalms where we'll discover what the pilgrims were ultimately climbing towards.

Psalm 131 is a psalm of experience and encouragement. David begins the psalm by sharing his personal experience with the Lord and what he has learned throughout his life of faith. He ends it by sharing a personal encouragement for Israel, a longing he has for the people he loves.

This morning in Psalm 130, we'll descend into the depths and discover the hope that can only be found in the Lord.

This morning in Psalm 129, we'll hear the song that has sustained God's people through centuries of suffering and discover why it still gives us hope today.

This morning in Psalm 128, we learn what it truly means to be blessed and where true blessing is ultimately found.

This week we hit the midpoint of our journey in Psalm 127. The midpoint is a good spot to pause and reflect on the journey and do some self-reflection. Am I trying to live my life independently of God or am I willingly relying on him?

This morning in Psalm 126, we see the God who has restored His people in the past is still restoring broken lives today.

Last week, God's people celebrated their escape from danger. This week, they sing of the unshakable security of those who trust in the Lord. Though suffering and evil remain for a season, God's people stand fiim because He surrounds them forever.

Last week, Psalm 123 was a prayer for mercy. This week, Psalm 124 is a song of praise. Having cried out to the Lord for help, God's people now look back and celebrate the God who was their help every step of the way.

This morning, we are in Psalm 123, where a suffering pilgrim, overwhelmed by contempt and scorn, lifts his eyes to the Lord and teaches us that when life becomes more than we can handle, our hope is found in the mercy of God.

In Psalm 122 we see the end of the Jewish pilgrimage to Jerusalem celebrating the annual feasts. This psalm provides a glimpse into Old Testament worship, specifically highlighting three key aspects of worship.

Last week, Psalm 120 found us in distress before the journey ever started. Today, in Psalm 121, we are beginning our journey, and we remind ourselves of who God is because He is with us every step of the way.
