The First Amendment encourages U.S. citizens to actively participate in government. But there’s a problematic subset of citizens called lobbyists who use the money to buy their way into our government and push their agendas.  Lobbyists contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars, or more, to the election funds of their preferred political candidates. They hold massive fundraisers that line the pockets of their chosen politicians. In exchange for the funds, politicians serve the special interests of lobbyists. Why is this a problem and just how powerful is lobbying in American politics? Martin Luther King Jr. isn’t the only prominent leader who died fighting for the Black community. Many more were assassinated while serving the same cause. In Part I of The Rise and Fall of the Black Community, you’ll learn more about Black leaders who paid the ultimate price in pursuit of equality. These organizers and activists were so effective that they were seen by racists as threats that needed to be silenced. We must not only honor their work and remember their names but continue carrying out their missions. America’s healthcare system is different from other advanced industrialized countries. It does not provide health care to the country's entire population. Instead, most citizens are covered by a combination of private insurance and various federal and state programs. America’s system is a very impractical way to administer healthcare. First off, the closest thing this country has to government-subsidized healthcare is Medicare. A program that only serves senior citizens.  Most of America’s healthcare system is privatized, meaning almost every involved entity is for-profit. There are issues with co-pays and deductibles where insurance doesn’t cover 100 percent of your bill, leaving you to figure out how to cover the remaining balance. A good example of this is how many elderly people have Medicare but are still working for secondary insurance or to pay off medical debt. In this video, we’ll talk about how healthcare in America is unsustainable. And how even with two jobs and two health insurances, you could still find yourself with a stack of unpaid medical bills. The U.S. President is only one person. Even though he's our country's leader and has a lot of power, he doesn't control everything. In fact, most of what happens in your community as an American citizen happens at a local level—from the schools you attend to the roads you drive on and the police officers who protect you. Your local government oversees all these things, which means voting for people who will make decisions in those areas is extremely important. Their decisions directly affect your life with a huge impact on how happy and safe you feel. The now-deceased Muammar Gaddafi was an enigmatic figure in Middle Eastern politics and world affairs. His 42 years of political reign make him the longest-serving non-royal leader in the history of the modern Arab world. The concept of critical race theory (CRT) has been around for almost half a century, and yet many are new to the idea. Basically, CRT suggests that racism is embedded into our daily lives. People don’t know whether CRT is a combination of anti-racist and social justice standing, or if CRT is a self-destructive concept that rejects American ideals. The effectiveness of policing and police reform has reemerged as a prominent topic of debate in the United States following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Elijah McClain. This has reignited America’s need to apply community policing, wherein the police will live in the community they serve. This will create law enforcement systems with the help of the citizens, with familiarity with their needs and life practices. Due to the current killings mainly of black people, issues of mistrust and insecurity in the police had reemerged.  While it worked out for some, the cons are just as much as the pros. Surprisingly, community policing did not work out well in the south nor did it create trust between the citizens and the police. Mainly because it has been a sudden shift and appeared as if it was a superficial approach to the occurring problem. In this video, we will discuss the ongoing debate about community policing. And will the US ever make this work, will community policing end police brutality or will it favor certain community members? Will making police live in the places they protect to make a difference? As the world evolves into a more complex version of itself year after year, reforming laws to accommodate societal changes becomes more necessary. This includes LGBTQ+, interracial marriage, and abortion rights. However, it’s hard to pass bills that support these causes if the lawmakers are old politicians out of touch with reality. Is allowing old people to run the country an issue? Absolutely. America is becoming more and more sensitive. We have become more divided as a nation now, more than ever. Cancel culture is a self-destructive idea of social justice that could empower minorities and destroy individuals. You could get a lot of hate and get canceled indefinitely just by disagreeing with the majority and sharing what seems to be a juvenile idea - a joke. In my eyes, that is very un-American, so we need to talk about it. Andrew Tate was an influencer followed by millions. He has a ton of negative, but also positive feedback online. So, what’s the problem? Why was he banned? On January 6, 2020, Former President Donald Trump urged his supporters to violently protest against the peaceful transfer of power from one president to another and ruin President Biden’s election victory.  Politics is serious, and the former President was playing God that day as if Trump was above the law. During the Iraqi war, Tens of thousands of American soldiers were deployed. They were reported as casualties in hopes of disarming the WMDs Iraq had in possession and stomping the threat of terrorism in the Middle East. However, Iraq is an oil-rich country with barrels totaling over the billions. There may have been a missed opportunity as the oil price war rages worldwide today and oil production runs low in our backyard. The concept of gender equality has gained momentum in recent years. It’s something we should all strive to achieve. However, hidden agendas within the movement might ironically lead to gender inequality. The movement may inadvertently place men at a lower societal standing rather than making men and women equal. Twisting and cherry-picking statistics to align with a predetermined agenda puts men at risk. America is now a melting pot of race, culture, and religion. But did you know that there was a period in history when America had a very racist culture and either enslaved or inflicted genocide upon its neighbors? Not all history and war crimes are taught in schools. This is why Historical Negationism, or denial of history, is bound to happen. It’s a growing problem in America. When you think of America, one thing that comes to mind is that it’s a rich and powerful country. What we don’t talk about is that this rich and powerful country was built on the backs of slaves. Even prestigious buildings like the Harvard Law School and the White House were built by slaves. The African-American people were the stepping stones that America willingly trampled on. On January 6, 2021, supporters of former President Trump stormed Congress in a bid to violently protest against President Biden’s election victory in what was known as the January 6 United States Capitol Attack. Over ten thousand people stormed onto the capitol grounds, with over a fifth forcing their way into the Senate Chambers. What’s confusing is that many people from all walks of life are still not held accountable for their crimes. The Supreme Court’s historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and jeopardize abortion rights was shocking for most women. The ruling will likely impact single parents most when you factor in housing, food, and transportation costs. Even though Trump news has died down in the past two years, many still can’t shake his influence off, and he remains relevant even today. One such political news shows that Donald Trump was hiding and storing otherwise classified documents in his possession even though he has no authority to keep them. Trump even suggested that they were planted evidence and were framing him for the crime. Police or cops, by definition, are an authority dedicated to enforcing laws and investigating crimes. If the situation warrants, they’re authorized to make arrests. Most of us think we can trust the police with our lives. But why has public opinion sunk to a new low, and why is it that the bad cops are only held accountable when caught in the act?
