Life After PEDs: The Challenges of Moving on From Gear & Competition

What’s up, Nerdz. It’s been a long time, shouldn’t have left you; but I had some mental devils to step to. In this episode I discuss lifer after PEDs and the challenges that come from stepping away from them mentally and physically. There’s nothing special here. Just raw honestly and transparency that I was encouraged to share with you all. I hope you enjoy or find some solidarity within it. As always, thank you for tuning in to the Nerds Who Lift Podcast.

Nerds Who Lift Podcast Presents: BrainPan Amnesty A Poetical Memoir by Nicholas Anderson

*Note: Reading from book starts at 5:50*. What’s up Nerdz, we are back! Well…sorta. Though we have been on hiatus we are not gone I have focused on another project of mine that’s been a life long goal…I wrote a book! A book poetry, but a book nonetheless! It’s called BrainPan Amnesty. It’s currently to print and will be delivered and ready to ship by December 21st, 2021. I figured it would be fun to share this on the podcast with some background on the project and then a few readings of my favorite pieces. So please enjoy this little break from the lifty things and me sharing my more nerdy things. I hope you enjoy and you pick one up. They are $20. Just contact me through the usual socials and I’ll get you set up. Thank you again for tuning in to the Nerds Who Lift Podcast. On this episode I share the history on the book’s development & then I share one of my favorite pieces - “A Lighthouse Off the Shores of Forever”.

Keep Your Hose in Line: Power of Pelvis Position

What's up Nerdz, In this NWL shorty episode, we hit on the power of pelvis position in relation to the rib cage & transverse abdominals in creating optimal intra-abdominal pressure for stronger bracing for all the lifts. Especially in the bench press where the bracing is more illusive in the horizontal and arched position.  Your ribs, obliques, and pelvis act like a hose of water and is essential to keep aligned for optimal water pressure. So keep your hose in line for the strongest power output in bracing for the big lifts.

Listener Submissions Vol.2: Long/Short Term Planning, Cardio Benefits, & Powerlifting Applied to Other Sports

What's up Nerdz! This week is another listener topic suggestion week and we went with three submissions that we felt were well connected and echoed each other's benefits.  Long/Short term planning as a lifter or athlete, cardio implementation (in powerlifting or whatever your chosen sport), & then can powerlifting be applied to other sports.  We talk about identifying the goals to define your long/short term planning, why cardio is important for your health despite the obvious, and then strength-specific sports vs skill-specific sports. How strength can be applied to strengthen skill-specific sports but this the reverse is not as true it becomes evident that compound strength training should be a staple part of any athletes programming regardless of their sport of focus. Meet Day: Meet Selection & Meet Day Etiquette

What's up Nerds, Today we cover an overview of Meet day, both in the selection and then meet day etiquette for not just the lifter but the coach/handler as well.  There is always taught about how to prep and train for a meet but the nuances of meet selection and that what to expect from the experience itself is surprisingly overlooked. So this episode we try to cover these nuances in attempts to help clarify them.  So kick back and tune in to this week's episode of...the Nerds Who Lift Podcast

Listener Topic Submissions: Dating Someone Stronger & Breaking Plateaus

Whats ups Nerdz, We tuned in to the social medias and asked Y'ALL what you wanted to hear from us; of course, our homies came through with some topics to hit.  So we choose the first two who came in: Dating someone stronger & breaking plateaus. We took these two things covered them & then tied them together.  As always we hope you enjoy it. So kick back and tune in to this week's episode of...the Nerds Who Lift Podcast.

The Anabolic Family Tree & Androgen Receptor Flooding Hypothesis

Whats up Nerdz!  This episode comes with a disclaimer. I am no medical professional but I take the time to share some anecdotal knowledge with y'all on the anabolic family trees, and my theory on how doubling up on these families in the same cycle can cause what I think is an oversaturation or a "flooding" of the androgen receptors resulting in a let us call it, walking through mud performance come meet day. I share some anecdotal stories and my reasoning. This is in the hope to spark more conversation around the use use of these compounds and to further find more efficacious, healthier, and holistic applications of their use and debunk the abusive bro myths of "more is better". So kick back and tune in to this week's episode of...the Nerds Who Lift Podcast.  Links to studies referenced in the episode: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10208143/ https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejm199607043350101

Heavy Breathing & Finding Your Worth with The True MDSM Mastermind Mike Delgado

Whats up once again, Nerdz! We are back after our hibernation hiatus. We be relocating cities, jobs, and gyms, and it has been a whirlwind; we are now based in San Diego California and our gym HQ is the infamous Iron Mongers gym of North County. Our new roots here in SD is all owed to Iron Mongers so it is only right we have one of the best coaches around who is based there - Coach Mike Delgado of The True MDSM. Mike found lifting while in recovery and since used is as a foundation to turn his life around and become one of my favorite coaches to work with in his way to communicate and his approach to lifting which is to feel it. Feel it first so then all the theory can assimilate. He helped me with my bench and since helped me refine my deadlift too.  Though he is a great coach, Mike is a real homie. He is in the process of creating a non-profit to help those in recovery and provide the help to information to see your worth that he wished he had and sees the need for in the community.  We talk about the very simple yet profound statement of: If you are unhappy with the state of things, be the answer to the void you see. We hope you enjoy and learn something. Look out for all he has coming because it is bound to something special.  Now lets get back to this thing we call...the Nerds Who Lift Podcast

The Good, The Bad, & The Handsomes: Meet Recaps with Angelo 'The Show' Fortino

What’s up Nerdz! Hi, it me again. Sorry for the small hiatus. Post meet blues is a thing. But we dust it off and get back on that horse and ride into the sunset. With that in mind... I thought it was high time to bring back the amazing, 2 white lights podcast hostin, cigar smokin, deadliftin, spaghetti western cowboy himself - Angelo ‘the Show’ Fortino Angelo was one of my very first guests and on my show, and then 1.5 years ago projected he wanted to try and be the best 83 kilo lifter in the world and hit 1800 total. Well year & a half later this guy is not far off his mark. Winning best lifter at the USAPL mid west prime time, 8/9 and 1713 total, number 4 best 83kg raw lifter of 2020, and number 8 in the usapl raw 83kg all time - I can say he’s made the waves he set out to make and isn’t finished. We recap some of my meet, but that’s not important, we recap his, talk about powerlifting the sport, and his coaching with Mr. Joe of TSA. Hope you enjoy!
