NightSide With Dan Rea

NightSide focuses on a wide variety of issues, political, economic and social. Rea believes that talk radio is the best way for people to communicate their opinions and ideas on what he calls “North America’s Virtual Back Porch.” Rea encourages challenging conversations and diverse ideas combined with respect and tolerance for the opinion of others. But don’t think for a moment that NightSide is anything but provocative, always interesting and at times, passionate and emotional. 642427

Economic Impacts - Part 2

Economic Impacts - Part 2

President Trump is once again threatening tariffs against friendly countries and foes alike! While many are concerned about the President’s latest round of tariff rates that have reached their highest level since 1910, inflation has remained fairly stable this year. While inflation is up, it’s not as high as many economists expected when Trump first started rolling out tariffs. Gregory Stoller, professor at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business joined us to discuss Trump’s tariffs and the current state of the U.S. economy.

Getting Ahead of Antisemitism in Schools

Getting Ahead of Antisemitism in Schools

While overall violent crime in MA is down, antisemitic hate crimes have risen by 20% in the last year. Recently the Massachusetts Special Commission on Combating Antisemitism came out with a report on their findings and recommendations when it comes to K-12 education in the state. The Commission found antisemitism in Massachusetts K-12 public schools to be a “pervasive and escalating problem, with a large number of reported incidents of hate, bullying, harassment and discrimination experienced by families and teachers”. Brookline School Committee member Dr. Jesse Hefter joined Dan to discuss the importance of educating kids about the existence of antisemitism and getting ahead of it!

The Market Basket Drama Continues

The Market Basket Drama Continues

At the end of May, the Market Basket grocery company placed its CEO Arthur Demoulas and a handful of employees on paid leave to investigate rumors that Demoulas and allies may be planning a work stoppage or other disruptions. When suspended executives Tom Gordon and Joe Schmidt made the decision to visit two Market Basket stores in NH to congratulate longtime employees retiring, despite being originally directed to stay away from MB properties as part of their leave, it caused outrage from the board. Tom and Joe claimed their visits were to say goodbye and a job well done to two beloved longtime store managers, nothing more. Tom Gordan and Joe Schmidt joined Dan to discuss the ongoing Market Basket drama. *The Market Basket organization has been notified of this evening’s topics and has been invited to join us on NightSide at some point to discuss*

Newton Residents Still Not Satisfied - Part 1

Newton Residents Still Not Satisfied - Part 1

Residents of the heavily Italian American Nonantum neighborhood in Newton are still not satisfied over the Italian flag lane lines on Adams Street. Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller told Newton residents and listeners on NightSide that the lines were painted over yellow due to safety concerns but said the festival volunteers and residents are welcome to repaint the lines contiguous to the yellow lines before the start of the St. Mary of Carmen Society Festival that begins this week. For many residents, that isn’t good enough with more than 2,200 residents taking up a petition to bring back the originally placed Italian lines before the festival. Gina Fiandaca, former Secretary & CEO for MassDOT & former Commissioner of Transportation for the city of Boston, wrote an open letter calling on the city of Newton and the Newton Mayor to replace the lines in full, not as a side feature. Gina joined us to discuss! *Mayor Ruthanne Fuller has not yet replied to our invitation to join in on the conversation again on NightSide*
