The films discussed include: Charley Varrick (1973), The Italian Job (2003), The Great Muppet Caper (1981), Sneakers (1992), The Score (2001), Flawless (2007), The Big Caper (1953), The Thieves (2012), The Usual Suspects (1995), and The Art of the Steal (2013).

On this special two part episode the members of the Nothing on Netflix Crew try to plan the perfect heist.    In part one of this daring episode, we dive into this genre of film by studying a group of bad heist films. These films get it wrong. Though some of them may not be horrible, they botch many, if not all, of the key elements that make up the perfect heist film. Ep. 14 - Black Rock

You’ve been working really hard lately and you deserve a break. Why not travel with two lifelong friends to a small island affectionally referred to as the Black Rock? Doesn’t sound too appealing? What if I told you Lake Bell, Katie Aselton, and Kate Bosworth were going?      On the latest installment of the Nothing on Netflix Podcast, three members of our team go on a very similar journey. We spend nearly the length of the film discussing why we like this movie and why others might choose to dismiss it. We also speculate on the possible scenarios that might develop if the worlds of Black Rock and The League were to merge.    During our Recently Viewed Segment we discuss: Snow on tha Bluff (2011) God Bless America (2011) World’s Greatest Dad (2009) Bobcat Goldthwait: You Don’t Look the Same Either (2012) Louie (season 1) Alan Partridge (2013) Saxondale (complete series) Not on Netflix: Snowpiercer (2014)

Ep. 13 - Oldboy (Both Films)

In 2003 a Korean film named Oldboy was released upon the world. It was the story of a man kidnapped and held captive only to be mysterious released 15 years later. Upon his release the film became a quest for answers and revenge. Then nearly 10 years later, Spike Lee and Josh Brolin teamed up to retell this tale to American audiences. Currently, both films are available to stream on Netflix.   Just how successful was Mr. Lee with his reimagining of this tale of vengeance? Was the original Oldboy even worthy of a remake? On this episode of the Nothing on Netflix Podcast we discuss both versions of the film in a side-by-side comparison. Download the episode to hear our evaluation.    During our Recently Viewed Segment we discuss:  The Battered Bastards of Baseball (2014)  Harry Dean Stanton - Partly Fiction (2012)  Olympus Has Fallen (2013)  Wild Style (1983)  Maria Bamford - The Special Special Special (2012)  Someone Marry Barry (2014)  Wolf Creek 2 (2014)  Ritual (2012)      Show Theme Song: All intro and outro music was created and composed by friend of the podcast Daniel Padgett. Ep. 12 - World War Z & All the Zombie Movies

There are so many zombies, but only one Brad Pitt! On this week’s episode we discuss the mega zombie hit World War Z. However before we could watch that film, we noticed nearly 50 zombies titles currently available for viewing on Netflix Instant. So, we decided to watch as many as possible.    Let the Zombie Apocalypse begin! On the latest Nothing on Netflix Podcast we attempt to slash through roughly half of Netflix’s zombie selections to offer our recommendations and warnings within this sub-genre that is spreading fasting than Umbrella’s T-Virus.   The episode may be a tad long, but we discuss nearly 20 zombie films before the credits roll. Zombie films such as: Day of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Survival of the Dead, Pontypool. Night of the Creeps, Fido, Gangs of the Dead, Dead Heat, The Dead UnDead, Gallowwalkers, Zombie Night, I Sell the Dead, Severed: Forest of the Dead, Dead Snow, Paranorman, The Returned, and World War Z.

Ep. 11 - Hellraiser Movie Marathon

One day in late June two members of the Nothing on Netflix crew had a crazy idea, watch all 9 Hellraiser films in one evening and podcast about the experience. This week’s episode is the result of that idea.     For roughly 16 hours, two brave souls, in their never-ending and morbidly ridiculous search for pleasure, watched all 9 Hellraiser films via Netflix streaming. Following each film, the Nothing on Netflix crew took a few moments to reflect on what they  watched, attempted to make sense of each sequel, and assessed the quality of the series. What will be the psychological effects on the individuals embarking on such a journey? By the end of the podcast will our hosts have solved the Lament Configuration? Or will they become Cenobites with peeled back eyelids and melted brains? Will their souls be torn apart? Listen and learn!     Movies discussed:  Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Hellraiser IV: Bloodline, Hellraiser V: Inferno, Hellraiser VI: Hellseeker, Hellraiser VII: Deader, Hellraiser VIII: Hellworld, Hellraiser: Revelations

Ep. 10 - Much Ado About Nothing (Joss Whedon)

We all have them - movies we know we should watch, but usually skip over. These are the films we know we would probably enjoy, if only we could bring ourselves to click play. This week’s episode explores two such films that have haunted the Nothing on Netflix crew: Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing (2012) and Andrew Bujalski’s Computer Chess (2013).    Though we spend most of our time chatting about Whedon’s take on Shakespeare, we declare if these two films are required viewing or acceptable skipping.    Before all that, we introduce two special guests to the Nothing on Netflix team as we compare our recently viewed playlist:   Eddie Murphy - Delirious (1983)  Columbo (tv series)  The Adventures of Milo and Otis (1989)  My Cat From Hell (tv series)  & Frasier vs Breaking Bad vs Star Trek Next Generation

Ep. 8 - Star Trek Into Darkness

Join us, lens flares and all, as we revisit Star Trek: Into Darkness. The team Abrams follow-up to the surprisingly wonderful 2009 Star Trek film. We spend many minutes debating the merits of this sequel and if it is worthy of a re-watch. Though before we boldly journey into the dark, we spend a bit of time with Michael Bay and the absurdity that is Pain and Gain.    We also share some quick thoughts concerning a number of Netflix offerings.  Films: Red State, 100 Bloody Acres - TV Series: Legit - Stand Up Specials: Sklar Brothers (What Are We Talking About?), Myq Kaplan (Small, Dork, and Handsome), John Mulaney (New in Town), Jim Jefferies (Fully Functional) - Documentaries: Beware Mr. Baker, Far Out Isn’t Far Enough, Punk in Africa, Never Sleep Again     Wow! That is a lot.

Ep. 7 - Pryor, Wilder, & the 1980s

We have gone back in time to revisit one of the best comedy duos in cinematic history. Though, spread out over 15 years, Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder only appeared in four films together, their chemistry and comedic delivery is unmatched. Currently, Netflix streaming is offering the middle two films: Stir Crazy (1980) and Hear No Evil, See No Evil (1989). We spend the second half of this week’s podcast highlighting why this pair’s movies are not to be missed.  We spend the first half of the episode discussing a handful of films that many consider cult classics from the 1980s. The additional films discussed are:   The Octagon (1980) featuring Chuck Norris  Dead Heat (1988) featuring Joe Piscopo No Holds Barred (1989) featuring Hulk Hogan Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive (1986)

Ep. 6 - The Dirties

The unfortunate circumstance surrounding The Dirties is that some will choose to completely ignore this film due to its subject matter. The reality is everyone should see this film. The topic isn’t a pretty one and it doesn’t really pair well with popcorn, yet it manages to balance its socially relevant narrative with entertaining filmmaking until the last frame. On this week’s podcast we discuss Matt Johnson’s film, his likable protagonists, bullying, and the disturbingly dark path this movie slowly escorts the viewer down.  We also recommend a few films and warn against others: Milius (documentary) Here Comes the Devil (2013) How to Be a Man (2013) Ass Backwards (2013) Lucky (2011) Godzilla movies

Ep. 5 - Safety Not Guaranteed (Duplass Brothers Films)

Our latest podcast explores the wonderful acting work of Mark Duplass and his collaborative writing and directing efforts with his brother Jay Duplass. At the moment, Netflix offers four films connected to this prolific duo. We dedicated this week’s podcast to three of them: The Puffy Chair The Do-Deca-Pentathlon Safety Not Guaranteed    Along the way, we mention the fourth film currently available for streaming, Jeff Who Lives At Home, and Mark’s most well known role as Pete from the FX series The League. In fact, the mere mentioning of Eskimo brothers nearly derailed the show. Luckily, we were able to right the ship and stay focused.   At the beginning of the show we share our recent viewing habits:  Women Who Kill (stand-up) Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus (2013) Septien (2011) Tabloid (documentary) The Punk Singer (documentary) A Fantastic Fear of Everything (2012)

Ep. 4 - We Are What We Are, Electrick Children

Don't leave me hanging on the telephone! Two of the best films currently on Netflix Instant feature the same two amazing actors: Julia Garner and Bill Sage. As a result, we decided to dedicate this week’s podcast to their two films: We Are What We Are and Electrick Children. On the surface, these films might appear vastly different. In Electrick Children Garner plays a teenage girl raised in a sheltered fundamentalist Mormon community, and she believes she is carrying the son of God - conceived through immaculate conception. On a slightly darker note, We Are What We Are features Garner and Sage as members of a socially withdrawn family and their unusual ritualist practices. Both films find Garner in a state of awakening as she is forced to accept or reject her role within these families. The captivating Bill Sage plays a similar role in both films, however, his performances are strikingly different. Additionally, we share a few possible recommendations based on our recent viewing habits:Rapture-Palooza (extended discussion)Mortified Nation (documentary)Sweetwater

Ep. 3 - Bad Milo

Soothe your inner demon by listening to this week’s Nothing on Netflix podcast dedicated to Bad Milo! Ken Marino and Peter Stormare are at their best, taking the film’s subject matter, and butt-baby, head-on. Enhanced by a solid supporting cast of Gillian Jacobs, Patrick Warburton, and Stephen Root, Bad Milo! deserves your attention. Check out the podcast for all the our thoughts and reactions. Along the way we discuss a wide range of recently viewed titles: stand-up comedy, horror, drama, cooking shows, and an 80s classic. There is something for everyone, I guarantee it.  Gary Gulman – In This Economy?, Tom Segura – Completely Normal. Rob Delaney – Live at the Bowery Ballroom, The Mind of a Chef with David Chang, Mud, Contracted, Over the Top
