Laura Bytheway is a Post Narc Life Coach, Podcaster, Speaker and genuinely a woman who is helping women retrain their mind out of old habits and guiding them to new behaviors. We met at the PodGals Experience and I knew we had to talk. I read her Instagram posts and each one awakens experiences. On October 20, she posted this on her Instagram and my epiphany began. Like use their own kids as pawns in a divorce…Or run around telling everyone lies about you just to make it seem like you’re the bad guy. But here’s the ONE thing that they are absolutely UNWILLING to do no matter what…That you can start doing RIGHT NOW to get freedom, create peace and start building the life you actually want. FEEL the emotions you have been unwilling to feel. Face the grief, the loss the shame, the emptiness. Allow them in your body without numbing, deflecting, avoiding or make them go away. That’s right, it’s that simple. You just feel your heavy, painful emotions. Just be willing to allow them. A narcissist will literally do anything but that. But this is where your true power begins. I know when I am alone in my thoughts I have moments of epiphany. These moments can easily be used to plan things out, they can also be used to validate what I may be wanting to work on. In life, we know more or less when we will be born, unless there’s a special circumstance. In death, we never know. I was celebrating my birthday a week ago and I am celebrating with a different perspective because I want to embrace my friends and family in every gathering for the future. With the passing of Susie and Walter, I have come to realize that we never know when we will leave this earth. I just started watching the Mary Tyler Moore Show and I’m hooked. As a child I remember waiting for these shows to come on it was 1970 I was four years old but I knew what was on and looked forward to what was on television. But back in 1970 if you missed an episode you missed it. Now I know where to find it and I can watch an entire series and binge watch everything. So my question for you is which series have you watched from beginning to end? What did you enjoy? And where did it take you. There was an estate sale across the street on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was really busy. There was traffic coming from both directions and people were walking on sidewalks because there was no where to park. During this commotion, I saw two puppies, trying to dodge cars, run away from people and they looked really scared. I have had situations where my dogs are barking, and I’ve had to interrupt the episode and start at a point where I can delete the barking of the dogs. Things happen, people knock on the door, and my dogs have to defend their territory, but if someone is opening a soda can or whipping up eggs, or walking away from the phone or flushing a toilet, these are not acceptable. This episode deals with toxic positivity. It’s everywhere you look. On shirts, on wall art, in television shows and movies, everywhere. I grew up with toxic positivity, it was a constant in my childhood and young adult life. I think Gen Xers have dealt with toxic positivity, and now can recognize it for what it’s worth. Life is not always “good vibes only.” I’m 56 now and I can see it. I can recognize it and I can get past it. This episode has played in my head for days. I watched BEEF on Netflix with Ali Wong and I related to Amy’s character on so many levels. I could see how George her husband character in the show shut her up with his strong sense of toxic positivity. So many people in my life shut me down and hushed me up with their toxic positivity. So many times I was told you’re crazy, calm down, and really calm and to look for a silver lining. Being told that things happen for a reason or to accept it because things could be worse were the adult’s way of coping. This is a grandmother story about alterations done on clothing. A quarter inch was always the standard for those individuals who were never happy with the initial fitting. There were many men and women who assigned my grandmother and extra layer of work. They left happily as they gave her more of a task to their garment. She happily looked at their article of clothing as it hung in the hallway. A quarter of an inch was so minuscule but they asked for the extra service. These people were told the task would be completed. They felt validated in how amazing the garment was after the quarter inch was altered and when my grandmother told them that they were right…a quarter inch made all the difference.
