In the past we have talked about getting your work out there, we’ve talked about zines, and we’ve talked about books. But we’ve never discussed what actually goes into producing a zine. Dan Domme guest hosts in the 54th episode of Pdexposures bringing his expertise of zine production to the table. Dan has produced three different (and equally bizarrely named) zines; the most recent which you can still purchase at DommePhoto.com, though quantities are very limited. We discuss production, the ethics of what you should charge, what a zine is exactly, different printers, methods of printing, and even selling/distribution of your zine online. When Tony and Nate started the Pdexposures Podcast over two years ago it was on a whim and done very quickly without much regard to form, quality, or substance. We made it through another year. We don’t know how, but we made it. 2014 has been a year of terrible events, horrible news and imploding film companies, but somehow we’ve struggled on to the end and survived, and now we look towards 2015 with a sense of optimism and/or dread. But before that, we’ve got New Year’s parties to go to, so this short intermission is our way of saying thanks for sticking with us and a reminder to join us for the first episode of 2015 in two weeks’ time! It’s our last podcast of the year, and as we face down the epic array of Christmas parties, egg nog, turkey and mince pies we’re going to have to get through to make it to 2015, we decided we needed a break – an audio-visual distraction. We’re guessing you’ll probably need one too. After all, this is a time of family get-togethers, food comas and repeats on television, so what do you do when no one in the house can bring themselves to move? That’s right, you put on a DVD. So here, at long last, is the Pdexposures-approved list of photography-related documentaries. Some of these are on Netflix. Some are on Youtube. And some are available through Amazon Prime, meaning that you’ve still got time to buy them for Nate if you haven’t got him a Christmas present yet (hint hint).
