But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 Do you remember as a child what it was like enduring the weeks and days before Christmas? It was the anticipation that made Christmas, Christmas. Yet why does “the most wonderful time of year” always seem to leave us wanting more these days? We anticipate the gifts, music, nostalgia and traditions, but the presents and parties are never enough. So what do we really need? What about the people closest to us – what do they really need? That same dynamic of anticipation is what made the first Christmas so extraordinary. For generations, men and women had been waiting anxiously for the birth of their Messiah, with no assurance that they would live to see him. And like us, they probably wondered, “Is this really going to happen? After all, God has been silent for years? Has he forgotten about us?” Then Christ appeared and the soul felt its worth. When was the last time the anticipation and celebration of Christmas thrilled you? I want to invite you to join us this Christmas at PCC as we interact with the timeless carol O Holy Night, and with the characters of the original Christmas story in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke to discover the difference His birth made in that world … and in ours today. Our prayer is that with each week, our growing anticipation of celebrating God coming to earth would place in us an utterly renewed sense of hope for our lives as well as for the lives of our neighbors and colleagues. We have been praying and planning for months for this series and I cannot wait to walk into it. Between now and the series kickoff is Thanksgiving, which gives us all a chance to pause and reflect of the incredible blessings in our lives. You need to know that behind my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family, you are right up there as a gift of grace in my life. To gather weekly as we do, and align our hearts and minds to the throne of grace, to walk together in community is such a blessing, for which I am grateful. To be entrusted with our vision and mission, stewarding the Gospel and centering our lives on its truth, well, that is grace upon grace. Happy Thanksgiving, PCC! May the grace, power, and shalom of God rest on you and your homes this Thanksgiving season. I love being your pastor!

Luke 5:1-11 5 One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee,[a] great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. 2 He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon,[b] its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” 5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” 6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! 7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. 8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” 9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
