Financial literacy in the Ghanaian household |with Irene Baidoo

In this episode Pina and Winnie talk about all things money with their friend Irene Baidoo, who is on her journey towards financial freedom....but first what are some of the bad financial habits that have been inherited growing up in the Ghanaian household? The ladies talk about the money mistakes they have picked up along the way, their attitude toward money and how they are choosing to act differently compared to the new generation...and of course, how to get started in the STOCK MARKET. The money talk is still seen as a taboo in the Ghanaian community, but hopefully this episode can provide a good a starter and give you the confidence you need to start your own journey towards financial freedom

12. Christianity and the struggle for perfection | with Anna Awuah

Should your pastor be a perfect human before he stands on the pulpit? Why do church folks struggle with showing vulnerability ? Is the gospel still relevant for millennials?\nPina and Winnie discuss faith and Christianity with guest co-host Anna Awuah. Anna is a PK (pastor\'s kid), she\'s a bona fide lover of God and is on a mission to bring the gospel to the millennial generation and to convey the message in a way that can resonate with her peers. \nAccording to her many people leave church because they experience \"church hurt\", broken relationships and disappointment from folks that you look up to as brothers and sister in Christ. In her view we should try our best to separate the man from the divine. But, we ask, how do we treat church leaders such as Carl Lentz from Hillsong, or relationship experts such as Derrick Jaxn who exhibit behaviours that are not in line with the message they preach? We discuss this and more in this new episode of Pizza and Palmwine! Head over to our Facebook and Instagram pages @pizzaandpalmwine to tell us what you think. You can also reach us via email at pizzaandpalmwine@gmail.com. Be sure to share this episode with your friends and family, or anybody that needs to hear a real conversation about faith, Christianity and the struggles with keeping a certain image

11. Posted - Sending kids back to Africa with Winnie Frimpong

Being "posted" is a practice that is found in various African communities in the diaspora, whereby migrant parents decide to send their child back to the continent to be raised by a caretaker (usually a family member). Pina and Winnie are both "posted children", having left Italy for Ghana as a young age and having to grown up away from their parents. In this episode they discuss their experience and how it has shaped their identity, including the emotional trauma, how it shows up in romantic relationships and the difficulties in having to build a daughter/parent bond. They also reflect on the separation from their caretakers back in Ghana and the ambiguous relationship they have with them. How is parenthood defined? Who gets to be called "mum" or "dad"? Can you still be a parent from abroad? How long is it too long to "post a child"?

008: The Taboo around Sexual Assault in African Communities| Stacey Foxx

In this episode Stacey shares her story as a survival of sexual assault at a young age. Stacey bravely posted her story on facebook and in doing so she named her aggressor thus breaking the code of silence that many victims feel they need to uphold in order to avoid scandal in the Ghanaian community. Her story is not unique unfortunately, but it's still a taboo in many African Communities. We hope that by speaking up, her story will inspire more people to come forward and break a culture of silence that only protects the perpetrator and never the victim. At her request we have agreed to censor some of the names of the people involved in the story. #metoo

#3 - Grieving Death

Maureen and Pina talk about the process of grieving both in the Ghanaian and Italian community. Although it was a somber and somewhat heavy topic, they discuss aspects of the cultural that they find quite interesting and bizzarre, such as "the wailing and rolling on the floor". Pina discloses some intimate details of her dad's passing and the meaning of "belonging to the ancestors". This episode was recorded following the death of Chadwick Boseman and although it was "a long time ago" according to social media timeline, it gives us an opportunity to discuss the topic of mourning and "truly moving on".
