500: The End
Episode in
Plain Zero
Travis here and as I write this, I’m still processing that this is actually over. How does one write a blog to sum up the end of 10 plus years of their life? A lot can happen in 10 years.
When we started this podcast, I had just moved back in with my parents, which was a general low point for me. But that move would put me into a position where I was living back on the same street I had lived on with my life time best friend, Nick. With some time to kill and a desire to spend more time with my friends, I would discuss the idea of starting a podcast with Nick and his brothers: James and Aaron. While James had no real time for it at that moment, he was helpful in getting us started, but Aaron was game to join us on the show. Feeling like we might have needed a fourth, he recruited his long time friend, Alejandro. So we had a cast and we had a broad idea based on our shared love of movies. What we didn’t have was equipment, but I would rectify that by using work earned rewards to acquire 4 microphones and and a rinky dink sound board. And just like that, we were off and running. James would eventually have more time and join us on the show.
Since then, all of you who listened would be privy to the details of our lives and our takes on film. You would get to see how we are drunk and get an intimate peek into our relationships. You would all be there as I went from being single, to a boyfriend, to a husband, and to a father. You were there for the highs of our lives, and then the lows. We endured a pandemic and then we would have our lowest moment as we lost Aaron. This was a loss none of us were prepared for and it absolutely broke our hearts. I honestly wasn’t sure we would come back from that. To say that in many ways, he was the heart of this show and a driving factor, would be an understatement. Then Nick and James asked if we were ready to get started again. They, rightfully, convinced me that continuing would be the best way to honor him and so we moved forward. Alejandro or Shred, would eventually leave the show and not too long after that, we would lose him, as well.
Time is a funny thing, though, and as life would keep moving forward, we would find that we had less of it. Scheduling our records would become tougher. We’d start missing weeks. Those weeks would turn into months and it felt like the show had already possibly ended. After having a discussion with the guys, we found that we had all come to the conclusion separately that perhaps the show’s time had passsed. Knowing we were only 7 episodes away from 500 episodes, I had gotten the guys to agree to recording those last 7 episodes and doing a proper goodbye with our 500th episode. That brings us to this, if you’re reading this, you’re either about to or you’ve already listened to our last episode. I’d like to thank you all for being a part of this journey with us. I would like to thank James and Nick, because there’s no show without them and I’m grateful that they agreed to give us all 7 more episodes. I’d like to thank my wife, Tahnee for supporting me on this and even stepping in as a co-host when covid hit and we sheltered in place. I dedicate this show to Aaron’s memory, the show wasn’t just about our love of movies, but also our love of him.
I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I had a podcast.
Jesus, does anyone?
