Blood Brain Barrier Part 2
Episode in
Podcast – Improved Health
We can help to improve the blood brain barrier by helping the gut barrier in many cases. We will want to stop giving the body what is doesn’t want but is getting and give the body what it does want but isn’t getting.
To see what you might eliminate, look at some Cyrex Labs test profiles that look for foods your body is reacting badly to. Also there is reason to search out GMO and non pesticide, non herbicide and non antibiotic raised foods.
Keep your glutathione and vitamin D levels up. Avoid foods and chemicals that your body has trouble with. Use some supplements like RepairVite and Butyric Acid.
If you get this dialed in properly, you will notice the nice smooth improvement in your energy and general health.

Your Own Worst Enemy or Akrasia
Episode in
Podcast – Improved Health
Why we are often our own worst enemies has been pondered for at least a couple of millenia. Aristotle coined the word akrasia for acting against your own best interest. Plato and Socrates also weighed in on this topic. Plato figured you should be able to master your impulses whereas Aristotle figured that we have to live with a certain amount of conflict.
Seems that Aristotle was right when we think of the battle between the limbic system and the neocortex. The limbic system is very much concerned with the here and now and thinks the future is an abstract concept. The neocortex thinks a lot about the future and thinks about how actions today will look down the road.

I mention this because I think it is helpful to have an idea about how the brain works. I think your best defense is to give as many tools to your neocortex as you can with learning and support from like-minded individuals.

Change is Coming
Episode in
Podcast – Improved Health
Sometimes people tell me they are NOT going to make any changes in their diet or lifestyle. It is important to remember that change IS coming and it is best to direct that change in our favor. This is true whether we are talking about health, money and other areas of our lives too. To say it another way, change is coming. What do we want that change to look like?

23andme Update Fall 2015

23andme is again offering some clinical information along with its genetic gathering service. While we applaud 23andme for helping to get genetic information to the public, we recommend a strong dose of caution when considering the genetic contribution of any specific disease state. While 23andme provides information on 3 variations or BRCA or a breast cancer gene, the gold standard is closer to 670 variations leaving us to wonder why 23andme would bother giving such deficient information.
We do like the option of connecting services like Promethease, Genetic Genie and Nutrahacker with 23andme raw data. This gives an end user some powerful tools to examine their own genetic tendencies.
At OVitaminPro.com we continue to offer counseling for those trying to understand key genetic information. We can help with basic information that can direct you to a diet and supplement program more likely to be beneficial for you and your physiology. For serious diseases like muscular dystrophy and other, you will still want to consult with a medical geneticist.

MTHFR is an important gene. Defects in this gene have been linked to numerous important diseases like breast cancer, brain development issues like autism and ADHD and many more. I explain in this podcast that we should know about MTHFR but this gene does not operate in a vacuum and it is vital to understand about 50 other genes around it that influence your health in these pathways too.

We review another genetic case history and make recommendations for supplements and diet based on clinical presentation and genetic patterns. We begin with talking about neurotransmitter support, moving to methylation, detox and endocrine support. We make some specific supplement recommendations that should help calm down symptoms of anxiety, depression, some cycle support etc. Hopefully we will be able to dial back some of the meds she is using to try to regulate her symptoms.
I am working on setting this site up to make it easier to get a transcript and also to make an appointment to review your genetic reports. For now just call 877-465-0844.

In this case we analyze the results of a person who has had two rounds of chemo for recurring breast cancer. We find clues as to what is making her cancer susceptible. Her actual profile is accessible with the link above. We are recommending things like DIM, NAC, tocotrienols, phosphatidylserine and a switch from methyl B12 to hydroxy B12 along with the addition of lithium orotate. She was already taking curcumin and vitamin D3 and was working on a low fat, low carb diet.
To get your results analyzed, follow this instructions in the first couple of podcasts on this site and call 877-465-0844.

We begin looking at actual cases to see what kind of real information we can glean from a nutrahacker report and how this relates to real life. In this case history we find reasons to add things like hydroxy B12, avoid methyl B12, add lithium orotate, continue with NAC, add TravaCor and DIM.
The carrier profile shows heterozygous for hemochromatosis which can lead to iron overload. We add IP6 to chelate the excess iron. She will need follow-up blood testing to make sure we have the IP6 levels appropriate for her.

Intro to Genetic Profiles
Episode in
Podcast – Improved Health
You may have heard something about MTHFR gene testing. As important as this and closely related genes are, this is just a small part of the picture and to move your health forward, you will need more information than that. In this podcast I explain how to get personalized genetic information in a form you can use from inexpensive sources. You will first need to get your DNA analyzed by 23andme.com. Once you have that information, you will go to nutrahacker.com and link accounts to get your personalized supplement information. You may also want your carrier (carrier for diseases like cystic fibrosis for example) and possible drug reaction probabilities. The cost at this time is $99.00 for the 23andme and $37.00 for the nutrahacker supplement report. New sites are springing up that also offer this type of information but this is one way you can go about it today.
