Winter Listening: Revisiting ‘I’m Glad I’m Me’ with James Nicholson, Lyn Worsley & Leigh Hat
Episode in
Podcast – Resilience Radio
What if the secret to raising happy, resilient kids fit inside a picture book about a boy who wishes he were a cat? Or a bird? Or pretty much anything but himself? That is at the heart of ‘I’m Glad I’m Me’, the new children’s book from author James Nicholson — and the subject of our latest conversation. Host Leigh Hatcher sits down with James and clinical psychologist and resilience expert Lyn Worsley to unpack a story that sounds simple but lands hard: a little boy tries on one animal after another, chasing the feeling that someone else’s life must be better, until he finally discovers he’s glad to just be himself. It’s a message for kids, sure. But in an age where social media is engineered to make everyone else look cooler, happier and more perfect than we feel, none of us are immune to the comparison trap. This one is for the grown-ups too.

Podcast – Resilience Radio
It is soon to be ‘that’ time of year again and the HSC is going to be fast upon us … and we are revisiting a timely podcast about the ‘HSC and the ATAR’. All too often, the HSC is a stressful time for students and for their parents and families also. In this podcast, we hear from Clinical Psychologists – Dr Mathew Pfeiffer and Michelle Wotton from The Resilience Centre as they shed light on the difference between ‘ambition’ and ‘perfectionism’, when it comes to working towards a goal. They bring a wealth of experience and a passion for helping students and their families to do the whole HSC experience (and not just during, but importantly life afterwards) well …

Rekindling Hope – Part #2: Revisiting Hope with Clinical Psychologist Dr John Burns
Episode in
Podcast – Resilience Radio
It was exactly two years ago, when Clinical Psychologist Dr John Burns from The Resilience Centre, sat down with Leigh Hatcher, in a conversation exploring the possibility of people rekindling hope after experiences of adversity. Now, we again bring together John and Leigh, only this time – it is a unique conversation about John’s own adverse experience – his current journey of a manageable, but not curable, diagnosis of cancer that came shortly after the recording of their first podcast together. John bravely shares with Leigh (and all of us) his personal story about what it takes to rekindle hope in the face of adversity that was unanticipated and unimaginable. The Resilience Centre, as a team, wants to express gratitude to their special colleague John, for making the physical time and emotional space to record such a meaningful podcast for all of us to grow from.
