G+20, Activist Pushing for a Green future
Earlier this week the G20 were discussing the financial future of the world but a little further south was another conversation, contemplating the world’s environmental future. The Rio +20 conference started this past Wednesday and started off as a series of compromises on environmental goals for the sake of preserving economic gains. Some organizations have not taken so kindly to this decision, among them being Greenpeace. Here to grant some insight into the Greenpeace stance and elaborate on the activist perspective on Rio+20, we are being joined by Phil Kline, a senior ocean campaigner for Greenpeace, who is in Brazil coordinating a lot of the actions attempting to challenge the Rio consensus.

Afghan war from the Pacifist Perspective
Discussions about Afghanistan have discussed many military solutions, however little attention is given to discussions for non military solutions. In order to grant insight on this subject, we had a chance to talk to Dr. Hakim. Hakim is a peace activist and medical doctor, originally from Singapore, who came to Afghanistan about a decade ago to work in the refugee camps there. The Afghan people gave him the name "Hakim," a term of endearment which means "wise person" and physician. He is mentor to and translator for the Afghan Peace Volunteers.

A March to Question Nato's Role in Afghanistan
The Afghanistan conflict has been a major sticking point in US foreign policy and by the most recent projections, we can be stuck there for at least another 10 years trying to build up the country. In an effort to bring the debate about our involvement in Afghanistan to the national level, we are being joined by Buddy Bell. He has been involved in Voices' campaigns in the United States for 7 years. In 2009, he helped set up one of the first ever drone protests outside Creech Air Force Base Nevada. Conflict over Congo Resources
When I woke up this morning, my phone buzzed, I jumped out of bed and, well, here I am. But until a couple years ago I never would have known that the mineral used to make my phone buzz is the same mineral that has been fueling the world's largest war. Here to grant insight into how this exactly is possible, we are being joined by Kambale Musavuli, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo is a human rights activist, Student Coordinator and National Spokesperson for the Friends of the Congo. Listening Across the Conflict Zone
When we think about war around the world we seem to be disconnected from what is really going on and the human costs. In an effort to put a face to the global population a series of conversations are hosted through the efforts of people such as Susan Perretti so people across the conflicts can know each other. Susan is a retired journalist and editor from East Setauket. She is also a longtime activist and a member of the North Country Peace Group, Pax Christi Long Island and other peace and social justice organizations. She currently serves on the international working group for Global Days of Listening, a project that provides opportunities (via monthly Skye and teleconference sessions) for ordinary people across the world to connect and converse with one another about the wish to live without wars.

Exploring Queens Immigrant Roots
I go on runs around Hempstead quite often, it is my way of exploring the area, finding good places to visit and maybe a bite to eat. However even I cannot say I really "know" the area. This is true for many people, regardless of their community. One community in particular has such a diverse and historic culture that it would be near impossible to understand. I am of course referring to Queens, a borough which I am still learning about. Here to talk about an attempt to grant insight to this lesser known borough, we are being joined by Amy Paul, she has worked with South Asian Youth Action, Culture Project, and Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights. She is also a 2011 Coro Immigrant Civic Leadership Project Fellow. She is here to discuss "The People's Walking Tour" an immigration-inspired walking tour through the back streets and working streets of NYC immigrant communities. The walking tour will be a partnership with area CBOs and rooted in the social justice struggles of immigrant communities.

Forecasting US Forein Policy Debates
During the Primaries a lot of back and forth took place about everything from the economy to energy production but in those debates the closest we got to foreign policy was a debate about Israel. She assists him in the research and programmatic agenda of the Center. She started by researching and writing about international security and U.S. defense policy. Previously, she was an associate at the Cohen Group, a global business consulting firm founded by former Secretary of Defense William Cohen. US and China's battle for Development Influence
It seems like China and US are constantly vying with each other for control of the global market. Whether it be competing for resources or global clout, China and the US seem to be butting heads on a number of issues. Is this because China and the US have missions inherently in conflict or is this because the Chinese and US development goals have become so similar? Here to shine some light onto this conversation we are being joined by Connor Savoy, the assistant director of the Project on U.S. Leadership in Development at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC and author of a report titled “US-China parallel Development Goals”
