Happy First Birthday Podcast Parables!  One year ago, the vision was born to create a podcast that would tell the stories of the Bible in a unique and special way. So, welcome, glad you’re here! Today, we will take a look at Cornelius, a Roman centurion, and labeled the first GENTILE, or non-Jewish convert to The Way. James E. Kiefer says, “In New Testament times, an estimated ten per cent of the population of the Roman Empire consisted of God-fearers, Gentiles who recognized that the pagan belief in many gods and goddesses, who according to the myths about them were given to adultery, treachery, intrigue, and the like, was not a religion for a thoughtful and moral worshipper, and who had accordingly embraced an ethical monotheism--belief in One God, who had created the world, and who was the upholder of the Moral Law. She is always portrayed in artworks and commentary as a holy woman, and that may well have been true. But she also sounds like one of those large-bosomed, generous-hearted women loved by all. She was used by God because she used what she had. Her kindness changed a whole community. Even if that’s all we know for sure, today, friends. That’s something we can absolutely take with us. He taught Saul as a young man and he used his voice to calm the storm that raged in the wake of the Apostles' wild behavior after Jesus ascended and left them the Holy Spirit. Gamaliel had the wherewithal to step into the fray and provide some much needed insight and perspective, even when his own beliefs, generational history and fellow countrymen did not agree.
