For further practice

5.- For further practice: (mp3 sound) If you want to practise more English with the help of songs, check out this web I have found. You have to look for a song you like and then decide a level for the game. The lyrics of the song will be shown at the same time you're listening to it. However, the lyrics will have gaps so you fill them with the words missing. It is a fun way of learning or improving pronunciation and it also helps you practise for listening tests. This is the end of my project. I hope you liked it or, at least, it could help you practise your English.

1.- b) proverb : because it is a commonly said sentence. 2.- b) were : the song says "was" but it is wrong, the correct word would be "were". 3.- d) narrow : wide means "ancho/a" whereas narrow means "estrecho/a". 4.- You tossed it in the trash : there are several ways to say it but, this is the one that appears in the song. 5.- A grenade : according to the sentence "I'd catch a grenade for ya". 6.- A train : according to the sentence "I'd jump in front of a train for ya". 7.- c) anything : "you know I'd do anything for ya". 8.- c) ache : both of them mean "dolor". 9.- Bullets : when you fire a gun, you shoot bullets ("balas"). 10.- To be numb means to be unable to feel anything : "Beat me 'till I'm numb" means beat me until it hurts so much that I am not able to feel anything ("golpéame hasta que esté entumecido"). 11.- In hell : the devil lives in hell so when the song refers to it as where the girl is from, you assume she is evil (bad). 12.- Los frenos de mi coche : you use the brakes of your car when you want to stop or to slow down. (When it's said "You smiled in my face, then ripped the brakes out my car" it is taking a figurative meaning, actually saying she's nice to his face and then trashes him behind his back). 13.- c) Second conditional : "if my body was on fire, you'd watch me burn down in flames". It is a second conditional because it is an hypothetical situation in the present, not past nor future. As you can see, in the if part it is used the past simple while the consecuence part uses would ('d) + the base form of the verb. 14.- Lies : when you don't tell the truth, you tell a lie ("mentira"). 15.- You : ya is an informal way of saying you. It is said like this because the word "you" is pronunced with an "a" sound instead of an "ou" sound.

Getting in touch with the grammar

3.- Getting in touch with the grammar: (mp3 sound) I can't think of a better way to get in touch with everything you have learned than listening to a song. Songs are repeatedly in our daily life so they are a great resource to learn English. Since making a video out of pictures of pieces of paper and markers is a new trend, I have decided to do it myself. To do this video I just took a bunch of pieces of paper, I wrote the lyrics of the song and draw something that had something to do with that. Then I took a picture of each part of the lyrics and I put them together as a video using Windows Movie Maker. It is easy and it looks pretty nice. The song I have chosen is "Grenade" by Bruno mars. It is a beautiful love song and it's one of my favourites. Click here to watch the official video. Now, if you are listening with your headsets, pause the recording and watch my video:
