Cat Nutrition Myths Busted

In this episode, Host Rach tackles one of the most debated and misunderstood areas of cat care: nutrition. With so much conflicting advice online, it can be hard to know what’s true, what’s outdated, and what could actually harm your cat. So… what should our feline friends really be eating to stay happy, healthy, and thriving? To help separate fact from fiction, Rach is joined by two CPSV experts: Emilea, our Shelter Manager who has overseen the care of thousands of cats with diverse dietary needs, and Caitlin, our Vet Clinic Practice Manager, who works alongside our veterinary team to ensure each cat receives tailored, evidence-based nutritional support. Together, they bust some of the biggest cat-food myths — from raw diets to milk, supermarket vs premium foods, treats, fussy eaters, and more. If you’ve ever wondered what you should be feeding your cat (or what you absolutely shouldn’t), this episode is packed with clarity, science, and practical advice you can trust. Tune in and enjoy a myth-busting deep dive that could make a big difference to your cat’s long-term health. Cat Protection Society of Victoria Links Website Facebook Instagram TikTok YouTube

Free tips on how to modify behavioural challenges in your cat

Just like humans, cats can get stressed by things going on around them, or by the way people interact with them. Often, owners may notice something is ‘not quite right’ with their cats when they have already been stressed for some time. Cats may lose their appetite or be sick occasionally or behave in a way that owners might not have seen before, such as behaving aggressively or toileting on the walls inside. Here, we chat to animal behaviourist, Natalya Dundovich, about how to spot signs of stress in your cat, as well as how we can modify behavioural challenges in your cat. How to introduce a new furry friend to the family

Whether you’re thinking of welcoming a new kitten into your family or adopting an older cat, before welcoming a new furry friend into your home, it’s important to consider how much time, energy, and financial resources you have available. Every pet will require some special attention to ensure it settles into your family, so it’s crucial to ensure that you can accommodate your furry friend’s needs. Here, we chat to animal behaviourist, Natalya Dundovich, about what you need to consider, and the steps you can take, to ensure your new furry friend is purring all the way into your new home. If you’re wanting to bring home a new feline friend but already have a dog, Natalya suggests looking at the past behaviour of the dog and asking yourself some key questions. ‘Has your dog ever lived with a cat before?’ ‘Has the dog ever had exposure to cats before and what has it’s reactions been like?’ “Your dog’s past behaviour will provide us with a guide as to their future behaviour, so if you have a dog that has been around cats before and has done well, then introducing a feline into the mix should be ok,” she says. If you already have a cat and are looking to bring another one into the family, again, look at the past situation as a good predictor for future behaviour. For example, if you've had a cat who has never had any exposure to other cats and has never had to share their living environment with another cat, then introducing a new cat might be more challenging, whereas if you've had a cat that has successfully cohabited before, then that's good feedback that it might be suitable again in the future.
