Another lovely respiratory therapist joined us today, Dom. He has gone from 12+ years as a respiratory therapist to now a new graduate nurse. His advice: know your oxygen delivery devices. Dom learned how to adapt to the scope of practice in a new role. But you know…even though he’s a nurse now,  you should still bug him for a respiratory assessment and treatment.

Rehabilitation: Occupational therapists work with individuals who have experienced injuries or illnesses to regain functional abilities and achieve independence in daily activities. It’s all about patient advocacy. Listen to hear what Colleen has to say about being an inpatient OT!

What a year 2020 has been. From cooking trends, to working/schooling from home, and oh yeah- that thing called COVID-19. Although it was rough at times we all made it. The holidays are a time to enjoy with friends and family. Although this year may be a little different, we talk about how we spend the holidays as nurses. We had to get in some food talk before discussing how zoom university has changed the learning game in 2020.  Like it or not, zoom university might be here to stay.

Your hairs a mess, your nails are a mess, your back hurts, you haven’t had time to work out, you’re stressed, and you feel like your life is being pulled in 10 different directions. Sound familiar? We were nursing students and we’ve been there, and we still experience this as working nurses. Balance is key to surviving nursing school. We’ve all had that moment of, “I’m totally going to fail this class.” We recount our moments of near fails, and discuss missing out on weddings, engagements, baby showers, graduations, and just hanging out with friends and family. It may not seem like it but you can find small ways to not cancel your social life altogether.

You’ve started nursing school and you have all the tools you need to succeed. Nursing school will be a breeze for some (said no one ever 😃), and a low-key soap opera for others.
