Su-34s bombed a Ukrainian military facility

Episode in Russian
MOSCOW, April 20 – RIA Novosti. The Russian Defense Ministry has shown how Su-34 frontline bombers carried out a bombing strike against a Ukrainian military facility. The video shows Su-34s taking off with bombs suspended under the fuselage. Then aerial footage shows an air strike on an industrial building. The buildings in the video resemble those of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. “In the course of the combat mission, Russian Air Force crews practiced practical air strikes against buried long-term fortified structures used by nationalist formations and warehouses with weapons and ammunition, including foreign-made ones,” the Defense Ministry said. They specified that the air strikes were carried out singly and in pairs, and the results of the strikes were recorded by means of objective control of aircraft and drones. Medvedchuk asked Putin and Zelensky to exchange him for the Mariupol fighters

Episode in Russian
The SBU published Medvedchuk’s appeal in which he asked to exchange him for the residents of Mariupol. At the same time, the Rossiya 24 TV channel showed the British prisoners who had asked Johnson for help in exchanging them for the Ukrainian politician. The head of the political council of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk asked to exchange him for “defenders and residents of Mariupol”. The politician’s appeal was published on the YouTube channel of the Security Service of Ukraine. “I want to ask the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to exchange me by the Ukrainian side for the defenders of Mariupol and residents who are there today and do not have the possibility of safe exit through humanitarian corridors,” he said. At the same time, the Rossiya 24 TV channel showed two British citizens taken prisoner in Ukraine – Sean Pinner and Aidan Aslin. During the broadcast, they asked the British authorities, in particular Prime Minister Boris Johnson, to assist in exchanging them for Medvedchuk. The videos were filmed in different rooms. Both British men were approached by a man who showed them on his phone a recording of a video message from Medvedchuk’s wife Oksana Marchenko to Johnson asking him to exchange them for her husband. From Eslin, who was sitting in handcuffs, the man asked: “Do you think this appeal to Boris Johnson will be heard and your government will try to exchange you?” “I think Boris needs to listen to what Oksana said. If Boris Johnson really cares about British citizens as he says he does, then he will help put pressure on [Vladimir] Zelensky to do the right thing and get Victor back to his family and us back to our families,” Eslin said. Ukrainian authorities announced Medvedchuk’s detention on April 12. Zelensky offered to exchange the politician for the Ukrainian military. The Kremlin responded that Medvedchuk is not a Russian citizen and has nothing to do with the military operation in Ukraine. “We don’t know at all whether he himself wants any Russian involvement in resolving this libelous situation against him,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Afterwards, Medvedchuk’s wife Oksana Marchenko recorded several video messages – to Putin, saying that her husband had agreed to the exchange, as well as to Zelensky asking him to release her husband and to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, urging him to use his influence to resolve the issue. In another appeal, Marchenko suggested exchanging two Britons, Pinner and Eslin, for Medvedchuk. According to Marchenko, she learned from the media that both men acted in the 36th brigade of the AFU Marines and “surrendered” to the Russian and DNR military. She appealed to the relatives of the British prisoners and said that it was in their power “to ask Johnson to influence the Ukrainian leadership and obtain the release of Aiden and Sean by exchanging them.” The Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on Marchenko’s proposal, noted that Johnson, who recently visited Kiev, “is surely aware of the fate of the Royal Majesty’s subjects.” “Won’t hesitate to respond, though. And Liz Truss will tell us what the British were basically doing there,” said Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the department. Medvedchuk is Putin’s cousin. The Russian president is the godfather of the Ukrainian politician’s daughter. In Ukraine, several criminal cases were opened against Medvedchuk, including an article on treason, under which he could face punishment of up to life. Medvedchuk had been under house arrest since May 2021, but in February 2022, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported his escape. Medvedchuk’s lawyer, Larisa Cherednichenko, said that the politician had received threats and, due to the “real danger to his life” Medvedchuk had been “evacuated to a safe place in Kiev,” where he “continues to perform the procedural duties assigned to him by the court. Medvedchuk himself called his persecution political repression. On April 16, a court in Lviv arrested Medvedchuk without the possibility of bail. Petersburgers are forced to fill in slippery sidewalks themselves to avoid overcrowded hospitals

Episode in Russian
They could not rely on municipal services Citizens of St. Petersburg are forced to cover up slippery sidewalks themselves, so they don’t end up in overcrowded hospitals with injuries. We talked to the organizers of the action. Residents of Kolomna (a historic district of St. Petersburg) got tired of the inaction of utility workers and decided to save themselves from injuries on sidewalks covered in wet ice. They organized an action “Propesochka”: bought 250 kg of sand (with delivery cost of 2 thousand rubles) and today give it away for free to those wishing that they sprinkle the ice on the sidewalks. “We have a big problem in St. Petersburg. The city is not sprinkled, do not clean the snow. It’s very slippery! Elderly people don’t go out at all because of this. This is not the right thing to do,” Ilya, the organizer of the action, told Readovka. The first bill amends the Federal Law “On the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of population”. According to it, citizens will be able to visit places of mass events, cultural institutions, public catering facilities and retail trade with the presentation of either a QR code about vaccination or a document confirming that the person has had a coronavirus, or a medical waiver of vaccination. Until February 1, 2022, it will also be possible to submit the results of a negative PCR test. After February 1, only citizens with a medical exemption will be able to do so. Regional authorities will decide on the use of QR codes and the list of facilities where they will be required. Without these documents, citizens will only be able to visit pharmacies and stores with food and essential goods (such as fuel and hygiene products, a full list is available here). The norms of the law will be valid until June 1, 2022. The second bill amends Article 107 of the Air Code and the Federal law “The Charter of railway transport of Russia”. It provides for the introduction of QR codes on the railway and air transport. We are talking about intercity and international carriages. A QR-code on vaccination or a certificate of having had an illness or a medical excuse to have a vaccination will also be necessary for travelling. A negative result of a PCR test will be sufficient until the date specified by the government of the Russian Federation, in the absence of such documentation. The same test will be required for a citizen of a foreign country when receiving rail or air transport services. On November 15, the Duma Council considered the documents and decided to send the initiatives for discussion to the regions, the Public Chamber, the Accounting Chamber and the Federation Council until December 14 inclusive. At the same time the government has offered at first to accept the results of PCR-testing along with QR-code. Prior to February 1, a person will be able to submit a negative PCR-test in case of lack of necessary documentation to visit the specified objects. After February 1, only citizens with medical clearance will have such an opportunity. The decision on the use of QR-codes and the list of objects where they are required will be made by the regional authorities. It will still be unnecessary to show anything when visiting pharmacies, organizations providing the population with food and essential commodities. The norms of the law will be valid until June 1, 2022. The post Opponents of QR codes held a procession appeared first on Russian News.

Tragedy and Miracle: We Tell the Story of the Listvyazhnaya Mine Explosion from the Start

Episode in Russian
At the moment of the accident there were 285 people inside the mine On November 25, at 8:51 am (4:51 Moscow time, later in this text the Moscow time) of Kemerovo time there was an explosion and smoke in a mine “Listvyazhnaya” at a depth of 250 meters. At that time, 285 miners were underground. How it all began During the first hours, 236 people were evacuated. Then, they managed to extract the body of the first casualty from the ground. It turned out to be a 23-year-old worker. According to the local media, his name was Anatoli Bedarev. By 12:30 Moscow time three more people had been brought to the surface and 10 dead bodies had been found. “At 08:51 at the Listvyazhnaya mine in the village of Gramoteino, Belovsky urban district, at a depth of 250 meters there was smoke. There were 285 miners in the mine. As many as 239 people were brought to the surface. As of 16:00 (12:00 Moscow time), 46 people were still in the mine. Ten of them died. Forty-three of the wounded are in hospitals. Four of them are in a serious condition, 39 are of light and moderate severity,” said the governor of Kemerovo region. Governor of the Kemerovo region Sergey Tsivilev. By 1 pm, the search and rescue operation had to be suspended due to high gas concentrations. At that moment there were 36 miners underground. At that time, the acting head of Emergencies Ministry Alexander Chupriyan and Deputy Minister of Health Oleg Gridnev were sent to Kemerovo region. What is known about the mine The conditions in the mine after the accident were not easy. One of the workers said that they had to go to the surface because of the darkness. There have been accidents at the mine at different times. In 1981 a methane explosion killed 5 people, in 2004, 13 miners died of the same causes. Just a few days before the current tragedy there was a fire in the mine. The miners extinguished the fire with their own resources, said the widow of one of the dead miners. As another miner told Another miner, there were problems with ventilation at Listvyazhnaya and absolutely everyone knew about the “high methane content. At the same time, Rostechnadzor last checked the mine a few hours before the accident. No violations were found. In April 2021 a similar inspection revealed violations related to fire safety. In particular, the mine lacked sensors capable of detecting early signs of fire, and the fire shield was not fully manned. At the same time, some employees of the mine believed that the problems were caused by their own personnel and that the management had nothing to do with it. Protecting the tops was suddenly a certain Ivan, who worked at Listvyazhnaya from 2019 to 2020. “Safety is top-notch there, and what happened must have been most of the responsibility lies with the working staff. There were cases when the methane level was exceeded. In this case we always informed the dispatcher. The management had nothing to do with it. Of course, there were problems with ventilation, but they were not such global violations. There are no complaints against the supervisors. Anything can happen in a mine. Methane can blow out. Boom, that’s all,” the miner told the “Moscow Talk” radio station. However, it was hard to believe it, so they conducted their own investigation and found that the mine continued to operate with numerous violations, thanks to connections with the authorities of Kuzbass. In short, the inspection authorities repeatedly found serious violations at the Listvyazhnaya mine. For example, in April 2021 Rostekhnadzor identified 139 violations. Among them were the lack of sensors to detect early signs of fire, problems with ventilation, not fully staffed fire shield, and the alarm system was even faulty. Rostekhnadzor also conducted an inspection in February 2020 and found 18 violations. The agency found problems with the availability of firefighting equipment, and the sensors that record methane levels were only triggered when the norm was twice as high. A year earlier, Rostekhnadzor found a record number of violations – 415. Among the violations there were problems of ventilation, fire safety, and so on. It is noteworthy that on the eve of the tragedy Rostechnadzor conducted an unscheduled inspection of the mine, but no violations were discovered. Despite such flagrant violations of fire and industrial safety, the mine always continued operating, and the sanctions from the inspection bodies were limited to fines of 25 thousand rubles. This is easily explained by the fact that the Listvyazhnaya mine belongs to SDS-UGOL JSC (SDS – Siberian Business Union). However, the campaign’s huge debt of $1.5 billion remains a serious problem. This explains why the company was unable to provide a normal level of safety at the mine – after all, it is possible to save money on workers, especially with such a “roof” on top. By the way, the company still has one more mine, Yuzhnaya, where a similar accident could happen at any second. However, it was hard to believe it, so they conducted their own investigation and found that the mine continued to operate with numerous violations, thanks to connections with the authorities of Kuzbass. No one waited any longer. In the evening, six rescuers went in search of the miners. Later, everyone was officially informed about their deaths. A total of 52 people died as a result of the tragedy, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations on the evening of November 25. In the morning of November 26, the agency published a list of the killed rescuers and expressed condolences to the families of the dead heroes. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on awarding them posthumously with the Orders of Courage. However, one of the heroes was still “buried” in haste. A real miracle happened: 51 year-old rescuer, Assistant Platoon Commander Alexander Zakoryashin was found alive. Or rather, he came out on his own, having spent the whole night in the mine. An interesting detail is the fact that the night before, when gone into the mine rescuers to see alive no one expected to, it was decided to mine workings in the mine “Listvyazhnaya” to isolate, wait until they are filled with methane and return to the search operations in three days. This was officially announced to the press by the Governor of the Kemerovo Region, Sergei Tsivilev. He says it is necessary in order to ensure that the concentration of gas has reached a safe level and to allow further rescue work. By that time, three squads of mine rescuers had already arrived at the site and were ready to go into the mine. “The plan of action is determined as follows: these three squads will do the isolation of the mine workings, once the isolation is completed, the natural methane filling of 257,000 cubic meters will begin, so that the methane level reaches over 20%, when the risk of explosion is reduced,” the governor said. And he added that “most likely, we will not find anyone else alive in the Listvyazhnaya mine. And he was wrong. A three-day mourning period was declared in the Kemerovo region. “Benedict” is tearing down rooftops in central Russia

Episode in Russian
Gathered information about the cyclone that wrapped the country in precipitation The Genoese cyclone Benedict came to Russia. Since the morning in Moscow – floods and puddles, a drop in pressure and unprecedentedly high temperatures for November. And in St. Petersburg the staff can’t cope with snowdrifts and ice – as the locals joke, the city is gradually turning into an ice rink. The other cities are also (not) coping with the cyclone. Cyclone Benedict, which is 1,700 kilometers in diameter on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Its center for a long time was on the border of Moscow and Tver regions. It moved from west to east. It is characterized by extremely low atmospheric pressure – about 718 mm Hg, instead of the usual 748. The cyclone will bring snow instead of rain to the central regions of Russia. Moscow On the last autumn day, November 30, the weather in Moscow broke two multi-year records at once. By 7:00 am the temperature rose to +7.5 degrees and atmospheric pressure fell to 712.5 millimeters of the mercury column. Prior to that the highest temperature was recorded in 1974 – then it got warmer up to +5.8 degrees. The lowest pressure was fixed on November 30, 1988 – 718.2 millimeters of mercury, told “Meteonovosti. “This will be the heaviest rainfall of the day in the last 69 years. The record of the day so far belongs to 1952 (25.4 millimeters). The daily precipitation record for all of November is 41 millimeters,” said Yevgeny Tishkovets of the Phobos weather center (quoted by RIA Novosti ). The meteorologist said that Muscovites owe such weather to Cyclone Benedict from Genoa, which will bring down to 40% of the monthly norm of precipitation – two buckets of water per square meter. Also, the capital’s major parks and the Moscow Zoo are temporarily closed to visitors. Thus, the “Benedict” belligerent with the capital is known: Up to 23 millimeters of precipitation will fall – 40% of the monthly norm. That’s two buckets of water per square meter (a record for the last 69 years) On the night of November 30, the night temperature record was also recorded in the capital – plus 4.6 degrees. The record of 15 years ago will fall: in 2006 it was +4,4. It’s going to get cold after 17 o’clock. What happened at the Belarusian-Polish border on November 16

Episode in Russian
Main news of the day November 16, at the border between Belarus and Poland, migrants started to break the barriers on the neutral zone and to throw stones at the Polish military. The Polish military responded with tear gas, reports Belarusian news agency Sputnik Belarus. Last night a group of about a hundred migrants attempted to cross the border with Poland near Dubicze. It became known thanks to the message of the Polish Border Guard in its Twitter. In total, according to the Polish authorities, over the last day there have been 224 attempts to cross the border illegally and 29 people have already been ordered to be deported from Poland. In addition, citizens of Poland, Tajikistan and Ukraine, who tried to smuggle 10 migrants by car across the border, were detained in the Podlaskie province. In the afternoon, the Belarusian media reported that the migrants were leaving the checkpoint and going to the place of the old camp. After the incident with a policeman being seriously wounded, Polish border guards stated that they would not hesitate to use weapons if necessary. Toward evening, groups of migrants at the “Bruzgi” border crossing between Belarus and Poland moved in the direction of the old camp. The bulk of the migrants, numbering over 2,000, remained at the border crossing itself. European countries continue their rhetoric against Belarus, saying they will impose additional sanctions. In particular, the Norwegian authorities announced it today. “Norway will support sanctions against Belarus,” Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt told TASS. – “We do not want this [migrant] movement to continue. It endangers many lives, it’s a cynical use of ordinary people who pay because they are looking for a better life.” Thus, this will be the fifth package of the European Union sanctions against the authorities of Belarus. It will be agreed and put into effect in the coming days, said Josep Borrell, head of the EU External Action Service, following the meeting. Polish authorities believe that Belarus is to blame for the destruction of the fence on the border between the two countries. Poles also expressed concern that the Belarusian authorities might arm migrants to attack border guards, while President Alexander Lukashenko said there’s evidence of attempts to pass weapons to the refugees on the border with Poland. Warsaw is close to considering an offer of help from NATO countries on the border with refugees. At a briefing, Polish government spokesman Piotr Müller said he oddly expects the migration crisis on the border to continue for several months. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry reported that 170 citizens of the country who want to return from the Polish-Belarusian border. This was reported by RT. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that “it is necessary to speak with the person (Alexander Lukashenko), who is responsible for what is happening on the border,” to resolve the migration crisis there. Yesterday the head of Lithuania stated about Russia’s participation in this situation, and his words were denied by Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, at the press conference on November 16th. Recall that in summer the flow of refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to get to Western Europe increased on the borders of Belarus with Poland and the Baltic States. The situation exacerbated in early November, when about two thousand people gathered at the barbed wire. The Polish security forces stopped several attempts to break through, including with the use of tear gas, and the illegals set up a spontaneous camp. The situation escalated sharply on November 8, when about 2 thousand migrants in a crowd came to the Belarusian-Polish border near the checkpoint “Bruzgi”. Some of them were able to break the barbed wire border and enter the territory of the European Union. A number of media outlets reported that Belarusian security officers with dogs, preventing a column of migrants from reaching the checkpoint, directed Kurds into the woods on the border with Poland. In some cases migrants tried to “open” the fence by force. To do this they used wire cutters and logs. Poland urgently sent a detachment of border guards to the site. The country’s military minister, Mariusz Blaszczak, announced that the army was on high alert. In the morning of November 10, it became known that two groups of migrants had broken through into Polish territory. The next day, on November 11, it became known that Aeroflot could fall under EU sanctions because of the situation in Belarus.
