Customer Service Part 1: The Cornerstone of a Sales Career

Episode in Sales Therapy
You can't cover sales without talking about customer service. It's one of the foundational elements to finding success and longevity because good customer service can have your customers come to you rather than you always having to chase them down! Hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward discuss what customer service looks like in each of their industries as well as some principles that hold true no matter what kind of sales you are in. They talk about the Biblical principle of "Second Mile Service" and why customer service should be especially valuable to salespeople who want their careers to honor Jesus.

Expert vs. Generalist... What makes for a better sales career?

Episode in Sales Therapy
We're back for season 2 of Sales Therapy! Hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward continue their discussions about the intersection of faith, family, and finding success in sales careers. In this week's episode we talk about one of the fundamental debates of the sales industry... should I become an expert in a narrow field or be competent across a lot of different areas? We start by defining and giving examples of what it means to be an expert vs. a generalist then move in to discussing the pros and cons of each. Jonathon and Lanier share stories from their careers and from people they know in sales and give an overview of what it might look like to build your career down each path. Thanks to Pat Sullivan (@itspatsoul) for episode music and Katie Moody (@katiemoodyphoto) for episode art. Please follow our pages on social media (@salestherapypod) and share this episode with other people trying to balance their sales career with their faith and family!

For Richer or For Poorer

Episode in Sales Therapy
One of the primary reasons people are drawn to sales is for the promise of "limitless earning potential." It sounds great, but what's the financial reality of working in sales? Sure, the ceiling is really high... but how about the floor? On this week's session of Sales Therapy, Jonathon and Lanier discuss a Biblical view of money, their personal habits when it comes to budgeting and planning for the future, and the good, bad, and ugly of the financial side of working in sales! This is the last session of Season 1, but we look forward to being back soon with season 2! Please continue to rate and review the podcast and share it with anyone you know that could use some Sales Therapy!

Busy Vs. Productive

Episode in Sales Therapy
Trying to juggle faith, family and work will inevitably make you a busy person... but is busy the goal? It's easy to understand the difference when it comes to work, but have you considered what a productive faith or family life looks like? We hadn't! So join us as we dive in to an authentic conversation about how we move from busy family schedules and checking off spiritual boxes to actually moving forward and growing in those areas of life.

The Balancing Act

Episode in Sales Therapy
Until you figure out how to get a 25th hour in the day or 8th day in the week, you're going to struggle with the same thing every other salesperson does... how do I get my work done, be present with my family, and have time to engage in activities I care about? Hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward don't know either... but this week they invite you to listen in as they talk about what has and has not worked for them as they've tried to strike a healthy balance between work, faith, and family. From practical tips on how to build out your schedule to Jonathan's take on "Bringing Sexy Back" there's going to be something for everyone to learn from this week's episode!

Made For This

Episode in Sales Therapy
Jonathon has been told "You should be in sales!" for as long as he can remember. Lanier... hasn't. Is there a particular personality type that's best suited for sales? Can I learn to be good at it or do I have to be born with it?  This week, hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward discuss what makes a good salesperson. Every company seems to have their own personality assessment that they use to label you and find the right place for you. So is it as simple as "extroverts belong in sales and introverts don't?" That's not the way we see it. There are some natural qualities that make finding success in sales a little easier, but there's no substitute for hard work and perseverance. Even if you do have the "you should be in sales!" personality, that's not enough to make you successful. Jonathon and Lanier also dive in to 1 Corinthians 12 and talk about how God's design for each person is intentional and unique. It's much better to spend your time identifying and sharpening your gifts instead of wishing you had someone elses! Dealing With Rejection

Episode in Sales Therapy
In Session 2 of Sales Therapy, hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward discuss everyone's favorite topic... rejection! In the world of sales, rejection is the ever present "elephant in the room" and your ability to deal with it is going to have a major impact on how long and how fruitful your career can be. Jonathon and Lanier talk about some of their harshest rejections, how they have grown in their abilities to deal with it, and how their faith impacts their ability to maintain a healthy self-worth even while facing rejection.  If you're struggling with rejection as a salesperson, this episode will let you know you're not alone, and that there is still hope out there! Jonathon and Lanier discuss the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead and instead of everyone being amazed, some people decide they need to go tell the Pharisees that they've had enough of him. If bringing someone back from the dead isn't above rejection, then neither are our sales pitches! Expectations vs. Reality

Episode in Sales Therapy
Hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward lay out each of their paths into sales professions and discuss their early efforts to reconcile their expectations of what their sales careers would look like versus the realities they found themselves in.  The discussion then turns towards their attempts to keep biblical principles at the center of a secular, materialistic field and how letting "yes be yes and no be no" has impacted each of their careers and lives in general.
