Margaret Jasinska ND Talks IBS

/audio/fiveaa/margaret-jasinska-ibs.mp3   Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition characterized by symptoms of constipation and/or diarrhea (often alternating), abdominal pain (predominantly low down on the left side), bloating and flatulence. It is a diagnosis made when investigations and tests such as X-rays, colonoscopy and microscopic examinations of the bowel motions are normal, which means that no serious disease such as bowel cancer or colitis is present. It is said to be a functional disorder, meaning that the bowel appears normal in all aspects but just doesn’t work normally. This common problem has been known in the past by several names including “spastic colon” or “nervous bowel”.  Women are affected twice as often as men and it tends to be a chronic disorder that comes and goes over many years.  Irritable Bowel Syndrome affects tens of millions of people worldwide; it is estimated that at least 20 percent of all gastro-related doctor visits may be due to IBS symptoms. IBS affects up to 1 in 5. For more information about IBS, please visit www.liverdoctor.com/irritable-bowel-syndrome/

Dr Sandra Cabot On Fatty Livers – Part 2

/audio/fiveaa/fatty-liver-part2.mp3   Fatty liver occurs when excess fat accumulates inside liver cells. This means normal, healthy liver tissue becomes partly replaced with fatty tissue. The fat starts to invade the liver, gradually infiltrating the healthy liver areas, so that less and less healthy liver tissue remains. The fatty liver has a yellow greasy appearance and is often enlarged and swollen with fat. This fatty infiltration slows down the metabolism of body fat stores, which means that the liver burns fat less efficiently, resulting in weight gain and inability to lose weight. However some people can have a fatty liver without being overweight. For more information about fatty liver, please visit www.liverdoctor.com/liver/fatty-liver

Dr Sandra Cabot On Fybromyalgia

/audio/fiveaa/fybromyalgia.mp3   Fibromyalgia is explained as a very common problem presenting itself as pain and tenderness in the muscles, ligaments, joints and connective tissues. Muscular pain is often similar to conditions which occur as a result of injury or muscle overuse. Tenderness in the muscles and tendons which are painful to touch are known as ‘trigger points’. Pain may be chronic or intermittent and to qualify for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia it must have been present for at least three months. Fibromyalgia affects between 3 and 10% of the worlds population, both men and women. However, women are more commonly affected as fibromyalgia often begins during the peri-menopausal years. Fibromyalgia is also often associated with chronic fatigue, headaches and disturbed sleep. For more information about Fibromyalgia, please visit www.liverdoctor.com/fibromyalgia

DR Sandra Cabot Talks Headaches

/audio/fiveaa/headaches.mp3   Headaches are a common problem and are generally transient and eased by a mild analgesic such as tablets containing a combination of paracetamol or aspirin with codeine. More than 90 %of all headaches are classified as tension headaches, which occur when the muscles in the back of your neck and/or scalp tighten.  Sometimes they can be relieved by lying down at the first hint of a headache in a dark room, drinking cool water and placing a cold pack over the head and face.
