371: "Serving C*nt" - SNL S45E13 - RuPaul / Justin Bieber
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we're mourning democracy as we watch an episode of Saturday Night Live. It's Season 45, an era of the show that George doesn't even enjoy and Ben really hates. RuPaul hosts and Justin Bieber sings. Don't worry, you'll get to hear George's opinions about Kitty Scott Claus as well as Ben's pleas to hunt down all Trump supporters. This is not a good episode of SNL. It's not a terrible episode, it's just kinda boring. We get some Thirsty Cops, RuPaul reading some books, two random ladies screaming in a restaurant, two other random ladies sitting on a couch talking about shit, a family game of Charades going wrong, Chad gets dolled up like a drag queen, a debate cold open that Ben didn't even watch, and the immortal Beck Bennett ruining his life over a game of Boop-It (which is the only thing we liked in the whole episode). Enjoy! This episode was fan requested, if you'd like to request anything hit us up!

370: "The Big One Was His Ass" - Canadian Bacon (1995)
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we're gearing up for the 2024 election by watching a political comedy from 1995. Canadian Bacon is the only non-documentary directed by Michael Moore and it's a cold war satire about a fake conflict with our neighbors to the north. It's fine. It's the last movie released to feature John Candy's as he died the year before. It's got Rhea Pearlman obsessed with a building that looks like a penis. It's got Rip Torn yelling and grunting. It's got a pretty fun cast also featuring Alan Alda and Kevin Pollak. But most importantly it features cameos from two SNL alums in Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. This is our last podcast before the 2024 election but due to an uploading issue it's being released a week later so enjoy that brief moment of time where we still had some hope. You can also watch this episode on YouTube (search Saturday Night Jive Podcast and you should be able to find it) as we recorded this live to YouTube when we thought we'd never be able to post a new podcast episode. Anyway, Enjoy!

369: "Right In Them Dimples" - Three To Tango (1999) and SNL's Hottest Cast Members
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Three To Tango for some reason. A romantic comedy starring 3 one-time SNL hosts in Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell, and Dylan McDermott where Chandler Bing has to pretend he's gay to appease his boss while romancing his boss's mistress. We thought it would be more problematic than it turned out to be. So as a bonus to a conversation on a mediocre and forgettable movie we also rank the Hottest SNL Cast Member by fan request. So listen to us drool over some hunky and sexy Not Ready For Primetime Players then listen to us talk about Matthew Perry's hair. Enjoy!

368: "All Your Holes Are Filled" - SNL S7E4 - Donald Pleasence / Fear
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
As you're gearing up for spooky season we watched the spookiest episode in Saturday Night Live history. It's the infamous Season 7 episode hosted by Donald Pleasence with musical guest Fear. This episode aired on Halloween night and the show took full advantage of that. We get a British soldier sawing his own leg off, a woman cleaning up the mess from her recently murdered husband through song, a pumpkin committing seppuku, a family sitting down to a sugar breakfast, a random John Belushi cameo, a talk show ending in murder, Brian DePalma ripping off Hitchcock, body horror with joggers, a Jekyll & Hyde Jerry Lewis, and most terrifying of all a musical version of MacBeth. This one's got a lot of blood, a lot of gore, and concludes in one of the most infamous musical performance of all time. Grab your smashing pumpkin and don't forget to vomit for luck . Enjoy! 367: "Father Guido Sarducci Never Breaks Character" - SNL S4E3 - Frank Zappa
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
By popular demand we watched a "classic" episode of SNL from Season 4 hosted by Frank Zappa. This episode is notorious for being terrible and Zappa has been on many Worst Host Ever lists. Turns out it's all true. This sucked. Zappa doesn't give a shit during the whole episode, every sketch is way too long, and it's a pretty dismal affair all around. George defends Zappa a little (at least musically) but Ben hates this man's guts. Take a trip up to Freak Mountain and hang with us as we don't do drugs. Enjoy!

366: "Tinkerbell Is Dead" - Thomas And The Magic Railroad (2000)
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Thomas And The Magic Railroad from 2000 starring 17-time SNL host Alec Baldwin as Mr. Conductor. So this was a huge mistake. Turns out this movie isn't interested in helping you understand what the hell is going on so we spend the majority of the podcast simply confused by the lore of magical trains who don't move their mouths when they talk. We also had no idea this was related to Shining Time Station starring George Carlin and Ringo Starr as Mr. Conductor, we thought that was a different thing. It could be a totally different thing, this could have nothing to do with anything, we have no clue and the movie doesn't seem to either. Help us construct this 1,000 shit puzzle as this is the most perplexing movie we've watched since Southland Tales. Enjoy!

365: "Soak My Coark" - Jimmy Fallon Breaking - An SNL Recurring Character Study
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
And we're back with yet another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances. This week we did something a little different. Instead of watching a recurring character we watched a selection of SNL sketches where Jimmy Fallon adorably broke character and giggled. We picked some doozies but surprisingly we don't put too much blame on Jimmy. Don't get us wrong, he sucks and we don't like him, but these sketches were turds to begin with and Jimmy just turned them into giggly turds. We got some recurring characters in the mix with Jeffrey's, The Leather Man, The Lovers, Debbie Downer, and of course his most recognizable impression Osama Bin Laden. Hope you appreciate all we do for you. Enjoy!

364: "A 2004 Burrito" - White Chicks (2004)
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive (actually almost a year ago on Saturday Night Jive) we watched the 2004 comedy White Chicks starring SNL alum Damon Wayans.....'s brothers Shawn and Marlon as horrifying creatures that we are expected to believe can pass as rich white women. This was intended to be a "lost episode" of the podcast just because I thought the movie was bad, I didn't enjoy talking about it, and why should I spend my time putting together something I don't want to work on. But at long last you can hear our thoughts on this film that probably shouldn't have been made in the first place. A ludicrous premise handled poorly, there could possibly be a good movie hiding somewhere in here but we couldn't find it. We do get another sighting of Lochlyn Munro though who pops up way too frequently on this podcast. Enjoy!

363: "Give Me Some Funny Banjo" - Shana and Trina - An SNL Recurring Character Study
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
And we're back with yet another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances. This week we watched two characters from the same performer. Kristen Wiig is an absolute delight as Shana, the hot lady who does weird things but befuddles us as Trina, a different lady who does weird things. For some, neither may work or both my work. For us, we definitely enjoyed one more than the other. It is fascinating that two characters from the same performer with basically the same premise can have such wildly different outcomes. In both, Kristen enters a scene, grosses out or annoys the people in the scene and they react in a way of "Wow, can you believe how crazy and annoying that character is?". So what makes them so different? Is it just because we are more attracted to one? We'll dive in and find out on this week's episode of Saturday Night Jive. Enjoy!

362: "Speaking Of Will Sasso...Plus VIEWER MAIL" - B.A.P.S (1997)
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we finally watched B.A.P.S from 1997 starring one-time SNL host Halle Berry, Martin Landau, one-time SNL host Bernie Mac, and of course everyone's favorite white rapper/stand-up comic Barry Sobel. At long last, Ben's dream came true and we watched this random 90's comedy. Surprisingly it's not as cringy as one might expect, doesn't mean it's good, just not an abysmal and racist crap-fest. We also open up our e-mail for the first time in almost 2 years and respond to some listener suggestions. Enjoy!

361: "Poo Poo, Farts And Vomit" - SNL S20E12 - Bob Newhart / Des'ree
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
We lost a legend recently and this week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the Bob Newhart episode of SNL from the disastrous Season 20. In the height of SNL's "bad boy" era, they brought on the television icon to class up the joint a little bit. What results is an all-around solid and fun show, while maybe not the downright classic that George remembered from his youth. We get a cold open about the Colin Ferguson trial, a Bob Newhart monologue, Jay Mohr dressed as Ricki Lake, Chris Farley promoting his book of world records, Norm MacDonald anchoring Weekend Update, a very bad Baywatch parody, Bob giving an interview to a disgruntled postal employee, Farley and Chris Elliott playing "Hi, Bob", a manic depressive sports announcer, and the pleasant voice of Des'ree. R.I.P. Bob, you were one of the greats. Enjoy!

360: "Milking The Gorkon" - The Land Of Gorch - An SNL Recurring Character Study
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
And we're back with yet another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances. This week we watched one of the earliest SNL recurring characters, that's right, Ben gets introduced to King Ploobis, Scred, Puuta, Vosh and the rest of The Land Of Gorch an early segment on the show featuring Jim Henson's Muppets. Back in 1975, a counter culture variety show decided to include a live puppet segment and the result was something nobody wanted. The writers hated it, the audience was befuddled, and you can quickly see the resentment held by all involved. We watched almost every appearance, as we've previously established we can tap out whenever we want but this time we skipped some from the middle so we could watch their sad, dour, but in some ways beautiful ending. Enjoy!
Sketches IncludeThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 1 hosted by George CarlinThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 2 hosted by Paul SimonThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 3 hosted by Rob ReinerThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 4 hosted by Candice BergenThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 5 hosted by Robert KleinThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 6 hosted by Lily TomlinThe Land Of Gorch - Season 1, Episode 10 hosted by Buck HenryMuppets Spot - Season 1, Episode 16 hosted by Anthony PerkinsMuppet Trunk - Season 1, Episode 18 hosted by Raquel WelchMuppet Morgue - Season 2, Episode 1 hosted by Lily Tomlin

359: "Special Thanks To Elayne Boosler" - Meatballs Part 2 (1984)
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive We watched Meatballs Part 2 because Bill Murray was in the first Meatballs. We've never seen the first Meatballs movie but that doesn't matter since this movie was never intended as a sequel to Meatballs. It was just a movie that resembled Meatballs a lot (we suppose as we've never seen it) that featured a character named Meathead that they renamed Meatballs 2 after the fact. Life's funny sometimes, but Meatballs 2 is not funny. There's an alien in this movie, but that's not fun at all. Richard Mulligan, Paul Reubens, and John Larroquette all waste their talent. It's a real big bummer of a film but special thanks to Elayne Boosler for all you do. Enjoy!

358: "Robin Duke Only Exists To Titillate Me Sexually" - SNL S08E06 - Robert Blake / Kenny Loggins
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the illusive episode of SNL hosted by alleged murderer Robert Blake. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely not. But could it ever live up to our expectations? Let's talk about it. Also, how frigging hot is Mary Gross? This episode has Robert Blake punching Julia Louis-Dreyfus, a Little Rascals reunion, homophobia in space, and Robin Duke with a saddle on her back. So, that's the name of that tune and you can take that to the bank. Enjoy!

357: "I Can't Wait To See G.E. Smith's Face" - SNL S16E16 - Jeremy Irons / Fishbone
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week Ben had the option to pick anything he wanted to watch and he chose the Jeremy Irons episode of Saturday Night Live with musical guest Fishbone. Why did he do this? Because he likes Fishbone. So, what did we learn? Maybe you shouldn't pick an old episode of SNL for the musical guest because this is one of the most forgettable episodes ever. On the positive side we get some fun Deep Thoughts and two incredible performances from Fishbone, but nothing else brings the goods. Jeremy Irons doesn't seem to want to be there, we get a bunch of recurring characters with visits from Wayne's World, Hans & Franz, and The Richmeister, not to mention a Dennis Miller Weekend Update, a cowboy song, a sketch where women love Jeremy's British accent, a sketch about Hannibal Lecter that doesn't mention cannibalism, and Sherlock Holmes's birthday party. You'll be begging to see some G.E. Smith face. Enjoy!

356: "I Never Liked It To Like It" - Goat Boy - An SNL Recurring Character Study
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
And we're back with yet another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances. This week we watched Goat Boy in all his glory. As we established the last time we did this with Mango we are giving ourselves an out. There are 10 SNL sketch appearances of Goat Boy and we're here to see how many we can stomach before calling it quits (spoiler alert, we don't make it to all 10). We may one day revisit this one-note character from Jim Breuer but not today so sit back, relax, and listen to the madness that happens when two guys try to sit through 45 minutes of a man making goat noises for our amusement. Enjoy!

355: "We're All Going To Hell" - The Other Sister (1999)
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
The Other Sister directed by our good friend Garry Marshall and starring Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi as two mentally challenged adults who find love is a movie that shouldn't have been made. We shouldn't have watched it. In fact, this movie killed the podcast for a little bit as it sent George down an existential rabbit hole where he questioned all reality. We recorded this episode a while ago but decided not to release it for a variety of reasons (don't worry, it's not like it's terribly offensive or anything but that should explain why we talk about the lead singer of Smash Mouth dying several months after it happened). What was originally going to be a lost episode is now available for you to listen and judge us for picking a movie like this to watch and then realize that we can't mock it without sounding like dickheads. Just remember, we're good people who made a mistake. There's not even an SNL alum to justify this so we should learn from this and stick to only watching movies starring Dan Aykroyd or Tim Kazurinsky on Saturday Night Jive. Enjoy!

Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
Ummmm, this movie exists. It's about a bigfoot who plays basketball. Ben is insane and liked it. George is realistic and thinks it's a crappy TV movie starring a guy in a cheap looking monkey suit. You can check it out on YouTube, don't watch the whole thing, or any of it. No SNL cast members in Big And Hairy from 1998 but Enjoy!

Get ready for the most magical time of your life as Academy Award winner Javier Bardem dances with a CGI crocodile voiced by Shawn Mendes in the delightful Lyle Lyle Crocodile also featuring SNL alum Ego Nwodim. 352: "Six Seasons And A Movie" - SNL Failed Pilots
Episode in
Saturday Night Jive Podcast
This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking some television pilots that never got picked up to see a full season that feature some SNL alums. We watched Norman's Corner starring the late, great Gilbert Gottfried and written by former SNL writer Larry David. The also late and also great Charles Rocket stars as a spaceship captain in the sci-fi spoof Star Patrol. There's also Supernerds starring Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and one-season SNL alum Sarah Silverman. We watched the practically flawless pilot for The Grubbs starring Randy Quaid and a pre-Arrested Development Michael Cera. Then we cheated and watched Where's Rodney? starring one-time SNL host Rodney Dangerfield because we were enchanted by the theme song. Should any of these shows have gotten the chance to entertain the masses? We think two of them should, the other three are probably right at home in history's dustbin. Enjoy!
