S4E5 - Audiobookish S5E1 - The Ice Children & The Book that No One Wanted to Read

Episode Notes The new season of Audiobookish has just launched! You can find Audiobookish wherever you find podcasts. The first in our specials reviewing the books on The Week Junior Book Awards shortlist for Audiobook of the Year 2023. First up is The Ice Children by M.G. Leonard, as narrated by Helen Keeley and a full cast. At the stroke of midnight on the dawn of December, five-year-old Finn Albedo is found frozen in the city park on a pedestal of ice. The doctor says his heart is beating, but no one can wake him. Finn’s big sister, Bianca, suspects the beautiful sparkling book Finn got from the library has something to do with it all but the mysterious book has vanished and no one will listen. As more children are frozen, Bianca realises she’s running out of time. Is there a connection between the peculiar stranger wearing a top hat and the disappearing books? The search for truth hurls Bianca into a fantastical winter wonderland where all is not as it seems… Can Bianca remember her mission and find a way to save her brother and the other Ice Children before all their hearts are lost forever? Secondly, we have The Book That No One Wanted to Read by Richard Ayoade as narrated by Richard Ayoade, Jarvis Cocker, and Lydia Fox. What is it that makes YOU want to read a book? Richard Ayoade’s children’s debut gives you all the answers in a way that’s silly, funny, and thoroughly beguiling. Have you ever thought about how it feels to be a book? To be left under a whiffy pant pile or shelved, forever collecting dust? To have your pages bent backwards or your spine BROKEN? What if you don’t have a sparkly unicorn or dragon adorning your cover–who will pick you out of the bookshop then? This is the story of the sadly neglected Book That No One Wanted To Read–can its destiny change when it finally meets the right reader? Spoiler alert: yes. Thank you to The Week Junior for sending us the reviewing copies. You can find out more about the awards by visiting their website: https://www.theweekjuniorbookawards.co.uk/ Support See Through Panel by contributing to their tip jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/see-through-panel Find out more at https://see-through-panel.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast. S3E1 - The Spider: Crime Unlimited (with David Banks)

Episode Notes I'm joined by David Banks (@dpbanks67) to review The Spider: Crime Unlimited, a super-villain comic by JERRY SIEGEL DONNE & AVENELL with art from ALDO MARCULETA & GIORGIO TREVISAN. David Banks lives in Omaha, Nebraska. For the last 20 years he has been performing production and restoration tasks for comic book related projects. When he retired from my day job, he gave himself a not-for-profit “Fan” assignment called The Micronauts 3-year restoration project. Now two years into the work and with an estimated another year to go. Over 2,000 pages of covers and interior art pages will be restored (not recreated). There will be a how-to “Restoring Old Comics” book assembled from detailed notes and examples gathered along the way. There will be a series of simple videos sharing restoration techniques. Hopefully, people will be able to use the book and videos to restore their own comic restoration projects. Since November 28, 2021 he has been sharing on Twitter examples of the work. Alisha Cho is the band's bassist, she is also one of the smartest kids in school and is always planning ahead. A lot of changes soon occur. One day Chloe's girlfriend and recent drummer, Marilyn Penhurst, returns to town. Upon her arrival, seeming darkness looms over the town as Marilyn seems to have her own hidden agenda.  Check out Sever's Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/svr-01/sever-1-a-metal-inspired-horror-romance?ref=discovery&term=sever Wallbreakers is by Jorge Zevallos Blurb: Hot, noisy, and ruthless. S2E15 - Belial

Episode Notes Notes go here We review Belial by Shaun Barbour, Chuck Pineau and Gregory Woronchak. Lettered by Scott Weldon. Blurb: Follow along as Belial sets out to reclaim what was rightfully his! Belial's power, throne, and claim to Hell have been stolen by none other than Lucifer himself. Over the centuries, Hell has become a shadow of its former Glory. It has fallen from Belial's structure, vision, legendary depiction, and epitome of everything you've come to know of the Palace of the Judged. Now Hell is nothing more than a run-down pit of despair, and Belial has had enough! This is the story of a once powerful ruler, that finds himself up against epic odds. He must fight his way back to the throne. He will face off against the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and Lucifer himself to do so. He's not alone in the underdog power struggle, as Belial has retained some loyal followers. Will it be enough, or is this all just a futile attempt at achieving former glory and become the drunken laughing stock of Hell?  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1551820313/belial https://www.facebook.com/BelialComic Follow us on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/seethroughpanelpodcast/ Support See Through Panel by contributing to their Tip Jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/see-through-panel Find out more at https://see-through-panel.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
