Episode #26 “MEN MATTER TOO” with Rob Rubin

There’s one line from Rob Rubin in this episode that stayed with me: “Just because you can take it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.” This conversation is centered on men’s mental health and the different ways people deal with pressure, loss, relationships, responsibility, anger, sadness, and difficult seasons in life. We also talked about accountability, emotions, perspective, pattern interrupts, metacognition, and what happens when you become too close to your own problem to see it clearly. Not everyone processes things the same way. Some people talk about what they’re going through. Some keep it to themselves. Some stay busy. Some don’t realize how much they’re carrying until it starts affecting other parts of their life. So the question becomes: How do you work with what’s happening inside your head? Join me and Rob Rubin in this episode of Self;Talk. Episode #26 “MEN MATTER TOO” with Rob Rubin

Episode #25 “BREAKING THE NARRATIVES” A Conversation with Mapi Rebadomia

Sa work? In this conversation with Mapi Rebadomia, napag-usapan namin yung people pleasing, being a breadwinner, toxic environments, cutting people off, starting over, and taking responsibility for the life you want to build. They’re part of the story. And one line from Mapi that I really liked: “No itself is a sentence.” Sometimes breaking the narrative simply starts with knowing— who’s driving? “BREAKING THE NARRATIVES” A conversation with Mapi Rebadomia Self;Talk with Ken-ken Somera

Episode #24 “PAGBANGON” a conversation with Floi Wycoco

It’s been a while since I uploaded a Self Talk episode. For this one, I sat down with Floi Wycoco. I’ve known Floi for years, so I’ve seen parts of the journey behind where he is today. The wins. The setbacks. The health problems. The business problems. Losing his dad. Starting over. Then starting over again. What I wanted to understand was not just how he bounced back. I wanted to talk about what happens while you’re still in the middle of it. When things are not working. When you don’t know what the next move is. When your confidence takes a hit. When you have to rebuild with whatever you still have. One thing Floi shared that stayed with me: “Don’t be afraid to start all over again.” Because sometimes, pagbangon is not one big comeback. Sometimes it’s one small decision. One opportunity. One relationship. One small win at a time. This is Self Talk Episode #24: "PAGBANGON" (a conversation with Floi Wycoco)

🎙️ Episode 23: “Ang Panget Mo.” with Dra. Kyla Talens

🎙️ Episode 23: “Ang Panget Mo.” That’s where it starts. Not just insecurity. Identity. And here’s what most people don’t realize: The body listens to the mind. Stress shows up physically. Pressure changes behavior. And the way you see yourself affects the way you move through life. We talked about: confidence and self-image emotional stress and its effects on the body how repeated words shape identity and how self-care becomes different when you finally start respecting yourself Kasi minsan, hindi mo kailangan maging ibang tao para gumaan pakiramdam mo. #SelfTalkWithKenKen #KenKenSomera #KylaTalens #Confidence #SelfWorth #MentalHealth #SelfImage #Mindset #PersonalGrowth #Healing #InnerWork #PodcastPH

🎙 Episode 22: A Better Version of Yourself with Jia Xi

🎙 Episode 21: A Better Version of Yourself with Jia Xi May version ka na marunong gumalaw… kahit hindi perfect yung pakiramdam mo. Yun yung binubuo mo. This episode is about functioning and growing while managing depression. Hindi yung biglang okay ka. Hindi yung instant shift. Yung totoo: You learn how to work with your state, not wait for it to change. In this conversation with Jia Xi, we talked about how progress actually looks like: You show up. You do what you can. You keep structure in your day. You build systems that support you. Kasi ang difference ng taong umaangat? They don’t depend on how they feel. They build habits they can rely on. We went into: how identity is shaped by consistent action how routines create stability when emotions fluctuate how to stay productive even on low-energy days and how small wins build real confidence over time Here’s the key shift: You don’t need to solve everything at once. You just need to handle today better. And when you do that consistently… Mas nagiging steady ka. Mas nagiging clear ka. Mas nagiging capable ka. That’s how you build a better version of yourself. Not by waiting for the right feeling. But by creating a way to move forward anyway.

🎙 Episode 21: Prove It to Yourself

After this conversation with my friend Justin Pinon napaisip din ako. madaming tao ang may gustong magbago. And I’ve seen this too many times. You can give people tools. You can give them strategies. You can even guide them step by step. Overview sa usapan namin, may isang bagay angtumatak sakin: Change doesn’t happen when you say it. It happens when you prove it to yourself. Dun nagsisimula yung shift. And to be honest… Kahit ako, I still catch myself. May moments na automatic yung response. May moments na bumabalik yung old pattern. And once you’re aware… you have a choice. Again and again. Kung may isang bagay kang kukunin sa episode na ‘to, eto yun: "Know your value. Then become it." #KenKenSomera #JustinPinon #IdentityShift #SelfAwareness #PersonalGrowth #GrowthMindsetPH #PodcastPH #RealTalk #FYPPhilippines

🎙 Episode 20: Know Your Value with Simon Peter Domingo (Online Filipino Freelancers)

🎙 Episode 20: Know Your Value with Simon Peter Domingo (Online Filipino Freelancers) Hindi mo tataasan ang rate mo… kung hindi mo tinataasan ang tingin mo sa sarili mo. Yan yung core ng episode na ‘to. We talked about identity. From Simon… to Paolo. Kasi minsan, hindi skill ang kulang. Clarity. You start small. You build experience. You learn how to communicate what you can do. We also talked about this: Same effort. Magkaibang environment. Magkaibang bayad. Skill. Communication. Positioning. Yan yung magtataas sayo. And the truth is, nandyan na lahat. May tools. May community. May mentors. 🎧 Listen to Episode 20 of Self Talk.

#19: Master Your Mind - Growth, Identity & Standing Back Up

This episode is personal for me. Because I’ve seen the version of her na hirap huminga sa sarili niyang isip. And that’s scary. Pero eto yung hindi naiintindihan ng karamihan… Hindi nawawala yung thoughts. Ikaw yung nagbabago kung paano mo sila haharapin. In this episode, I had the chance to guest one of my current coaching clients Ms. Dee Samonte to talk about what it really takes to take control of your mind: Not motivation. Not inspiration. But training. Training your breathing. Training your focus. Training your reactions. Training your identity. Because at the end of the day, kung hindi mo kayang i-handle yung sarili mong isip… kahit anong opportunity dumating, hindi mo rin mahahawakan. What I’m proud of here is simple: Hindi lang siya nakinig. Kumilos siya. And that’s the difference. Maraming tao nakikinig. Konti lang yung gumagalaw. We also talked about: paano i-reframe yung sarili mong thoughts paano mag pattern interrupt kapag lumulubog ka na bakit importante ang movement at katawan sa mindset paano gamitin ang anchors para bumalik sa tamang state at paano mag-grow kahit paulit-ulit kang natatalo And one thing stood out: The more she failed, the better she became. Ganun talaga. You go through it. You feel it. You deal with it. Then you rise from it. So kung nahihirapan ka ngayon… Let me tell you this straight: Hindi ka mamamatay diyan. And when that version comes out… Ibang laro na yun. 🎧 Listen to Episode 19 of Self Talk.

🎙 Self Talk Episode 18 – WHAT MY FATHER TAUGHT ME

Not everyone gets the chance to sit down with their parents and ask the questions that actually matter. No scripts. No prepared questions. Just a real conversation. Pinag-usapan namin ang discipline, friendship, loyalty, parenting, health, aging, and the beliefs that shape a life. But looking back now, ang daming bagay na na-imprint pala sakin just by watching my parents. Yung leadership. Yung stubbornness. Yung sense of responsibility. There’s a quote that says, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” And habang tumatagal, mas naiintindihan ko kung bakit. This episode is not about techniques. Hindi ito tungkol sa NLP. Hindi ito tungkol sa mindset strategies. This is about where those things started. Kung may natutunan ako sa usapan na ito, it's this: While you still have the chance, talk to your parents. Ask questions. Listen to their stories. And you won’t be able to ask anymore. 🎙 Self Talk Episode 18 – My Dad Watch the full episode here. #SelfTalkWithKenkenSomera #KenkenSomera #LifeLessons #Mindset #Family #Leadership #PersonalGrowth #FatherAndSon #RealConversations

In Episode 17, Ken-ken Somera and George Ramos break down what “main character” really means, not as “bida-bida,” but as ownership, clarity, and presence. We talk about: Why self-focus isn’t automatically selfish How people anchor happiness to other people (and why it hurts) Why presence and confidence can be trained How knowing yourself leads to better decisions and stronger boundaries If you’re looking for change, start with one small step: Five minutes. One question. One honest answer. Salamat sa pakikinig. Kita kits sa next episode.

#16 "BUT WHY" (a Penguin Story review)

“But why?” / "Pero.. Bakit?" Biglang may possibleng drama. Biglang parang may gustong takasan. (based sa ibang mga reaction videos) Pero what if… wala naman talaga? Let's find learning with random videos lolz ~ Listen~ Pause a bit and Relax your mind. Remember to always ask better questions to yourself butt why? lolz

#15 Confidence on Command

Can Confidence be Programmed? Self Talk with Ken-ken Somera Podcast Episode #15 We talked about how confidence is a state you can enter, interrupt, and rebuild. Kapag naintindihan mo kung paano gumagalaw ang focus mo, memories mo, at internal dialogue mo, mas nagiging madali na mag-shift from kaba to clarity. I explained that this is more of my approach with NLP and why "Confidence on Command works by using awareness, memory, and repetition. Kapag marunong kang mag-access ng strong states from your past or even imagined futures, your subconscious starts responding differently. Napag-usapan din namin kung bakit practice matters and how the subconscious learns through association and repetition. The more you practice entering a confident state, the more natural it becomes. Over time, your mind stops asking “kaya ko ba?” and starts moving straight into system and action. This episode is for anyone who wants to understand confidence beyond surface behavior, and start working with how the mind actually processes pressure, focus, and performance. If you’re curious how confidence can be programmed, trained, and activated from the inside out, this episode will help you see it in a deeper, more practical way.

#14 Slave ka ba ng utak mo?

Most people don’t even question this, pero dapat ikaw ang master ng utak mo, hindi baliktad. Welcome to episode #14. * About getting older. * Missing certain versions of myself. * And realizing na yung mga ginusto kong mga past versions of myself ay hindi naman nawala at maaaring mga states na kayang ma access through NLP anchors. * malaking part ang awareness Because when you become aware, you gain choice. And better choices change everything.

#12 Mindset, Self-Talk, and the Invisible Programming Running Your Life

It’s about changing the narrative and gaining control.” ⏱️ 04:48 – 05:57 Basketball example. “Possible na hindi ko pa kaya ngayon. Pero kung itutuloy ko to, gagaling ako.” Isang linya lang ang binago. Pero ang epekto? Quitter vs. learner. ⏱️ 08:48 – 09:16 “You choose what influences you. That’s how you gain your power back.” ⏱️ 11:36 – 14:07 Music. Media. Content. “Ayokong sabihin negative. Mas tama: not useful.” “Before it becomes an emotion, it’s a thought.” Hindi ka helpless. Hindi ka powerless. Hindi mo lang pinapansin ang pinanggagalingan. 🧠 Ito ang Gusto Kong Maiwan Sa’yo Manage what you consume.

Episode #11 Wala Lang (Men's Mental Health)

We walked into this episode with no script. No agenda. No big plan. (Kaya nga self talk to, tumingin ka naman muna sa sarili mo) In this episode, I sat down with my good friend George Ramos, and we talked about the things men rarely say out loud: ** "Bakit ang hirap mag-open up pag lalaki ka" ** "Bakit maraming nasa 30s at 40s ang biglang nagtatanong ng “ano ba talaga ang purpose ko?”" ** "Bakit kahit may trabaho, pamilya, o status, may mabigat pa ring negative self-talk sa ulo" Here’s the part na gusto kong tandaan mo: Kung araw-araw kang nasa environment na paulit-ulit kang binabalik sa lumang version mo, kahit gaano ka pa ka-aware, kahit gaano ka pa karaming alam, parang napaka hirap umusad. That’s why this conversation matters. (o baka hahahaha) It’s about recognizing when an environment has done its job, and when it’s time to change it. (kasi ikaw naman talaga) After graduation, after adulthood… sarili mo na. #MensMentalHealth #NLPPodcast #KenKenSomera #SelfTalk #MentalHealthAwareness #PodcastPhilippines #Mindset #Purpose #Anxiety #Depression #Empowerment #kenthoughts

#8 NLP, Self-Talk, and Overcoming Obstacles an interview session with John Boja

SELF TALK with Ken-ken Somera Episode #8 I've gotten the chance to interview one of my mentors in Neuro Linguistic Programming and Coaching! Manila NLP / John Boja" is one of the top mentors I know in regards to NLP here in the Philippines who started practicing NLP during the 80's, He trained with people who created and developed NLP. He coached executives from high technology companies in California like HP, Yahoo, Apple and Seagate. He already coached well known personalities, politicians and people from different all walks of life to achieve great success in life. Let's get to know more of his experience and insights --- Here's an overview of what was covered this Episode 💎John Boja's personal journey with NLP showcases how it provided him with practical instructions on how to bring about change in his life and overcome self-sabotaging behaviors. 💎NLP, as John describes, offers language patterns and techniques that are useful in sales, persuasion, and communication. It has found application in various fields, including politics, law, and business. 💎John highlights the importance of mastering the foundational aspects of NLP before advancing to higher levels of training, emphasizing the value of practical experience and implementation. 💎He mentions that the inner dialogue or self-talk within individuals can play a significant role in their actions and decision-making. Understanding and managing this internal dialogue can lead to more constructive behaviors. 💎John discusses the significance of setting specific, ambitious, and realistic goals, accompanied by actionable plans and evidence of progress. He suggests that effective goal-setting involves considering timelines and engaging in consistent effort and activity. 💎Addressing the concept of multiple internal parts, John explains that individuals may have conflicting aspects within themselves, such as the desire for success and fear of failure.
