• Spyro: Reignited Trilogy Delayed - Spyro's remastered adventures move out of a crowded September into a crowded November, as the Reignited Trilogy will now launch on November 13th. Is this an even worse release date for the game given the competition launching on and around this same day?
• The PlayStation Cross-Play Saga Continues - The latest in the Sony cross-play saga involved Bethesda and The Elder Scrolls: Legends, as Bethesda has stated the game is in danger of not releasing on the PS4 due to Sony's staunch position on no cross-play. Will this be the straw that breaks the camel's back? Is Sony willing to budge on this?
• PlayStation VR Hits a Milestone - Sony's fledgling VR headset continues to penetrate the market as PlayStation VR has now moved 3 million units. What does this mean for the state of VR both now and into the future?
• Diablo III Heading to Switch - One of the worst kept secrets in the industry is finally a reality as Blizzard has announced that the Diablo III: Eternal Collection is headed to Switch. Is this set to be a worthy version of the legendary dungeon crawler?
• DICE's Hardcore Resurfaces - A shooter 25 years in the making, Strictly Limited Games is bringing DICE's long-thought-lost 2D metroidvania shooter to both PS4 and Vita in 2019. Is this a game that deserves to be resurrected from the cutting room floor?
• Our Most Anticipated Games of the Fall - Brent, Frankie, and special guest Travis of the Polykill Podcast chime in with their most anticipated titles of Fall 2018. Did your favorite make the list?

Podcast #166: Xbox Scarlett Rumors, August's Awesome Indies, & Hellblade Snubs PSVR?
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
Frankie and Bender are off this week, which leaves Brent and Ben to once again saddle up to talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
• Xbox Scarlett Cloud Rumors - According to Microsoft insider Thurott, building off an initial report he released a few weeks back detailing the Xbox Scarlett family of next-gen consoles, Microsoft is looking to release two separate SKUs when their next-gen console hits store shelves in 2020. One SKU is set to be a traditional console that houses all of its processing hardware locally, while the second is said to be a console built entirely around the idea of streaming, off-loading the heavy lifting processing sure-to-be required of next-gen games onto powerful computers and servers offsite. Is the industry ready for a new console built to stream games exclusively?
• Guacamelee! 2 Releases August 21 - Drinkbox Studios' eagerly anticipated follow-up to Guacamelee! has a release date, and gamers can get their hands on the next entry in the series on August 21. With all of the awesome metroidvania games releasing over the course of the next four weeks, is the genre being oversaturated for gamers in the month of August? Will some of these games set to release get lost in the shuffle?
• Fallout 76 Beta Details - The Fallout 76 Beta begins in October, arriving first on Xbox One. With Bethesda's well-documented history of bugs in its single-player games, will their first ever online-only title be able to hold up technically? Also, what's the best thing that Bethesda Game Studios does according to Todd Howard?
• Layoffs Hit Onrush Developer - The former Evolution Studios, now housed under developer Codemasters, suffered an unfortunate series of high profile layoffs to its senior staff this past week after their new title, Onrush, failed to find an audience commercially. With development costs rising and developers needing their games to find immediate success to be profitable more than ever, is the industry heading down a path that is not sustainable for the future?
• Hellblade VR Comes to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Next Week - Developer Ninja Theory has put the finishing touches on a patch that enables Hellblade to be played in third-person VR, and this update arrives for VR users on PC this coming Tuesday. With a PSVR version of the game not available due to astronomical minimum hardware requirements, is this simply a case of the PlayStation 4 just not being powerful enough to run this game, or does Ninja Theory's new exclusivity deal with Microsoft have something to do with this?
• Capcom Hinting at a New Mega Man X Game? - The Japanese version of the soundtrack for the Mega Man X Legacy Collection has released, and the included booklet includes an interesting message. "The story of X's fight is not yet over," adorns the final panel of the soundtrack's booklet, causing fans to wonder if X might be the next to get the Mega Man 11 treatment. Might Capcom consider a new 16-bit entry in the series, similar to the way Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 were new 8-bit entries in the original series last generation?
• Battle Royale News - The Battle Royale genre is the biggest genre in gaming right now, and last week was chock full of news for BR fans. From EA considering a standalone, free-to-play genre entry, to Realm Royale coming to consoles and H1Z1 securing an official PS4 release date, there was a lot for genre fans to sink their teeth into this past week. Does Realm Royale have what it takes to be a consistent presence in the Battle Royale space on both consoles and PC?

Podcast #165: Spider-Man PS4 @ SDCC, No Man's Sky Next, & Collector's Editions Galore!
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
It's a three-man show this week as Brent, Ben, and Frankie are back to once again talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
• No Man's Sky's "NEXT" Update - No Man's Sky gets a huge, game-changing update this week that brings full-on multiplayer, the option to switch the action to a third-person perspective, and the ability to command an armada of freighters among other things. Is this polarizing game worth another look?
• New Spider-Man Details - Spider-Man on the PS4 continues to look amazing as this weekend at Comic-Con gave us another glimpse of the game in action via a new short and sweet story trailer that saw the introduction of Silver Sable to the proceedings. Insomniac and Sony also unveiled the long-rumored Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle, and it looks pretty snazzy. Now that the included rogues gallery is starting to fill out, who else might we see make an appearance here?
• Microsoft Unwilling to Delay Crackdown 3 Further - In a report out of Eurogamer this past week, anonymous sources from Microsoft claimed that the publisher is unwilling to delay the game any further. Is this a good idea? Should we be even more worried about Crackdown 3 than we already are?
• Black Ops 4 Beta Details - The Black Ops 4 Beta begins August 3rd on PS4, giving gamers their first taste of this bold new multiplayer-only direction for the franchise. We also got some new information on the game's included Zombies content which has us even more excited to get our hands on this come October. Also, did anybody notice that little blurb about the Blackout private beta in September?!
• Guerrilla Hopes to Make Games Twice as Fast - First-party juggernaut Guerrilla Games is looking to release games much faster in the future, preferring a two to three year development cycle instead of Horizon: Zero Dawn's six and a half year gestation period. Is expanding their studio to 400 employees enough to make this a reality with the next-generation fast approaching? Will they be able to split into two teams to accomplish this?
• Darksiders III Releases in November - THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games' long-awaited Darksiders sequel finally has a release date, along with a couple of wallet-busting collector's editions to sweeten the deal. With the game's release date revealed outside of E3 and the actual date in question falling after Black Friday, is THQ Nordic just hanging Darksiders III out to dry? Is this game in danger of being buried this holiday season?
• Nintendo's Indie Plans - Nintendo hopes to release 20-30 independent titles per week to the eShop in the near future. Is this plan a benefit to anyone, gamers and developers alike?
• Plus this week's new releases, what we've been playing, and tons more!

Podcast #164: Next-Gen Call of Duty, New Anthem Details, & Is Gaming Ready for Google's Yeti?
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
We're back! After a week off to attend Frankie's wedding festivities (congratulations, Frankie!), Brent and Ben return to run a two-man show this week as they once again team up to talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
• Google Looking to Make a Splash in the Gaming Space - A report out of Kotaku suggests that tech giant Google is looking to make a serious entry in the video game space, possibly releasing a brand new streaming console that looks to go toe-to-toe with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Is the world ready for a console built primarily around streaming? Do we even have the infrastructure to support such a venture?
• Next-Gen Call of Duty - A curious job listing from Infinity Ward suggests the Call of Duty studio is hiring for a next-gen Call of Duty project. With Infinity Ward next up on the docket to develop Call of Duty's 2019 entry after this year's Black Ops IIII from Treyarch, might the next-generation start sooner than anticipated?
• New Anthem Details - A week long AMAAAA (Ask Me Almost Anything About Anthem), as well as a new gameplay trailer of the game's E3 level (complete with developer commentary), has shed some considerable light on Anthem and some of the burning questions the gaming community at large has been asking about. With a clearer picture than ever of just what Anthem is all about, is this a game we need to be even more excited about?
• Todd Howard Talks Cross-Play - Bethesda's Todd Howard has stoked the cross-play flames once again, stating that he'd like to see cross-play in Fallout 76 but Sony is "not as helpful as everyone would like." Just how big of a deal is cross-play to the majority of the gaming community? With increasing support for the feature from the development community and gamers as a whole, will Sony need to change their tune on cross-play sooner rather than later?
• Shenmue 1 & 2 Remastered Releases in August - August 21 sees the long awaited release of the remastered versions of Shenmue 1 & 2 for current-gen systems. Will these classic titles hold up to the test of time? Also, with the PC specs and requirements released for Shenmue III, is this game closer to release than we think?
• Telltale Gets a New Engine - After years of bizarre bugs and rampant game crashes, it appears that Telltale is finally moving on from their flawed original game engine, instead embracing the widely used Unity engine. Will this move allow the developer to move forward with its development ambitions and create a finished product that is more polished than what we're used to seeing from the prolific adventure game company?
• Hollow Knight Sells Big - After a million copies sold on PC, and 250,000 on Switch, Hollow Knight is a certified hit. The only question now is, when is this game coming to Xbox One and PS4?!
• Plus this week's spotlight games, what we've been playing, and tons more!

Podcast #162: The Biggest Questions of E3 2018 & Our Favorite Games of the Show
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
E3 2018 is in the books and we've got a lot to discuss! Join Brent, Ben, Bender, and Frankie as they once again get together to talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming and breakdown everything this year's version of E3 had to offer. Topics this week include:
• What's the Deal With All of the Next-Gen Talk? - From the next Xbox, to the PS5, to the future of game streaming, there were lots of whispers about the next-generation of gaming coming out of this year's E3. Is 2020 a safe bet for the beginning of the next generation?
• Is There Room for Three Loot-Based Shooters? - By the time March 15 rolls around next year, we'll have access to Destiny 2: Forsaken, Anthem, and The Division 2, three loot-based RPG-shooters all vying for the same piece of the "Games as a Service" pie. Is there room for all three of these time-consuming RPGs to thrive in this current market?
• What Exactly is Halo Infinite? - One of the strangest reveals at this year's E3 was the mysterious tech demo/engine reveal for the next Halo game, a reveal that left all of us with a lot more questions than answers. Is Halo Infinite going to be a completely different kind of Halo experience? Could Microsoft actually break up the single-player and multiplayer portions of the game and release them as two separate experiences?
• What Do We Know About Cyberpunk 2077? - Microsoft closed its E3 press conference this year by officially revealing Cyberpunk 2077 to the world for the first time. While this was a cool reveal trailer, it was the behind closed doors demo -- one that showed actual gameplay -- that had everyone talking about Cyberpunk's blend of The Witcher 3, Grand Theft Auto V, and Deux Ex in a sprawling futuristic RPG world. Is this game still targeting this generation?
• What's Going On With Fortnite and Cross-Play on the PS4? - With the release of Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch during this year's E3, gamers quickly realized that those playing the game on PS4 were unable to transfer their Epic account over to the Switch due to Sony's stance on cross-play with the PS4. While Sony's been bullish on not allowing cross-play between the PS4 and its rival consoles, with enough outcry, is this something they'll soften their stance on?
• Where Were All the Missing Games at This Year's E3? - Rocksteady's next game, Metroid Prime 4, Yoshi, the return of Splinter Cell, Square Enix's Avengers Project, and Final Fantasy VIII Remake were all conspicuous by their absence at this year's E3. Will we see any of these games anytime soon?
• Our Favorite Games of E3 2018 - What were the ten games that caught our attention the most during this year's E3? Find out as the fellas construct their lists of the most exciting things they saw coming out of this year's show.
• E3 Prediction Results - The conferences have come and gone, the dust has settled, and Judge Bender has spoken. After a rough round of predictions, who came out on top?

Podcast #160: Black Ops 4 MP Reveal, New Star Fox Rumor, & Is State of Decay 2 Another Dud For Xbox?
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
The full squad is back this week! Join Brent, Ben, Bender, Frankie as they once again get together to talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
• Black Ops 4 Revealed - Activision and Treyarch have lifted the veil on this year's Call of Duty, and as rumored, the game will not include a traditional single-player campaign. It will include, however, a robust multiplayer suite, an enhanced Zombies offering, and the first ever Call of Duty Battle Royale mode. The only question now is, just how many players will Battle Royale support in Black Ops 4?
• Rumor: Retro Studios is Working on a Star Fox Racing Game - Several outlets reported this past week that, according to their sources, Retro Studios -- the team behind Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns -- is hard at work on a Star Fox racing game described as "Diddy Kong Racing meets F-Zero." Is this what fans want to see next from Retro?
• Pokemon Switch Rumors - A number of rumors surfaced last week concerning the first Pokemon game (s) to hit the Switch, including reports that it is a remake of Pokemon Yellow from the Game Boy Advance, and that it stars Pikachu and Eevee as starter Pokemon. It's also said to include integration with the Pokemon GO app. Would the first Pokemon game to grace the Switch really be a remake of a GBA game?
• Rage 2 is Official - As promised, Bethesda officially announced Rage 2 on Monday with a wicked trailer full of over-the-top action. Developed by Avalanche Studios in partnership with Id Software, the team behind the underrated Mad Max, Rage 2 is said to be an open world shooter set on a sprawling post-apocalyptic Earth. With Avalanche heading up development on Rage 2, does that free up Id to focus on DOOM 2?
• Ubisoft News - The Division 2, The Crew 2, and an "unannounced franchise title" are all set to release this fiscal year prior to April 2019. With The Division 2 expected to drop sometime in March, does this mean it will be going to toe-to-toe with EA and Bioware's Anthem? Just how many "games as a service" titles can the industry support? Also, might Ubisoft's "unannounced franchise title" be a new Splinter Cell??
• Deep Silver Delays - Publisher Deep Silver announced delays for two of its biggest upcoming titles this past week: Metro: Exodus and Shenmue III. While the Shenmue delay was expected, many were hoping that Metro: Exodus would be out this fall. With all of the big time titles do out before the end of the year, is this delay a blessing in disguise for Metro: Exodus?
• 2K Delays a Major Title - In more delay news this past week, 2K announced to investors that it has delayed a "highly anticipated title" from one of its biggest franchises. This has to be Borderlands 3, right?
• Plus this week's new releases, what we've been playing, and tons more!

Podcast #159: E3 Leaks, RDR 2 Owns the Fall, & What Sony's E3 Plans Could Mean for PS5
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
After scheduling conflicts derailed last week's show, we're back with another exciting episode of the Short Pause Gaming Podcast! Join Brent and Ben for a two-man show this week as they once again get together to talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
• Red Dead Redemption 2 Looks Epic - The third trailer for Rockstar's Western-themed opus is out in the wild as excitement continues to build for Red Dead Redemption 2's impending October release. In a year chock full of excellent video game titles, could Red Dead Redemption 2 be the year's best when all is said and done? Will this be Rockstar's biggest game ever, both content wise and commercially?
• E3 Leaks - 'Tis the season! After a Walmart Canada flub set the internet on fire early last week, fans are left wondering just how many of the games they posted to their site (from Splinter Cell to Forza Horizon 5 of all games) are legitimately real titles. With Bethesda all but confirming Rage 2 at this point, was this Walmart leak an early preview of what we can expect at this year's E3?
• Sony Previews E3 Press Conference - In a rare move, Sony has come out and set expectations for this year's PlayStation Showcase at E3. Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Marvel's Spider-Man, and The Last of Us Part II will all be featured prominently during the show, but no new first party games will be revealed and no new hardware will be shown. Third-party and independent developers will have a presence unveiling new titles, however. With no new first-party titles on the docket to unveil to the masses, how close are we to the eventual reveal and launch of the PS5?
• Nintendo Switch Online Detailed - Nintendo has revealed a few more concrete details surrounding their upcoming paid online service. From cost, to classic NES games, to cloud saves, Nintendo's service, while priced well, will not be the most robust online platform out there. Is this enough to get fans to pay for their online service? Will their be any backlash after the service has been free for the last year and half by the time this launches? And where's the Virtual Console??
• Days Gone on the Cover of Game Informer - All throughout the month of May, Game Informer is blowing the lid off of Sony Bend's mysterious action-adventure game. Days Gone is set to debut in early 2019, the game should at minimum take about 30 hours to complete, and your motorcycle is fully upgradeable! As Game Informer continues to unveil more information about the game, including the game's first hour, will Days Gone have what it takes to overcome supposed zombie fatigue in the industry?
• CD Projekt Red to Bring Cyberpunk 2077 to This Year's E3 - All signs are pointing to CD Projekt Red's latest opus finally making its debut at this year's E3. Just how much of this game might we see, and who will end up with the marketing deal for this assuredly huge title?
• Battlefield V to Have a Single-Player Mode - As anticipated, Battlefield is looking to take advantage of the fact that Call of Duty will be lacking a single-player campaign in this year's Black Ops 4. Will Battlefield V's campaign run back the vignette style of storytelling we saw in Battlefield 1? Also, is EA set to reveal Battlefield V on May 23?
• Microsoft Focusing on First-Party Development - A job listing has alluded to a focus on AAA first-party exclusives for Microsoft and Xbox. Will we see Microsoft doubling down on new IP and multiplayer? Will they roll the dice on an epic new single-player IP? Will they look to reinvent old stalwarts like Gears of War and Halo? So many questions! Will E3 give us any answers?

Amidst all of the big time exclusives still to release for the platform, is 2020 the right year for the PS5 to release?
• Shenmue I &I II Coming to Current-Gen Consoles - In a surprise move that has fans elated, Sega has revealed that they are bringing the first two Shenmue games to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in the near future. How much of a remaster will this version of the game be? Will this come to the Switch at some point?
• A Top Secret Bioshock Game Could be in Early Development - During a Kotaku report detailing the current status of Mafia III developer Hangar 13 this past week, it was revealed that a top secret Bioshock game under the code name of "Parkside" is potentially in active development. Should Bioshock as a series continue on without the presence of its creator, Ken Levine? Also, are leaks a bad thing for this industry?
• Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Arrives in July - Capcom has officially dated the Mega Man X Legacy Collection for this July and released a trailer that outlines what can be found on each of the collections bringing together the entire Mega Man X saga for the first time on current-gen consoles. Will this collection turn out as well as the original Mega Man Legacy Collection did?
• Rare Outlines Upcoming Sea of Thieves Plans - Rare has outlined its Sea of Thieves content plans for the next few months, including new areas to explore, more activities to participate in, new events, and lots more. Is this the kind of content update that Sea of Thieves needs? Will this address gamers' concerns around progression and variety?

How has Nintendo's increased focus on independent development benefited the Switch?
• Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Will Not Feature Multiplayer - In a report out of Eurogamer this week, they've confirmed that not only is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered a real thing, but its apparently going to launch without any multiplayer support as well. Podcast #154: New Tomb Raider Announced & Will BLOPS4 Have A Battle Royale Mode?
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
This week, the gang's all here! Join Brent, Ben, Bender, and Frankie as they once again get together to talk the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
• Sea of Thieves Launches Tuesday - Rare's long-awaited pirate-sim arrives this Tuesday, and the fellas are ready for the festivities. Will Sea of Thieves deliver on its immense potential?
• Shadow of the Tomb Raider Releases September 14 - Lara Croft's next adventure has been officially confirmed for September of this year. Will the lack of an exclusivity deal and an earlier fall release date spell success for the final part of this rebooted origin trilogy?
• Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Rumored - An Amazon Italy listing has pointed towards the release of a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, possibly for as low as $19.99 this Spring. Is there a chance Activision would re-release this game as a standalone title next month? And, at $19.99, does this run the possibility of not being the full version of the game?
• Activision "Keenly Aware" of Battle Royale Genre Success - Activision is not blind to the overwhelming success of titles such as PUBG and Fortnite. Is it only a matter of time before we see a battle royale mode in something like Call of Duty? Is there a chance we see something as soon as this year's Black Ops 4?
• Geralt Joins the Cast of Soul Calibur VI - Bandai Namco's highly anticipated weapons-based fighter just got a high profile guest fighter added to the roster in the form of Geralt of Rivia. How will Geralt fit in with the rest of the eclectic cast?
• Bluepoint's Next Game is Even Bigger Than Shadow of the Colossus - Bluepoint's next game is another remaster, and this one is set to be even bigger than their last Herculean effort. What game could they possibly be remastering next?
• Splinter Cell Rumors - Last week, and Amazon listing sprung up for Splinter Cell 2018, possibly foreshadowing the return of Sam Fisher later this year. With the recent rumors surrounding Ubisoft Toronto and Splinter Cell, is there a good chance we see the next Splinter Cell at Ubisoft's E3 presser this June?

Podcast #153: BLOPS4 & The Division 2 Announced, Days Gone Delayed, & Nintendo Direct Breakdown
Episode in
Short Pause Gaming Podcast
t's another exciting episode of the Short Pause Gaming Podcast! This week, Brent and Ben are back with a two-man show as they once again dive into the latest and greatest in the world of gaming. Topics this week include:
Nintendo's Latest Direct is Chock Full of New Info - Nintendo packed a lot into its latest 35-minute Direct presentation. From Mario Tennis Aces and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Switch, to new Splatoon 2 DLC and the surprise confirmation that a new Smash Bros. will hit Switch later this year, there was a lot to like here if you're a Nintendo fan. The big question now is, will this be a brand new entry in the Smash Bros. series for the Switch, or a "deluxe" port of the Wii U/3DS game?
Diablo III on Switch? - Blizzard seems to be teasing Diablo III for the Switch, but nothing has been confirmed at this point. Is the legendary dungeon-crawler a good fit for Nintendo's handheld/console hybrid?
Activision Confirms Black Ops 4 - In a bit of an early-2018 surprise, Activision has not only confirmed that this year's Call of Duty will be Black Ops 4, but that it will be releasing worldwide on October 12, several weeks earlier than the series' typical early November launch. Is even the mighty Call of Duty attempting to get out of the way of Red Dead Redemption 2 and its late-October release date?
Ubisoft Announces The Division 2 - In a strange, low-key announcement without the expected fanfare, Ubisoft has confirmed that work is well underway on The Division 2, and that it will make an appearance at this year's E3. Will The Division 2 learn from Destiny 2's mistakes and build upon the solid momentum they've garnered with the first game over the last year?
Bungie Details Crucible and Sandbox Changes Coming to Destiny 2 - As Bungie continues to emphasize their communication with fans, their weekly blogposts continue to get more and more detailed. This week, the veteran developer laid out its plans for a faster, more exciting Crucible, and a host of anticipated buffs for the game's weapons and perks. Is Bungie continuing to move in the right direction with these game changes?
State of Decay 2 Releases in May - Undead Labs' highly-anticipated sequel, State of Decay 2, has a release date. It'll arrive on May 22 for the low, low price of $29.99. Despite its cheaper than expected price tag, should gamers expect anything less than a AAA-experience?
Days Gone Delayed - Sony has officially confirmed that Sony Bend's epic post-apocalyptic adventure, Days Gone, is now a 2019 title. With so many amazing titles still planned for 2018, is this move to 2019 for Days Gone a bad thing, or might this be a blessing in disguise in terms of the game's exposure in the long run?
