Ep. 50 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Episode in Simon's Cake
*tap tap* (microphone feedback) This thing still work? Well well, it's been quite a long time now hasn't it? It's been an incredibly busy year for Kamille and Joe. Turns out having a baby and moving can derail even the most concrete of plans, and also doesn't leave as much time for gaming or podcasting as we'd like. We're hoping to get back in the podcasting game soon, and have a few ideas of games we'd like to cover. But for now enjoy this timely episode of 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild was developed and published by Nintendo of course, directed by Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and was composed by Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata, and Hajime Wakai. Listen along as hosts Kamille, Joe, and Adrian gush about what makes this one of the greatest games ever made. From the artwork, sense of adventure, to the amount of experimentation the game allows, the game is truly one of the best. It's not all peaches and cream though, as Joe is very critical of the stamina system and breakable weapons in the game. Although Adrian does an admirable job of defending that decision. Enjoy! ~Simon's Cake Games~

Springcast 2017 - Simon's Cake Games

Episode in Simon's Cake
Hello All!   Today's podcast is a little different, instead of serving you a delicious meal of a podcast, we're giving you appetizers of games we've all played! Basically, we pick one game in the theme of action/platformer/fast-paced, and we talk about it in a non-spoiler fashion!   Now to address the "Springcast" part of this. We are starting a seasonal series where (as you may have guessed) for each season of the year, we play a game based on themes we pick for each season. Much like the Halloween episodes, we will all talk about different games without any spoilers to story or gameplay surprises. Think of it as a bookclub or gameclub, in the form of seasons of the year! Now to business, in our first ever Springcast, Kamille, Joe, George, Adrian, and first-time guest Eddy, talk about their games from what the game did right in their genres, to favourite moments. Kamille played They Bleed Pixels (2012), Joe overcame Furi (2016), George tackled Strider (2014), Eddy takes De Blob 2 (2011), and Adrian balances two games, Gunpoint (2013) and Mark of the Ninja (2012). Again, this podcast is spoiler free so enjoy at your leisure. I hope you enjoy this new entry and join us for the next one: Summercast 2017! Edward can be found on twitter @thatretrocode. Adrian's twitter is @Bojoxz. Joe's twitter is @RevenantThings, Kamille's is @Ladyoddity, and George's is @GeoGenesis999!

Ep. 45 Aero the Acrobat - Simon's Cake Games

Episode in Simon's Cake
Hello Internet! Have you been craving the hottest takes on gaming's best titles? Games that are on the bleeding edge of technology that change you fundamentally as a person after you play them? Games you can't shake from your mind no matter how hard you try? Well you won't find that here. Today we have an episode that was lost in the back of the shelf somewhere that was recently unearthed by Kamille for your enjoyment. This episode features Aero the Acrobat. You remember that unforgettable, lovable ball of fun right? Right?! Well one thing that's for sure... after being subjected to this game, we'll never forget him. Anyway, Aero the Acrobat was released in 1993 on an unsuspecting audience on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis platforms. It was the creation of the now defunct Iguana Entertainment and published by Sunsoft. The music was composed by Rick Fox. Hear the gang talk about how fair and forgiving the game is, what they liked and didn't like about the game overall, what they thought of the different levels and the structure and mechanics this game offers. There's some light spoiler talk mixed in there somewhere if you mind spoilers for this game but there's not much as a lot of the story is either detailed in the instruction manual, or meant to be inferred from the game itself. If you find yourself enjoying this episode, or any others of ours, feel free to leave a comment, rate us on iTunes, or follow any of us on the Twitter machine. For any and all updates on the podcast, follow us @SimonsCake. Kamille can be found @LadyOddity. George is @GeoGenesis999. Lastly, Joe is located @RevenantThings.

Ep. 44 Doom (2016) - Simon's Cake Games Podcast

Episode in Simon's Cake
Hello everyone! Today, hosts George and Joe are serving up an episode of Doom! They share their thoughts about why Doom (2016) is so good and distinguishes itself apart from other shooters today.  It's a very fast paced game that has a very old school flair to it. They also run down a few things that they didn't like too well about the game. One thing everyone can agree on, however, is the badassery (that's a word!) that is the music, which was composed by Mick Gordon.  This game was developed by id software and published by Bethesda Softworks. Although there isn't too much to spoil, we do get into them in our Story Mode (patent pending) section. There is ample warning before then so don't worry about any spoiler surprises and feel free to listen until then if you haven't played the game before. Feel free to leave any comments, questions, or any other feedback below. Did you have a favorite weapon, demon to fight, or level? Did it live up to your expectations? How does it fare against other shooters today? Let us know! You can follow us on Twitter @simonscake. George can be found  @geogenesis999. Joe can be found @revenantthings.

Ep. 42 Pony Island - Simon's Cake Podcast

Episode in Simon's Cake
Hello! Hello! 2017! What's up! New year, new episode. The wheels at Simon's Cake Games are turning. To welcome in the new year, we start with an episode we recorded at the end of last year. Hosts Kamille and George discuss Pony Island (2016 Daniel Mullins Games) and all it's mysteries. Do not let the name fool you, Pony Island is an experience for everyone, not just 5 year-olds... Wait, scratch that. It might not be the best thing to let your 5 year-old play this one. What I'm really trying to say is Pony Island was a great surprise last year. Kamille and I (George) were really glad we got to this one. Listen in to this episode and you will hear us praise the intense pony gameplay, awesome music, frustrating puzzles, and simple yet creepy atmosphere. The spoiler-free section in this episode is pretty short, but it's a great introduction to Pony Island if you haven't had the chance to look into this great indie game. After our spoiler-free, we dive right into our SPOILER section and go in depth on our thoughts about the game. We do warn ahead of time before that section begins. Thanks for listening!!!
