Reskilling at Scale | Jamie Albers & David Timis

I know a lot of people who had to #reskill and carve out new career pathways for themselves. It is very difficult! When the education is there, employers are not. When the employers are willing, governmental support is missing. We have tons of amazing free online education. But it is not recognized by businesses. There are incredible people who took the leap, learned something totally new. They need work experience to get started, but an internship is only for “fresh” graduates. And while we are complaining about talent shortages, we are not really willing to employ someone who has so drastically changed their career. Let someone else try first… Today’s podcast is about #reskilling, #education and #meaningfulcareers. My guests are two amazing people who are passionate about changing the world of work. They provide education, identify career pathways and support the transition of those who are experiencing major career shifts: ➔Jamie Albers, the co-founder of Mento (https://www.mento.co/about) ➔David Timis, the Global Communications Leader at Generation (https://www.generation.org/) To get in touch with them: - Jamie: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamiealbers/ - David: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidtimis/ We will talk about: ➔ The impact this past one and a half year has had on the job market ➔ The harsh realities of career transitioning for the re-skilled ➔ Transforming education to allow for multiple and diverse pathways throughout our lives ➔ The 4Cs needed to succeed in the world of work ❤️Help spread education for a resilient future!❤️ Support the Skills for Mars podcast here: ➜www.youtube.com/skillsformars (subscribe for free) ➜www.podhero.com (subscription fees are shared with content creators) ➜www.patreon.com/skillsformars (donations) - LinkedIn @skills for mars - Facebook @skillsformars www.skillsformars.com

The Hybrid Workplace - Power | Fairness | Trust: Mark Mortensen on Starting Remote

We have chosen HYBRID as the new way of work. HYBRID is challenging and faces the risk of inheriting the worst of the two worlds of work. What Makes People & Organizations Resilient? | Huggy Rao (Stanford BSG) - Building Resilience #06

Today we are looking through the lenses of sociology and psychology to answer two questions: 1. How can organizational culture act as a shock absorber & help companies rebound from adversities? 2. What makes individuals resilient? Together with Huggy Rao, Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at Stanford Graduate School of Business, we will: ✅ Discuss how "cultural protections" enable people and organizations respond to shocks ✅ Provide examples on how to activate the "best self" in each individual and how this will lead to increased resilience ✅ Emphasize the need to move from "a room called fear" to a "room called hope" for both individuals and organizations ✅ Moving away from Planning towards building the CARE-SHARE-DARE muscle in Organizations 🔷Professor Rao studies collective action within organizations and in markets. His research and by implication, his teaching, revolves around scaling up mobilization, innovation, and talent in organizations. 🔷His most recent book, co-authored with Bob Sutton of the School of Engineering at Stanford, is "Scaling Up Excellence". The book is a Wall Street Journal Bestseller and was included in the best business books to read in 2014 by Financial Times, Inc Magazine, Amazon, Forbes, Washington Post and the Library Journal. 🔷His research has been published in journals such as the Administrative Science Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science and Strategic Management Journal. He is also the author of “Market Rebels: How Activists Make or Break Radical Innovation”, Princeton University Press. 2009. ❤️Help spread education for a resilient future!❤️ Support the Skills for Mars podcast here: ➜www.youtube.com/skillsformars (free) ➜www.podhero.com (subscription fees are shared with content creators) ➜www.patreon.com/skillsformars (donations) - LinkedIn @skills for mars - Facebook @skillsformars - Instagram @skillsformars - Twitter @skillsformars www.skillsformars.com

The Secret to Resilience: Curiosity & Creativity | Agastya International – Building Resilience #05

Ordinary people achieving the extraordinary! This is an inspiring story showing how curiosity can be the spark for systemic educational transformation. Agastya International Foundation has started an educational movement in India driven by a "simple" mission - educating children by fuelling their curiosity and creativity. In 2020, through extreme conditions, they not only managed to reach the 15 million children in remote villages, but they managed to bring education to a different level. Seemingly ordinary people, a great deal of personal initiative, passion for their calling, care, friendship and true leadership - have transformed an organization into a movement. This is a must watch episode of the Building Resilience series hosting: - Ramji Raghavan - Founder and Chairman of Agastya International Foundation - Phanish Puranam - Professor of Strategy and Organizational Design at INSEAD To work with and learn more about Agastya International Foundation: - https://www.agastya.org/ - https://www.linkedin.com/in/ramji-raghavan-26736b3/ ❤️Help spread education for a resilient future!❤️ Support the Skills for Mars podcast here: ➜www.youtube.com/skillsformars (free) ➜www.podhero.com (subscription fees are shared with content creators) ➜www.patreon.com/skillsformars (donations) - LinkedIn @skills for mars - Facebook @skillsformars - Instagram @skillsformars - Twitter @skillsformars www.skillsformars.com

Resilience through Experimentation | Rajshree Agarwal & Constance Helfat on Building Resilience

What happens when multiple shocks hit us? Have we reflected on 2020 and what have we learned? Have we identified the cracks in our systems? How can we enable ourselves to be better prepared for the next crisis? ⛳️Uncertainty and complexity are states of nature. ⛳️We will never have full knowledge. ⛳️There are no templates to tell us exactly what to do. ⛳️We will always make mistakes. By acknowledging the above, we allow ourselves to experiment, place early bets, fail fast, and try again. We will acquire the missing information. We will figure out where the holes are and will be able to think ahead. Today, my guests are Rajshree Agarwal and Constance Helfat. RAJSHREE AGARWAL is the Rudolph Lamone Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy and Director of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the University of Maryland. Rajshree studies the evolution of industries, firms, and individual careers, as fostered by the twin engines of innovation and enterprise. She is currently the co-editor of the Strategic Management Journal and has previously served in co-editor and senior editor roles at Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and Organization Science respectively. Rajshree is a senior contributor at Forbes, providing insights for leading purposeful lives, strategy, and innovation. 📍 Is today’s cleverness good enough for tomorrow’s crisis? 📍 What can we learn from evolutionary biology to drive organizational resilience? 📍 Will remote work become a bottleneck for innovative exploration? 📍 What are the powers of experimentation and pivoting in complex systems? 📍 How does a mindset of skepticism and renewal keep us resilient? Welcome to a new episode of the unique Building Resilience series! This episode brings on an eye-opening discussion that will give you the opportunity to reflect on our organizations from a different angle than you have done before – that of a complex living system. My guest is Daniel Levinthal - Professor of Corporate Strategy at Wharton School – the University of Pennsylvania and one of the most prominent management scholars. His research has been pivotal and answered questions of organizational adaptation and industry evolution, particularly in the context of technological change. His papers remain some of the highest cited papers in management and social sciences in general. I hope you find value in the discussion. Yannis Angelis will answer all these questions. Yannis is a Story Practitioner.
