Backstage Pass – Meek The Servant!

Welcome to Backstage Pass!  Real Artists. Real Hip Hop. This is the show where we go behind the scenes with real hip hop artists and real hip hop. Every Thursday, we’ve got a brand new show of Backstage Pass! And today… We’ve got MEEK THE SERVANT on the hot seat! This week, we’re going behind the scenes with Meek The Servant. We’ll be talking to him about his music, his life, and why he does what he does! All About Meek The Servant As a young man growing up in the north side of Dallas in the early 90′s, it is not rare to be intensely influenced by the hip hop culture. Sedrick Thomas better known as Meek is by far the popular term a product of his environment, as he stated ” I remember at four years old waking up from surgery reciting Ll Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out, on the contrary although I was inspired by hip hop at the age of four My close relatives would always tell me I would be a minister one day, so I would go around mimicking preachers radically in a joking manner. Unknowingly that one day that prophecy would come to past, Surely for Meek it would latter down the line, but just as any other great man of God who had to experience some of life’s toughest hardships, as well as realize that a part from Christ and his kingdom life is meaningless. No surprise that linked to his deep passion for hip hop the street life seemed to go hand & hand. “I listened to cats like UGK, Z-Ro BIG Moe, Big Chief & felt as if I was no different from them, so if they smoked weed and rapped I did the same, if they sipped prescription cough syrup like the latest trend I did so as well. Meek goes on to say it was just a way of life to him, as for his older brother nicknamed by the hood “RO”, he was the neighbor dope boy a full time dope dealer, whatever u needed he had it or could get it. “He was in to trapping I was in to rapping getting high & making money”. While still in high school Meek started hanging around his big brother looking up to him as a role model figure, he watched him sale crack and cook it all day, until one day he sought the power and respect that his brother received and wanted the exact same thing, he hustled for a little while but it didn’t work, God had other plans for him, “I just realized it wasn’t for me I’m a rapper that likes to sip syrup and smoke dope trapping ain’t my thang”. However the streets still had a hold on him, he begun to steel and hit licks to take care of his daughter and buy more drugs until one day he was arrested. It became a cycle for the young rapper get out of jail go back to jail, until one day while sitting in the jail sell Meek realized that this just couldn’t be all that God had for him, it seemed as if those prophetic words from his family rung in his ear “You are a minister”. In 2009 Meek gave his life over to Christ married his daughter’s wife and begun to seek Jesus with his whole heart, however his passion for hip hop never left, he received a Gospel rap cd by Lecrae called “Rebel” couple of months later he was back in the studio with a passion to serve Christ his Lord through music and art. By the end of 2009 he recorded his first Gospel rap album entitled “New Creation” But he didn’t quite find his sound he didn’t quite combine his authentic Faith with his authentic hip hop persona well, so after a couple of years of studying the industry aspect of the culture of the Gospel rap genre, and growing in the knowledge of who Christ is, Meek begun to grow significantly in his craft. He found his own unique sound, and started his own movement alongside with his close fried Jerel called NA-US MG Not About Us Music Group, he’s now pursuing he’s sophomore album entitled “Heart Of Me” as well as releasing his mix tapes “Unfinished Business” series in the meantime. With holding small groups being a father of three and a husband and still serving in his church, Meek is looking forward to serving God’s people growing in his Faith and overall becoming a better man. Meek’s Music Meek just released a brand new album – “True Story” - which has an amazing back-story (yes Meek shares it on Backstage Pass) and some incredible music.  You can find it pretty much anywhere music is sold. Backstage Pass – GS!

Welcome to Backstage Pass!  Real Artists. Real Hip Hop. This is the show where we go behind the scenes with real hip hop artists and real hip hop. Every Thursday, we’ve got a brand new show of Backstage Pass! And today… We’ve got GS on the hot seat! This week, we’re going behind the scenes with GS. We’ll be talking to him about his music, his life, and why he does what he does! All About GS Born in 5th Ward Houston Texas, GS (which is an acronym for GodSon) was exposed to many things including poverty as a kid. Coming from a dysfunctional home where his dad abused his mother, he developed a toughness about himself that would pattern his teenage years. Moving from hood to hood, it seemed as if he could never get away from a lifestyle he never wanted to have. GS mother was an Evangelist but also a single mother of 5 which made it hard to provide financially, so he took things into his own hands. Knowing who God was since birth, GS overlooked the mercy and grace that Christ had given and began to entertain the street life. Also finding rap, it fueled his want for money and fame. But GS didn’t know that God would later on use what the enemy meant for bad, for HIS glory. After numerous jail visits and beating a case that would have given him prison time, GS finally stepped away from the streets. The more he performed at clubs, the more he began to realize that he was different. In 2010, GS life began to change. In 3 months, his life fell apart. He lost his family, his job, his home and even the will to want to live. One morning as GS was taking his last breath, he called out to God and he had a personal experience with Him. January 2011 GS gave his life to Christ and haven’t looked back since. Many trials and prayers later, GS has his own label “I’m Doin’ Jesus” and a ministry that reaches over 6,000 people daily in 18 countries (for now). Having experienced personally what secular rappers brag about, GS provides a more in depth look into the REAL reality through his music. Not only being Christ driven but also Christ led, GS has seen many lives changed through the ministry God has given him. Never wanting to be considered a “rapper”, GS reminds people that it’s more than that when he stated, “I don’t rap, I tell the truth, it just happens to rhyme”. Understanding that man doesn’t live forever but God’s word does, GS is honored to have been hand picked to represent Christ in this season. There is ONLY ONE WAY to get to the Father and that’s through his son…”I’m Doin’ Jesus”. Backstage Pass – DJ DMD!

Welcome to Backstage Pass!  Real Artists. Real Hip Hop. This is the show where we go behind the scenes with real hip hop artists and real hip hop. Every Thursday, we’ve got a brand new show of Backstage Pass! And today… We’ve got DJ DMD on the hot seat! This week, we’re going behind the scenes with DJ DMD. We’ll be talking to him about his music, his life, and why he does what he does! All About DJ DMD In 1996, DJ DMD released his first album, Eleven, independently. The album featured the now-deemed-classic release, “So Real”, which featured up and coming Houston hiphop artists, DJ Screw and his Screwed Up Click. In 1998, DMD and Inner Soul released, Twenty-Two: P.A.Worldwide, on the heels of the explosion of the album’s first single, “25 Lighters” which featured southern heavyweights Lil KeKe and the late Fat Pat and would become one of southern rap’s most known and sought after anthems. Twenty-Two went on to help Inner Soul garner national attention; which led to one of the largest indie-major deals of its time with the now-defunct Elektra Records. Words from “25 Lighters” would ultimately find their way into the 2012 song, “I Gotsta Get Paid” by the legendary rock-n-roll Hall of Famers, ZZ Top. In 2001, he and Inner Soul released the critically-acclaimed, Thirty-Three: Live From Hiroshima (…Hiroshima was the name of the state-of-the-art studio Inner Soul built as a result of the success they were having at the time) . The album contained another one of DMD’s revered and influential rap tunes, Mr.25/8. He would only release one more secular rap album, Forty-Four: 3rd Coast Classics Vol.1 (released independently in 2002), before making one of the hardest decisions he says he’s ever had to make: to leave his family, friends, and business because he felt his life was going in the wrong direction. So in October of 2002, he moved to Dallas and shortly afterwards to Houston – where he was hired to help try to turn another local indie label into a success. That deal lasted four months due to the label folding; leaving DJ DMD without a deal, a studio, and any direction for his future. Then in early 2003 things began to change. Dorie and his then ex-wife reconciled; and she and their kids moved to Houston to be with him so that they could begin again. After his spiritual awakening, DMD made the decision to not worry about his career in music but to focus on rebuilding his family’s faith in him and concentrate on “growing up.” He developed a passion for the Word of God; so much so that before he knew it 7 years had gone by. Then, while attending one of his church’s financial seminars, he says he heard “THAT Voice” again. This time It was telling him to reconsider doing music again. So, after taking time to pray, meditate, and wait on confirmation regarding “the assignment”, he took the leap of faith and on May 14, 2010, DJ DMD officially started e5 entertainment. Since starting e5 entertainment, DMD says, “I’ve watched God take a revelation from 2Kings 4 and, piece by piece, provide for the necessary things and people needed to bring our first project to fruition. From musicians, to studio owners (…seeing I didn’t have or have access to one), to artists, to financial backers, I’ve seen God prove His Word faithful time and time again. No wonder He’d inspire us to make our first release a song about His Word and Its life-changing power, #25BiblesOnMyDresser.” The single, which also features a new version of his deeply inspirational “Mr. 25/8??, is intended to introduce DJ DMD to the Christian Hip Hop genre, reacquaint him with the business he loved so much, and re-introduce himself to a fan base that continued to promote his secular works while he was learning to grow as a man. As stated earlier, e5 entertainment’s mantra is to provide God glorifying music and “edutainment.” More music, videos, a mini-documentary, and mission work centered around ministering primarily to young people are all things you can expect in the near future. DJ DMD, with his new direction of wanting to positively impact people, is making it abundantly clear: he does not want to go down in history as…Mr. 25 Lighters. The Music of DJ DMD DJ DMD has released two singles, with a third coming out in weeks!  He has a full length album on the way as well!  DMD shares about the singles on his recent EP and his upcoming album!  Go to DJ DMD’s website to check out his singles HERE or check out his singles on iTunes. Backstage Pass – K-Drama on the hot seat!

Welcome to Backstage Pass!  Real Artists. Real Hip Hop. This is the show where we go behind the scenes with real hip hop artists and real hip hop. Every Thursday, we’ve got a brand new show of Backstage Pass! And today… We’ve got K-DRAMA on the hot seat! This week, we’re going behind the scenes with K-DRAMA. We’ll be talking to him about his music, his life, and why he does what he does! All About K-Drama Born A. Regis Jones in Cincinnati, OH, he had a difficult childhood. In 7 years, he attended 5 different schools. Regis oftentimes felt neglected, so he lived for attention & affirmation. At Sunday service, he quoted Bible verses in hopes to impress members while at school he did the total opposite to impress his peers. Regis lived a double life. It wasn’t until his friend, Marquez Patterson died at the age of 13 of a heart failure that Regis had a rude awakening. He realized that life is short and no man knows when he’ll die. Hence, Regis became a born again Christian at Marquez’s funeral without an altar call. Through God, Regis sought out the purpose of his life. Without intentionally looking, Regis discovered part of his purpose through another Christian rapper performing at an out of town youth retreat. Though Regis never rapped prior to salvation, Regis was encouraged by the Holy Spirit to pursue rap ministry as a means to evangelize to sinners & encourage Christians in their walk. As Regis was penning songs, his Pastor, Ronny Lott, took note of his interest & invited Regis to perform in his 1st concert alongside Grapetree Records act, Preachas In Tha Hood. After a successful performance, Regis (now known as K-Drama) began ministering in outreaches, prisons, schools, churches, festivals & anywhere he had an opportunity to perform. Over time, he made 3 albums before signing his 1st recording contract with Holy Hip Hop Music/EMI Gospel. This spring boarded his career, opening many opportunities for him to spread the love of Jesus Christ through his music across the United States. His 5th album, BoomBaptism, garnered his most popular song to date, “Air Jordan” which was a phenomenon in the Christian Rap genre. This song was remixed over 70 times including “Kobe Bryant On Em’” by Sho Baraka which ended up being included on Sho’s latest album & featured K-Drama on the 3rd verse. Now signed, with premier record label, Cross Movement Records, K-Drama’s platform has been graciously extended, charging Christians to workout spiritually through his debut CMR release We Fit: The Workout Plan. Provident-Integrity/Sony Music distributes this album. K-Drama is a proud husband & father of 3 children. Him & his wife are active in their home church, desiring growth in themselves, their church body & the inner city surrounding them. Because of the generous support around the world, K-Drama is able to pursue music full time.  K-Drama is honored to be able to do all that he does. By trusting in the Lord, God has directed K-Drama’s path. The Music of K-Drama K-Drama has been doing music for quite a while.  He has 6 albums with his 7th coming out on Tuesday, September 24, 2013!  It’s called “Winds & .Waves” and it’s going to be AWESOME!  K-Drama shares the story behind the album and the meanings behind some of the songs on Backstage Pass.  You can check out samples NOW and then purchase the album on Tuesday HERE: “Winds & .Waves.” Get in touch with K-Drama Connect with K-Drama below!  PLEASE support his ministry and music. Backstage Pass – R-Swift on the hot seat!

Welcome to Backstage Pass!  Real Artists. Real Hip Hop. This is the show where we go behind the scenes with real hip hop artists and real hip hop. Every Thursday, we’ve got a brand new show of Backstage Pass! And today… We’ve got R-SWIFT on the hot seat! This week, we’re going behind the scenes with R-SWIFT. We’ll be talking to him about his music, his life, and why he does what he does! R-Swift R-Swift has been through a LOT in life.  He shares his journey through his younger years up until today and how God has played a major role in his life on the streets, locked up in prison, and as a rapper.  He started rapping for Christ around 1998-1999 and has been spreading encouragement through his music since. Swift has a HUGE passion for prison ministry and being an encouragement to the prisoners.  His mission and passion is to help the government, law enforcement, prison system, and communities to refocus back on rehabilitating those incarcerated rather than just locking them up and forgetting about them.  His ministry is amazing and EXTREMELY encouraging and challenging. The Music of Swift As I mentioned, Swift has been rapping for Christ since the late 90s.  He’s got a few albums out that you should check out!  His latest, “Apply Pressure,” is a powerful album written out of pain, despair, wanting to give up, feeling like a failure, but yet pushing through because God specifically told him he had a voice that people needed to hear and be changed by.  It’s a powerful story on the interview. Swift also shares the meaning behind the album cover image and, of course, the story behind the music of “Apply Pressure.” Get in touch with Swift Connect with R-Swift below!  PLEASE support his ministry and music. Backstage Pass – 5ive on the hot seat!

Welcome to Backstage Pass!  Real Artists. Real Hip Hop. This is the show where we go behind the scenes with real hip hop artists and real hip hop. Every Thursday, we’ve got a brand new show of Backstage Pass! And today… We’ve got 5IVE on the hot seat! This week, we’re going behind the scenes with 5ive. We’ll be talking to him about his music, his life, and why he does what he does! All About 5ive (Craig James) Raised in the small town of Earth Texas, 5ive became acquainted with drugs at a young age.  At the age of 13 he got saved at a Disciple Now event in Littlefield, Texas, but a couple years later he began to backslide. He struggled with addiction to marijuana and cocaine throughout his teenage years. By the time he was in his twentys he was addicted to crack cocaine and had been in and out of jail on drug charges. While serving a 180 day sentence, he made a vow to God that he would not smoke anymore marijuana when he was released. Upon his release. however, he did try and smoke but every time the guilt would be more than he could bare and he stopped smoking marijuana. Unfortunately, he did get back to doing cocaine and crack cocaine. He struggled with this addiction for about three years and it elevated, once again, to crystal meth. While on crystal meth one night, God began to deal with him through his addiction. That night he was arrested and taken to jail where he realized that God was calling him. He also realized that he was not even a man. Even though he knew God was calling him, he continued to run for another month, and for that entire month he was literally up the whole time on crystal meth. One night while he was up high on meth the Lord began to show him some things, and the next morning as he was watching a Praise-a-thon on television the man on the screen (Pastor Jamal Bryant) literally began to talk to him. That is when he knew he needed Jesus more than ever! He called on the name of Jesus and he and his wife surrendered their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ on Nov. 7th 2010. Ever since then he has been going hard for the Lord, preaching sermons, and doing outreaches with his ministry family James and Castillo ministries. Together they do the I’m On Fire Events. God connected him with The Bridge Ministries where they created the TBM Squad and where Craig James took on the name 5ive – the biblical number for grace. Shortly after the release of his debut Album “Amazin” was released, Craig was introduced to Ryan “Gritty” Vestal – the founder of Rep Tha King Ministries. They quickly formed a bond and it wasn’t long before Ryan asked Craig to come partner with him at Rep Tha King Ministries. After much prayer and counsel Craig and his wife Tiffany felt that the Lord was leading them to join Rep Tha King Ministries.  Ever since then the Lord has been opening up door after door for the their ministry! It’s been a year and a half since that decision and the obedience to the Lord has really been a blessing. Craig has toured all over the U.S. sharing his story of addiction, redemption, and Salvation. Craig James aka 5ive is now the CEO of Rep Tha King Ministries & Recordings and just released his Sophomore Album entitled “Ignition.” The Music of 5ive 5ive started rapping just a few years ago.  His first album, “Amazin,” was released in November of 2011 in just 2 weeks of writing and recording!  5ive just released his sophomore album, “Ignition,” on July 19th of this year and it is amazing!  He’s had an opportunity to work with various other rappers and musicians on his album and the result is stunning.  5ive shares about “Ignition” on Backstage Pass – the meaning behind it and what he hopes listeners will get out of the album. Get in touch with 5ive Connect with 5ive below!  PLEASE support his ministry and music. Feel free to connect with him on Facebook and Twitter! 5IVE’S WEBSITE 5IVE’S FACEBOOK 5IVE’S TWITTER 5IVE’S YOUTUBE 5IVE ON ITUNES 5IVE ON AMAZON

Organized Chaos – 8 14 13 – Robert in Sturgis, Annalicious and the application mystery, The Shadow with the candl...

Currently… on Organized Chaos Well, this is quite the episode of Organized Chaos.  With the insanity of what’s going on with the Thriving Three, not a minute goes by without some kind of adventure today… in fact, many minutes go by and, alas, not enough time is left for all of the topics hoping to be covered. However, The Shadow, Lil Bobby, and Annalicious to get into some great music topics (and song clips shared), some interesting happenings in personal lives, things learned throughout the week, and thoughts for encouragement. We’ve also been asking the question “What do YOU listen to? (Station 514 – The Rock, Alternative Radio 514, Organized Chaos, Backstage Pass, all of the above)” We want YOUR feedback!  Give us your thoughts in the comments below this post!  Or e-mail them to ontheair@station514.com or Facebook them! Backstage Pass, Station 514, Alternative Radio 514 Backstage Pass will be this THURSDAY on Jam The Hype!  We have 5IVE on the hot seat!!  He’s got a BRAND NEW ALBUM out called “Ignition!”  5pm CST! Join us! There’s some new music on Station 514 (the rock station).  Let the ear bleeding commence! Time to listen to Station 514′s BRAND NEW Alternative Station and GIVE FEEDBACK to ontheair@station514.com! Game Night, Nerddom, Sturgis, and the Application Caper The Shadow regails us with yet another successful and phenomenal game night while geeking out with fellow gamers.  The Shadow, while still going strong into the wee hours of the morning, looked over to find his teammates bleary-eyed and battle-worn… yet another embracing of the inner nerd. Annalicious tantalized us with the journey in applying for a substitute teaching position.  You think THIS show is Chaotic?!? Lil Bobby went to Sturgis on a video shoot.  What resulted was a story filled with intrigue and beauty, yet wrought with tension and chaos.  Well, regardless… it was scintillating. Simplifying As promised, The Shadow continues his brief thoughts on simplifying.  Just thoughts.  Not necessarily suggestions. Operating within Gifts and Talents While we’ve talked about this topic before, The Shadow had some interesting thoughts this week on another way of looking at the idea of “operating within your gifts and talents.”  Through the journey he’s been on mixed with acquired nuggets, he thought this would be encouraging.  Listen for more! ENJOY THE SHOW! ~ The Shadow, Lil Bobby, and Annalicious Thanks For Subscribing To Organized Chaos
