Straight from the art is a platform where we will bring to you Photographers & artists from India and around the world. We will have conversations about their journeys, their inspirations, the tools they use, and we hope to showcase some of their work. most importantly we want to bring to you the thought process behind their art. We hope you learn more about these artists, pick up some tips and tricks and get motivated to create your own art. At the least you should be exposed to newer ways of thinking and develop your own perspective, if nothing I hope you enjoy these conversations. I personally am really excited to share these with you.

Balancing the Yin & Yang in Photography: Conversation with Indian Fashion & commercial Photographer Rid Burman

In our second episode for Straight from the Art (Instagram @shreyasenphotography/ @sftatalks)  we had the honor of interviewing renowned fashion & commercial photographer R. Burman also known as Rid Burman. A known name in the editorial and fashion industry in India, someone who has always fought for the integrity of the visuals and to keep art alive in a world that often gives into pleasing what sells. He never hesitates to speak his mind and in this interview he has candidly shared some great gems about how the commercial world of photography works and how he has managed to balance his artistic voice and the needs of a commercial project. This interview was done in the times of Corona via Zoom so do excuse the imperfect sound. Please note the interview here is edited for this format to see the entire interview along with the work that Burman shared, do check our youtube link. We have also mentioned in the youtube info the names mentioned for reference during the interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLMUn6UfnsY&t=5296s We are glad Burman could take the time out and has shared so much for many of us starting off and are evolving as artists. If you would like to check more of his work. His website is www.ridburman.com and his instagram page is https://www.instagram.com/ridburman/ (For updates for future interviews follow us on instagram on @sftatalks or @shreyasenphotography)

Creating conceptual photobooks: Conversation with Photographer Akshay Bhoan

Our first interview for Straight from theArt series was with artist & photographer Akshay Bhoan. Akshay is an artist & photographer shuffling between New york, London & India. His work is focussed on the intimate study of trauma & memory. We really wanted to bring to you his current work Relapse- New york to highlight the possibility of creating work that is conceptual. That can be made with simple tools that are available to all of us.  His photographs were taken with a phone camera and the book was built with accessible material that even highlights the concept of the book. We hope these conversations inspires you to create your own work and  broaden your perspective about art and photography.  Since we recorded this in the times of the Corona lockdown, we decided to do this live on Instagram Live. This was a learning for us too and our next interviews will probably be more organized and better produced.  Do check our youtube channel to see the recording of the live episode and more of Akshay's work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrO6eZh9bt4&t=2218s Do tune into our instagram channel @shreyasenphotography & @sftatalks for further updates.  Like, subscribe & comment if you would like Akshay to answer any further questions would love to hear from you guys!
