Today, meet Dera  R.  Williams  who contributed her essay, "Not Shirley Temple Curls" to the anthology.  Dera lives,  works  and  plays  in  the  San Francisco Bay Area. A retiree of a local community college, she now mentors students in family history research. This Cali girl with Southern roots is a freelance writer and contributor to anthologies, journals and academic encyclopedias and is her family historian. Dera is co-author of the fiction book Mother Wit: Stories of Mothers and Daughters. She is completing a story collection about growing up in Oakland and a children’s book about Alzheimer’s disease. Her most recent publication can be found in the anthology Our Black Mothers, Brave, Bold and Beautiful. Today, meet Karin Esterhammer,  author of “So Happiness to Meet You: Foolishly, Blissfully Stranded in Vietnam” Karin worked for the Los Angeles Times as an editor, writer, and travel columnist for 15 years. In between, I published essays in the books Chocolate for a Woman’s Spirit and Chocolate for a Mother’s Heart. And—this is a little bit embarrassing—I won a Harlequin Books romance essay contest.   She has also written for numerous publications, including Asia Life magazine;  Chicago Tribune; Baltimore Sun; Christian Science Monitor; Augusta Chronicle; Los Angeles Daily News; Orlando Sentinel; The Standard—China’s Business Newspaper; and earlier in my career, a bunch of tiny newspapers across the country that I’m pretty sure still owe her money.
