Tech Talk #003 Joey Andrews | Arkadelphia School District

This is a fun show by two IT sales reps trying to add some color to the DMR [Direct Market Reseller] world.\n\nIn it they interview customers and prospect clients on good IT planning and implementation strategies.\n\nEnjoy this episode with Joey Andrews. He is the IT Director over at Arkadelphia School District.\n\nWhen did you get interested in technology?\n\nBack in college in the 80\'s Joey began to get interested in technology. He started at Arkadelphia School District back in 2005.\n\nWhen he first started the district had Pentium III\'s and Windows 98! I remember those days as a gamer in highschool.\n\nWhat hobbies do you have besides deploying systems and implementing switches?\n\nJoey likes to hunt and fish. He also enjoys watching his kids play baseball.\n\nStar Wars or Star Trek? And Why?\n\nStar Trek! Because Star Trek is based on a human future.\n\nCurrent / new technology you like:\n\nJoey like their new chromebooks although they have apple too. However, he is not a fan of Apple because of the price and difficulty managing them with active directory.\n\nBest IT moves of 2014-2015 YTD?\n\nGetting a \'Metro Area Network\' and switching to fiber for bandwidth. The school is going to 500 Megs of bandwidth this year [good for a school in Arkansas with 2,000 students].\n\nHe also is glad he went with Aerohive for their wireless network although he states that xirrus wireless is a bit easier to program.\n\nBiggest Lesson learned?\n\nIf Joey was able to go back to himself 10 years ago right when he started he would have told himself to not go to a 1-1 initiative [New Tech] until he had been able to fully implement a wireless system. His recommendation is to have 1 AP to classroom [1 AP : 15 Clients runs the best].\n\nHe says that you also need to watch out for cable companies that will be over redundant on the amount of cable you need.\n\nWhat brands do you like and why?\n\nJoey has used HP, Lenovo, and Dell. His favorite manufacturer for client is Dell.\n\nIf you were on a tropical island and could only bring 1 piece of technology – what would it be and why?\n\nJoey would bring his Dell Laptop - that is all he really needs. He would watch YouTube and Netflix.\n\nGO TO http://techtalkinterviews.com/techtalk003/ to see the funny video short from this interview.\n\nAND VISIT http://techtalkinterviews.com/ for more great interviews.

Tech Talk 001 Darrell Parks | Hoxie School District

This is a fun show by two IT sales reps trying to add some color to the DMR [Direct Market Reseller] world. \n\nIn it they interview customers and prospect clients on good IT planning and implementation strategies. \n\nSHOW NOTES\n\n\"This is a Tech Talk Interview with your hosts Trip Nine and John Giordano.\"\n\nEnjoy our first episode with our good friend and customer Darrell Parks. He is the IT Director over at Hoxie School District.\n\nWhen did you get interested in technology?\n\n@ age 13 when 20 GB was the largest hard drive capacity one could afford, Darrell was at a garage sale with his grandmother and bought his first computer.\n\nWhat hobbies do you have besides deploying systems and implementing switches?\n\nRacing Miada\'s, there is a local Miata club that Darrell is apart of. Darrell has done racing, drifting, and has a blast with his club. \"You got to have a way to take off the stress\". This is a good way.\n\nDarrell is also a gamer, first big game he liked was Starcraft.\n\nStar Wars or Star Trek? And Why?\n\nStar Trek! Star Wars has used the green screen too much.\n\nWho do you think would win in a battle – Star Trek or Star Wars? \n\nCheck out http://gizmodo.com/who-would-win-in-an-all-out-battle-star-wars-or-star-t-1676075613 and comment below :)\n\nCurrent / new technology you like:\n\nDarrell likes the new intel Widi technology [display cast technology]. Listen in to find out why.\n\nBest IT moves of 2014-2015 YTD?\n\nHoxie like any school deals with software updates a lot. In the past they would get the updates and put them on the server [it was time consuming]. They switched to a product called Ninite which helped a lot with the time consuming factor of the updates.\n\nHoxie is also moving to Cat6 connections to increase their network speed. This is another win for the district.\n\nBiggest Lesson learned?\nHoxie IT is a well run shop. Darrell’s advice is to just make sure you are keeping your teachers happy :) The way that he looks at it is he is running a business within a business – he needs to keep his customers [the teachers] happy so everyone will be happy.\n\nWhat brands do you like and why?\nDarrell has worked with Lenovo for a long time so it seemed like a natural fit when he moved over to his position at Hoxie.\n\nIf you were on a tropical island and could only bring 1 piece of technology – what would it be and why?\nAfter thinking about it, Darrell said He would bring over a high powered radio to call for help [love the practical mindedness]. :)\n\nGO TO http://techtalkinterviews.com/techtalk001/ to see the hilarious video shot we did from this interview.\n\nAND VISIT http://techtalkinterviews.com/ for more great interviews.
