EP47 - The Definition Of Insanity

This week of The KiteFit Project I talk about one of my favourite sayings of all time, it goes something like this.  The Definition Of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result; Albert Einstein.  Now you might be wondering how the hell am I going to relate this back to kiting, fitness or adventure? Well, it's all pretty obvious once I break it down, but you'll have to listen to the podcast to find out more.  So please listen to this episode, leave a review on iTunes and share this podcast with all your buddies.  Until next episode,  Stay safe and Go Big!  Cheers  Brayden    This week's winner of the #thekitefitproject competition is: Henry Jackson aka "@hungryjack5" on Instagram Be sure to check out his awesome IG post here.  While you're there give him a follow as well!   If you want to be next week's #thekitefitproject competition winner where you can get your Instagram account promoted and shared to thousands of other kiters and fitness enthusiasts then be sure to use the hashtag #thekitefitproject on your next Instagram post!

EP45 - The KiteFit Project and The Perfect Control Bar

Hello and welcome to the first ever episode of The KiteFit Project. It has been a long time coming but the change is here.  Before I go any further I just wanted to say a massive thank you! We have hit 10 000 DOWNLOADS :-)  I know it's very exciting, well for me anyway, but needless to say, I couldn't have done it with all my awesome listeners so from the bottom of my heart thank!  In this episode, I talk about changing from The Adrenalin Rush Podcast to The KiteFit Project, what the future will in-tale and much much more.  Once we get passed the first 8 mins about The KiteFit Project we get into what ended up being a pretty lofty conversation about bar design and what you should consider when you're looking at purchasing a bar. I break bar design down into a few sections:  Size of bar and length of lines 4 line vs 5 line vs 6 line Above the bar depower vs below the bar vs rear line adjusters Swivels  Bar ends and floats Overall Construction  I also give you a little Idea what I think would be the perfect bar and what bars/brands are really killing it in bar design and usability. So thanks again for listening to another episode of The KiteFIt Project. Please don't forget to use the hashtag #thekitefitproject on your next Instagram post to join our community of like-minded shredders!  Until Next Week Stay Safe and Live Large  Brayden Smith  braydensmith.com.au kitefit.com  Brayden Instagram Brayden YouTube

So You Want To Get Sponsored?

Getting sponsored by a brand or becoming a team rider for a shop is something I'm sure most young fellas and lasses consider or even aspire to throughout their kiting journey. It's something that I certainly focused on from pretty much day one ha.   Although I view sponsorship and becoming a "Pro" differently now, I believe that the principles of scoring a sponsor or even trying to get involved with a new business or project are exactly the same, it's all about providing value.  So without giving too much away I strongly recommend giving this episode a listen.  If you find this episode valuable or interesting please feel free to subscribe on Soundcloud and or iTune and tell all yo friends :-) Thanks again guys,   Until Next Time, Stay Safe, Go Big and Smile Flat Out.   Brayden    Subscribe to Kevin Langeree Youtube Channel  - https://www.youtube.com/user/Langeree Subscribe to Jake Kelsick Youtube Channel -  https://www.youtube.com/user/shattajah

EP43 - Its Time For Change

This episode is a very pivotal moment for myself and the Adrenalin Rush podcast. If you haven't yet heard, we are trying to sell Adrenalin Rush. In this episode, I open up why and how we came to decision to sell, what my plans are for the future, how I will still be involved in the kiting industry and how I dealt with burnout and how you can do the same.  There was a while there where I didn't know if I would continue this podcast. I was constantly exhausted from work, and life really ha and unfortunately I just didn't have the desire to put effort into it, which obviously explains my lack of consistency of late. In the past few weeks, though, especially after we announced that we are selling Adrenalin I did a bit of self-reflection as I do. I sat down and thought about why I started podcasting, to begin with. I put myself in the position of a beginner kiter or beginner gym goer and asked myself, would I have liked to listen to something like this when I was learning my craft, the answer being absolutely.  So, I have decided to continue the podcast. However, there is going to be a few small changes, which is more cosmetic than anything else. I will be changing the name and artwork. Instead of running it under Adrenalin Rush, it will be something like, "Talking Kiting and Fitness" with Brayden Smith but this isn't the final name yet. The Artwork will eventually change as well as the intros and outros, but from a topic and structural point of view, everything will be the same.  So I will most definitely be letting everyone know more about this in the future but in the meantime, please have a listen to this episode and leave me your thoughts via whichever platform you consume this podcast.  Have a great weekend, get out of the water, stay safe and go big!    Regards  Brayden Instagram - @braydeksmith  Facebook - @mrbraydensmith Website - https://www.braydensmith.com.au

EP42 - How to make 2017 EPIC!

Hey Crew I'm Back :-)  What's been happening? It's been a while between drinks ha! Thanks for tuning into the 42nd episode of the Adrenalin Rush Podcast. In this episode, I kick things back off again and talk about setting SMART goals for 2017. Now whether you're trying to figure out your new year's resolution still or you're trying to get a trick list down for your kiting setting SMART goals is a very simple and effective way to go about things. So if you don't know what SMART stands for I shall indulge. S - Specific M - Measurable A - Achievable R - Realistic T - Timed To give this episode context I use my 2017 resolution as an example; then I talk about how you can break down your trick lists or racing commitments into smaller simpler steps. Thanks for tuning in and I can't wait to hear about all your successful 2017 resolution stories! Regards Brayden   Headspace https://www.headspace.com Way Of Life http://wayoflifeapp.com

Episode 41 - Do You Get A Tight Lower Back When Paddling?

Paddling is a pretty physically demanding sport, especially when you start to get into the training and racing side of things. As a beginner, your body goes through a period of physical adaptation that is to be expected. As you start to become a bit more seasoned however you would assume that all the pain and stiffness you feel should subside as you become more "paddle fit". In this episode, I talk about battling that annoying lower back pain that you might get from time to time. Getting a stiff and sore back has been something I have been dealing with for the last couple months now, but after a bit of a break-through session this morning I think I might have figured my issues out.  I hope you enjoy this episode, and apologies if I ramble on too much about anatomy.  Have a great day and an even better weekend.  Regards Brayden

EP40 - Just Relax Bro

Kitesurfing is known for being an extreme " Adventure" sport which, I have to admit it definitely can be depending on which discipline you head down. There is, however, no more daunting task than trying to learn how to kite in ones kitesurfing career. I mean you can go and mega loop at big bay all day, which is intense but I bet that you were more scared / intimidated about learning to fly a big kite for the first time over doing hectic loops.  In this episode, I talk about one fault I see all too often, being too tense. The one thing I am always trying to get across to my students when we go through lessons is how your body language can influence the kite, and how nice relaxed and fluid motion will help you master your kite flying abilities faster and with a lot fewer dramas.  I hope you enjoy this episode. It's short sharp and to the point.  Have a great weekend! Regards Brayden

EP 38 Are You A Bit Lost With Your Training?

There is a heap of different training programs out there, and for someone that is a bit of a fitness novice, it can be overwhelming trying to decide which avenue to head down.  In this episode, I walk you through my current mindset and how you should decide which physical training methodology to do. The thing is, though, I unless you want to achieve something very specific I don't believe you should pigeon hole yourself into one demographic.  Throughout the next 40mins of this episode I cover a couple of key areas:  1. How to exercise self-awareness in regards to your physical strengths, weaknesses, and goals. 2. How you can create your very own, individualized training program that caters for your exact goals.  3. How you can make sure that what you're doing is working.  4. How you can stay motivated for the long haul.    I'm going to keep this description pretty short because I think you need to listen to this episode and not just read the notes.  So thanks again for listening in, I hope you enjoyed this one; I am certainly passionate about this topic.  Stay safe on the water!  Regards Brayden

EP37 - Get A Grip, Wax vs Traction Pads

There is seriously nothing more frustrating than having a foot slip off your board when you're cruising along, dropping into a wave or when you're trying to land a strapless air.  In this episode, I decided to do a little review on this new traction pad that ordered a few days back. This new full deck style traction pad is from WMFG.co (link below). From the moment I took off on my first tack, I knew this new traction pad was pure gold. I felt glued to my board. I wasn't worrying about foot placement or doing the splits; it was great. This episode is a bit of a mash-up between a Pros and Cons assessment, a review, and a session summary. However, if you have been interested in getting a full traction pad for your board, I highly recommend you check out WMFG.co.  Thanks again guys, it's been real!  Until next week, stay safe and get stoked!  Regards Brayden  WMFG.Co  http://wmfg.co/products/wmfg-traction-six-pack-kiteboard-full-deck-pad

EP36 - What Motivates You To Become A Better Kiter?

Motivation can be something that you struggle with on a day to day basis, especially when it comes to work and doing things you dislike, however understanding what motivates you to get out there and progress your kiting is something we don't want to shy away from.  Just like anything in life we often have different influencing factors that drive us towards our goals. In this episode, I do a little be of reflection upon my short kiteboarding career (for lack of a better term) and how my ambitions have changed as I mature as a kiteboarder. The 5 points that motivated me to become the best I can be, were / are: I wanted the adventure and the lifestyle  I wanted to be recognized I wanted to be an ambassador for kiting I wanted to have fun I wanted to reconnect with my youth I hope this episode helps you regain your motivation to hit the water, progress and have fun!  Regards Brayden

EP35 - Do You Suffer From Shoulder Pain?

Honestly who hasn't had shoulder pain? I have had my fair share that's for sure. In this episode I really wanted to make it as practical as possible, so if your listening to this while driving I would recommend waiting until you get home before you try any of the drills I talk about.  Shoulder pain seems to come so easily and can be so hard to get rid of. In this episode, I share a bit of knowledge about the rotator cuff group and how we can release some of the tension in this area.  The four muscles, in particular, I will be referring to are: The Supraspinatus  The Infraspinatus   The Teres Minor  The Pec Minor  I implore you to give the trigger point therapy drills I talk about in this episode a go; I promise it will make a dramatic improvement.  Kind Regard Brayden

EP34 - Manual Therapy For Kiteboarders and Stand Up Paddlers

"How great is it that us humans never get stiff, sore or suffer from pain and injury," said no one ever!  Pain and injury are just a part of life so we should just have a teaspoon of cement and get over it right? Wrong!  I hate it when people tell me that they have been suffering from a dodgy shoulder or sore back for 18 months, its is the most blatant form of neglect out. Unfortunately, people just don't care enough or frankly are just too lazy to go and see a professional about getting their problems rectified.  In this episode, I give you my two cents on deep tissue massage and chiro. Here is a little spoiler alert, I am a massive fan of both forms of therapy. What I even do just to help you out is offer some referrals to 2 of the best masseuses and chiros in Mackay, that I have dealt with anyway.  So the next time you are stiff and sore from a hectic session on the water or you have just had enough of feeling limited and broken go and see these awesome therapists below!  Clint Mayer - Discover Chiropractic 33 Malcomson St (07) 4953 5953 Pier Tierney Discover Chiropractic 200 Nebo Rd (07) 4998 5664 Rick Fitzgerald - DMTM Massage - 0419 703 324 Mary - Snap Fitness Mackay - 7 Discovery Lane 0421 686 866  Note: I am not getting paid for this, I just wanted to help you out by recommending the best of the best in Mackay.  I hope you enjoy this episode and if you have any further recommendations please comment below.  Regards Brayden

EP33 Braydo's Tips And Tricks For New Kiters (Part 1)

Hey Crew, Its been a while since I have done a tactical, practical episode about kiteboarding so today I thought I'd mix things up and try something different. In this episode, I go over seven tips and tricks you pick up along the way as new kiters. Often you don't figure these things out until you have stuffed up, that's where I step in. This episode is called Braydo's tips and tricks for new kiters (Part 1). Every dozen episodes or so I will drop back in and give another handful of small little tips you can use to make your kiting more stress-free. The main points I cover today are: 1.Wax your bag zippers 2.Always open your QR and flush out with fresh water. 3.Replace board screw with stainless steel Allen key screws. 4.Use a compression bag or kite sock for kite and backpack for wet gear. 5. Always pull QR to the bar first before wrapping lines up. 6. Don't use the same bar for a small kite and a big kite. 7. Put sunscreen on your pump shaft. I hope you get a little bit out of this episode. Also like I mention in this podcast if you have any other little tips or tricks we can all learn from please leave a comment below. EP32 - How To Get Back Into The Gym Safely After Having Some Time Off

Getting back into the gym after an extended period off can be a very overwhelming and painful process. I've been there, you've probably been there, and unfortunately, it's something we will experience a few more times over the course of our life. Getting back up and running (or lifting) doesn't need to be such a painful process though and with a few keys points that I cover in this weeks episode I'm sure we can help you get back on the "Gain Train" faster than you expected. In this episode, I cover a few specific points in particular. These points are: - What to expect? - How to plan for your return to the gym or to exercise in general. - How to increase volume and intensity without increasing pain or soreness within the first 4-8 weeks. I break each point into sub points to make it all easier to digest but you'll have to listen to the podcast to find out what they are ;-). I hope you enjoy this episode. EP30 - The One Piece Of Gym Equipment Every Paddler Should Be Using!

There is only a handful of ways to be faster as a paddler.  You become more efficient with your stroke and overall technique. You get a faster board and paddle specific to your racing You get fitter which means you can paddle faster for longer Pretty simple stuff right. Now I'm sure there is people out that will argue that there is a lot more avenues to go down as well, and for sure I agree but these three are probably the lowest hanging fruit to grab first before you go any further.  So obviously technique is technique, you're either going to need a coach, partner filming you or be apart of a educated bunch that will help you along the way. At the end of the day technique is something you will continuously work on throughout your paddling journey. I would argue that you are constantly learning how to paddle, whether that be specifically to your new craft, your age, your fitness levels, your style of racing etc etc the learning process never ends.  Getting a faster board and paddle definitely helps, and its probably the easiest way to increase your performance. I mean going from a 10ft all rounder to a 14ft carbon race board has its immediate and obvious advantages. Getting fitter though is usually last on peoples list. Why you ask, we'll I'll give you 3 reasons: Its F#$king Hard Work  Its F#$king Hard Work  Oh did I forget to mention that its F#$king Hard Work  Haha sorry for the language but its true, getting fit isn't easy. Realistically tho many people start paddling to get fit, loose weight and be active which is fantastic and it absolutely works, however though if you want to get really fit and stack the deck in your favour then you need to do more then just paddle.  In this episode I talk about my secret weapon, the rower! I would happily be the first one to admit that I never liked the rower, until its use became more relevant in context to my performance goals. Throughout the episode I will get into the basics about rowing tech, setting it up e.g. drag factor and foot straps and also how I figure out my programming and interval sessions. I really feel like this episode has the goods ha. I am really loving the deep, lung crushing sessions I have been having on the rower and I already feel that I am improving on the water!  Until Next Wednesday Peace Out Brayden  Follow Us: Website: https://www.adrenalinrush.net.au Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AdrenalinRushoz Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AdrenalinRushSC Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/adrenalinrushoz Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adrenalinru...

EP29 - Kites Don't Drag People Up The Beach, People Drag People Up The Beach

When people think of kiteboarding some people in particular? (the un-educated or non-kiters) automatically think that if they tried to fly a big kite that they would get dragged up the beach. Now we all know thats not the case.  In this episode I discuss a principle that I tell all my students as they come through our kiteboarding school. This principle is:  "Kites don't drag people up the beach, People drag people up the beach" So what do I mean by this? Well we all know that kites don't fly without human input or control, period. So it would be all fare and reasonable to say that who ever is in control of the kite that is dragging someone up the beach is at fault.  Throughout this short thought piece I discuss the potential reasons why a kite might drag someone up the beach and how we can avoid these unfavourable  situations.  Thanks for team! Kind Regards Brayden  Follow Us: Website: https://www.adrenalinrush.net.au Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AdrenalinRushoz Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AdrenalinRushSC Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/adrenalinrushoz Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adrenalinru...

EP28 - How To Become a Faster Paddler (Part 2) - Its All In The Feet!

Before I got into SUP and training I really had no idea about the importance of foot work and the critical role it plays in your ability to become a faster paddler.  In this episode I highlight the importances of working on your foot work and how we can  implement technique drills into our sessions to improve our ability to move up and down the board with grace and swagger.  The key areas that will dramatically improve with great foot work are: 1. Turns including: Step Back, Pivot and Rail Turns  2. Downwinding and the ability to surf bumps 3. Reducing numbness and improving blood circulation in the feet 4. Overall confidence and SUP competency    So how do we improve our footwork? Well you need to listen to the podcast to find out! But obviously the answer is through specific and dedicated practice of these skills. Yep thats right no short cuts here ha. Thanks again guys its been real!
